If it is the 215 ci all alloy Buick V8 then you can get MG badged rocker covers and twin SUs for it!, it is the exact same engine that became the Rover 3.5 litre V8 and powers most range rovers and the MGB GTV8 hence Moss will sell you some rocker covers with MG cast in them that will bolt striaght on the engine. Although 200BHP stock is proabbly Gross rating, not the modern DIN, probbly more like 150 if you want to use the modern ratings. Even the Twin Plemumn SD1 Rover Vitesse only had 220BHP DIN!... MORE
Listers - The enigine/trans is a 1963 all aluminum Buick V8, 215 ci. (I'm told the 4barrel carbed ones are high compression, something like 11 to 1 and are good for a stock 200hp) The trans is a Borg-Warner T-50, aluminum 5 speed, I think it's from a late 70's Chevy V8 Monza. The added frame rails are 2" square steel tube, not sure I needed that much added to the sides of the original frame rails (probably could have used a 1" x 2" on it's side) but boy did it ever stiffen up after they were installed.... If you do it this way, you can easily use the FIND function of Word to search the document for, say "ignition" or "compression," Assuming you paste every useable e-mail into the same document. Or, you could start a new document for each topic/ thread, then have a more defined filing system. Well, Dave.... The biggest/best change you can make is to bring up the compression ratio next time you have the head off, unless you're taking it apart for piston/ring replacement. Taking the head from 21cc down to 19cc should be good for just under 8.5-1 and were you to go to 8.8-1 pistons next time around, the combo would be good for between 9.0-9.3-1 or so. You could take the head down to 16.4cc but now you're down to min. thickness for the head (strength, cooling, head-gasket issues, etc.). Besides mechanical stuff, better breathing will help. I would suggest priming the pump through the pressure relief valve fitting. Doing so accomplishes two things at once - pump priming and checking that the valve isn't stuck. I concur with the rest of the suggested actions. "Jim" 36410... MORE
Jens, I agree with all the above and I might add that if it was running ok with oil pressure and no rattling sounds when put sleep, it should be ok now. The first thing I would do is to make sure if there is pressure or not. I would pull the plugs and add a little squirt of oil to allow the engine to turn over faster, pull coil wire and crank engine for at least 20 to 40 seconds. If no press, pull open an oil line, or pressure valve cap, and crank to see if oil... MORE

stewart you are correct to use 35 amp fuse.i am nearly sure the fuse in question protects indicators,fuel gauge and heater blower and operates when ignition switch is on.i had a similar problem on my 1977 1500 midget and found the problem was caused by worn wires on the indicator stalk shorting. to rectify,unscrew four screws that secure the cowls to the steering column remove lower cowl then move upper cowl in anti-clockwise direction round steering column,depress horn slip-ring contact and ease the cowl off the column.remove clip holding the switch wiring harness to the steering column and disconect... See what works when the fuse is new and then what doesn't work after the fuse blows. Check those items. 35 amps is a lot. Some things draw a lot, like the head lights, the horn and others draw little like running lights, radio, wiper motor, etc. you could get a used amp meter at a surplus store (might cost 5 to 10 dollars) that reads about 10 amps full scale and run each item though it and measure how much it draws. G'day Do you have a roll bar in your Midget? If you don't, then don't even think about fitting the harness. If you are unfortunate enough to roll the car, the harness will hold you so tightly in place that, after the windscreen breaks off, your head will be the next thing to hit the ground. avagoodday Colin "Colin Dodds" 36233... Sure you can use a generic fuel pump. All the car parts stores sell them for about $30. I wouldn't use nylon fuel lines. What reason could there ne not to use metal ones? As far as using the cam from your 1098 - why? It's probably worn some, so why not just go for a new one, say a Kent 256 or 266. You'll get improved performance, and they aren't very expensive. I recognize this is one of those thological deputes that have been debated for years, like wht fluid shouold I use in my dashpots, 20 weight or atf. The fact is that my engine is still within the tolerences specified in the haynes manual. That is it is only .001 larger than stock. This being teh case there is a slight ridge at athe top that needed to be taken off to safely remove the pistons. Has anyone tried the modifications listed in the bl st manual? I mean adding twin hs4 SU carbs, a race distributor (part number C-27H7766), a head with 9.5:1 compression, and a free flow exhaust? If it's a standard A+ head, the valves are 1.3" Inlet/1.15" Exhaust; or if it's from an MG Metro it should have had 1.4" inlets. With no other changes, your AAC needles should be somewhere close, or you could try ACE ones (a bit richer in the mid range but leaner at the top end), but in any event, a trip to the rolling road is well worthwhile to get the car set up. Big? How big? The Cooper S had 1.4 intake and 1.2 exhaust valves (1.3 and 1.15 are considered stock for "A" series engines) and it was very steetable with standard rockers and the correct jetted carbs. What you gained was topend grunt without losing much in the lower rev range. "Jim" 36001... MORE
ok I have an american market 1971 mg midget. I just ordered a big valve no lead head from an a+ engine as a replacement/upgrade for my tired old lead head. I'm so proud of myself...I'm sitting here patting myself on the head because I can't reach my back. After nearly a year of my poor little car sitting on jack stands with the front end in the air, I finished the assembly of the front end with poly bushings, new lever shocks and springs. I had to replace one "A" arm due to wear from the folcrum pin...if you don't do any other maintenance on your car, make sure you lube the front end regularly!!!
