Well folks... As of tonight, the B-GT (67) is nearly ready for the first road test. I need to get a tire tube replaced and check the differential fluid before I drop it onto the ground and try for a short drive. The new parts I needed to order were... Clutch slave cylinder Clutch Slave Hose (2) Break Hoses Misc Spare nuts and bolts Gas Tank Repair stuff Trans Mounts (rubber) Engine Mounts New Clutch system (disk, plate and through-out) Tire Tube Thermostate gasket (not installed yet - extra) Falve Cover gasket A few extra rubber pieces. Actually . . . no . . . but blowing it out cleared up the obstruction and I have had this occur on another Midget. It's hard to blow on a small pipes on a float chamber lid as hard as you can and look for a small flak flying through the air Bob. I was seeing little white stars instead :-) Don "Don May" 23901... The phone rang at 7:30 am Sunday morning "I'm stranded in Angles Camp, Jr. died," Jr. the name he gave the 63 Midget I sold him. "I just need a around town car." He said when he bought it. He had owned a Midget before and I was confidant I was not selling to an innocent in the ways of classic British cars. I had made clear that since I retrieved it from a carpentry work shop where it sat on blocks for twenty years and brought it back to life that I had not driven it over five... MORE
Driving is driving, music is music . . . I do not like to mix experiences or my attention. Driving is a love affair between human, machine, and the road. I have a wonderful audio system at home and a recliner chair to sit in while I listen to it. Personally I do not like to talk while driving any more than I would in a movie. Goodness folks! We are driving a "English sports car" not a concert hall on wheels. :-) But . . . to each his own, don't want to become a politically correct fascist... MORE

Hi All Let me start by saying thank you all for the help I have gotten so far on the list. My problem now is. I am haveing trouble getting the switch out so I can clean and or replace it. I replaced the column switch and that gave me all but head lights. Is there any tricks /easy ways to get it out. Not very much roo to work behind the dash. This is a 1979 midget. Bob, A little while back I installed a pair of rear 5" speakers in the narrow space between the door pillar and the rear wheel arch. They fit really neatly and are only a few inches behind my head when driving. Out of town, there is no problem as I am not too bothered about the sheep listening to my choice of music. 'Cept when I wind up the throttle a bit I cannot hear anyway! I know what you mean about cutting out the ambient sounds with an earpiece. This is sort of why I thought maybe just... MORE
Dummy Me!! :) The vented/filtered oil filler cap is also a "restrictor" in the manifold mounted PCV valve, Jim!! Sorry for my error! :) Cap'n. Bob '60 :{) PilotRob@... 23808... MORE
Jim.... "Thanks", yourself!! :):) You either don't have a maint. manual or are not reading it, I guess. Well, no matter. :) You cannot check effective operation of the manifold mounted PCV valve by taking it apart. It is tested on a running engine at idle... if it is working correctly, the idle will increase by around 200rpm when you remove the "vented/filtered" oil cap (which you are using in accordance with your manual, right?:) For with respect to the manifold mounted stock PCV valve....there are no other restrictors in this system...IT is THE restrictor! It is also diaphragm... MORE
yes...as the 'ol tyme' ear phone are usually 8 ohms or more. (same as any common speaker) better yet.... drop a set of Miata seats in. twin speakers in the head rests makes it sound like headphones... butr you can still here the road... the you're not blasting the radio at all. gztracker: How about using a stock PCV valve as shown in the manual? Or, is this part no longer available? Cap'n. Bob '60 :{) PilotRob@... 23791... MORE
Can anyone give me the description of the restrictors that I think should be in the tube from the timing case to the PCV valve. I have just rebuilt my '68 1275 engine and it is sucking enough oil through the oil seperator to go through the engine. I tried a 1/8" restrictor and had much oil out the rear seal(screw). I then put a 5/16" inch restrictor closer to the PVC valve and it seems to do much better. I have found no information other than a reference to tube and restrictor in the Hayes manual. Thanks Jim... "I might pick up a pair and use them for a while...." Sounds like a reasonable way to evaluate, Trevor. My BE came with the Wheelrite kit (original shocks changed to softer Gas-Adjust GR2's) but had it come with the original levers, the car would be using Pete's shocks today. Everybody who has got them raves about their superiority over those originally supplied and all these people simply cannot be wrong. Peter can also supply them with various valves as well to tailor their stiffness. Cap'n. Bob '60 :{) PilotRob@... 23775... MORE
Michael, The old bounce test is a pretty reliable indicator of shock function. Push the nose of the car down several times and if it rebounds more than one and a half times shocks probably need attention. Topping off the fronts is fairly straight forward. Remove the valve and add. I switched to tube front shocks as mine originals were shot and didn't respond to additional fluid. I/m very satisfied with the new set up. Set me back about $300 from Winners Circle in Cleveland. To my embarrassment I have never touched the rear shocks. They seem to be... MORE
Easiest way I found was to centre punch the break bolt, drill the end with a suitable size drill and use a stud removal tool. It is rather like a threading tap, except that it has a VERY course and shallow left hand helix running down it which causes it to pull into and tighten into the drilled hole, where it lock and then carry on unscrewing until the bolt is out. It only took me about 7minutes to remove all the screws. R. "Roger Stinson" 23607... MORE
After stripping off the front end outer metal work and cleaning the engine compartment I discovered there is a crack in the transmission bell housing. The tab like area at the top of the clutch bell housing where the top two bolts are located has a horizontal crack below them.. It does not appear to be a major structural problem once the transmission bell housing is bolted on as all other areas and bolts are sound. It looks like an easy in place weld job. Is it possible to weld the aluminum housing material? Some PO strangeness as usual... MORE
to stop it engaging, you'll have to get the lock off the column - not an easy job - I've had to do it on 3 different cars :-( The easiest way is to get the column off the car completely and drill out the break-head bolts, though it's sometimes possible to use a sharp small centre-punch and unscrew the bolts by hitting the punch in the correct place. Once you've got the lock off, you can either mount it elsewhere so it doesn't engage with the column, weld a small plate over the slot in the column so... MORE
the glass is replaced by removing and disassembling the screen frame (which presumably you'll be doing anyway, if you replace one of the posts) The setscrews holding it to the body are up under the corners of the dashboard. There are three or four phillips head screws at each corner plus the centre stay, holding the frame together. You might find you need to drill out the screws but you can get stainless steel replacements. Try and make a note of which length screws come out of which holes - a problem for the unwary is to put too... MORE
Kelly, don't take Ed too seriously, he is just a 'miserable sarcastic old git' but he does know a bit about cars. Although he is a bit difficult to follow at times, just take the good bits and forget the rest, and don't forget, it might just be a safety valve for him - he might just have had a bad day. Life is too short to get wound up over trivialities. It just doesn't lead anywhere. ps Hope your car is nearing completion and being back on the road. R. "Roger Stinson" 23561... MORE

Just make a tow bar. It is simple and cost next to nothing. First a piece of 1" angle iron cut to about 3.5'. then drill two holes in it at the distance part that the front bumper studs are. Also hole must be big enought for the bumper studs to fit through. Then get a 4" "U" chanel about 4' long and weld them together to make a "T". Add acouple to small straps from the ends of the angle to the "u" neer the far end. Then drill holes in the far end of the "U" chanel... MORE
