I am having problems with clutch not disngaging on my 1275 midget. T save cylinder dumped allm of its fluid. I have replaced cylinder and it is wirking correctly however clutch is still not disengaging completely and I am unable to get any gearsw when engine is running. Have changed slave cylinder for smaller bore 1098cc one to get more throw on cluthch lever to no avail. Car is running a five speed sierra box with roller release bearing but this seems o.k. Any suggestions as to why clutch still won't disengage properly before Iresort to removing engine and... MORE

Colin... Hah!! It can't even produce one hp per cubic inch and in any case, would upset the fore/aft balance of the BE in terms of understeer. Of course, I could compensate to some extent with a heavier rear bar. And Peter C. could supply firmer valves for lever shocks as well. Or I could simply go with firmer KYB tubes. Then I'd have to fabricate a hitch to tow the fuel tank around..not too difficult. And I'd definitely have to give up the 3.7 for the original 4.22 for decent acceleration. Ya' know, this might be doable....I must... MORE
Can anyone help me I am restoring a Mk1 Sprite which is currently sprayed white, however I am finding a lot of red underneath the white especially in hard to spray areas. What I want to know is where can I find out what the cars original colour. ie was it white originally or is the red due to the fact that someone has reshelled the car some where along the way. Thank you in advance. "kdb550" 24993... MORE
Works Sprites competed at the Nassau Speed Weeks so they've definitely been there - in the1964 International Nassau Trophy, Clive Baker finished 15th behind such luminaries as Roger Penske, Bruce McClaren, Phil Hill etc and was only beaten by various exotica like Ferraris, McClaren, Chaparral. He was only 2 seconds behind a 250GTO at the end of the 400 odd Km race!) but I dunno if there's any there now. None of the people on our members list are down as located there. That is fantastic news. Enjoy!! It must be great to be back at the wheel after so long. It will be even better when all the rest of the problems are sorted and you can put the whole incident behind you. Nothing quite like the purr of the 'A' series lump at a nice cruising speed, or working up through the gears! R "Roger Stinson" 24972... MORE

..hey group,..my 62 has a tendency to rub its drivers side front wheel against the inner frame when i make tight turns..but not when i make a tight opposite turn..do you think its a tie rod that needs ajustment?..or.....? its odd,... it did not do it before but now recently it has started. thanks for your help in advance! samuel "modernlmi2000" 24940... ...might be on subject...but not 'specific' to the conversation.... I've been studying (extensively) the various emissions re-breather systems used on the various years and models of LBC's. Why? Trying to come up with a system that won't dump oil all over the back of the intake valves. Any of you that have ever pulled a head off an engine that has had a bit of blow-by due to worn rings, knows what I mean. The vapors (due to crankcase pressure) being discussed here, dump all that oil into the intake and end up burning onto, and crudding up the... MORE
OK, Claire...let's work the problem a bit. You keep talking of a vapor/oil seperator. Where exactly is this part located on your engine, if not on the timing chain cover. I ask specifically because the year of the car may not be the year of the engine, Claire. Fr'instance, a late 10cc engine (1098) would have the vapor/oil separtor cannster located on one of the valve lifter side covers under the intake manifold instead of attached to the timing chain cover like the later 1275 engines. Factory stock PCV valve: The "appearance" of the rubber diaphragm can be decieving.... MORE

Chris... A shame but...understandable in accordance with your previous posts on the subject. ....from what I saw of it, this guy got an awfully nice car. As you say...at least it went to someone who appreciates it, not only for what it is but most likely, for it's historical significance in terms of a great, but bygone, time in history. I am fortunate to have grown up in the era which produced these great cars, others of their ilk, Rock 'n' Roll, Drive-Ins and I think, a generally better quality of life all-around together with "real" high-octane gasoline (at... Yes, he handled the situation very well. I love the "I did not lead my life to become governor." or close to that. Has there never been a time in the history of this country when it was democratic? Not really. Any attempts to make it so have historically been brutally crushed by those in power. Politics is a game of power and maintaining power through the use of laws to protect those in power. The same with any political "ism" Sorry Bob, Don't count on Arnold . . . George Shultz is already beside him to see that he behaves in the interests of the true power holders. Don You gotta understand...politics today as practiced by professional politicians has nothing to... MORE
I've just recently bought an 1967 Austin Healey Sprite that was in need of some TLC, however I've also since found out it's got a few parts 'missing'! One of those was the flame trap that connects through flexible hoses the block to the inlet manifold (it doesn't have the 'Y' connector). Since fitting the missing part it now won't run properly. It has started to kick out loads of white smoke & a little bit of blue. We've compression tested the engine, fitted a new head gasket & set up the carbs so they are fine. We've now... MORE
Ah, hah.... I see, Jason. Well, as Amy is fond of saying, just because a part is new, doesn't mean it's "good" or will give the expected service life. You didn't say anything about the cooling system temperature so I shall ass-u-me it remains "unchanged". I'd go through the steps of a major tune-up starting with compression and leak down checks. I know it's a PITA when you just got it done a couple of months ago but the problem is bound to make itself known as you go through logical steps. Coils underperforming can be a bear to... MORE
I did a major tune up this spring. Everything is new. She ran fine the other day so this is a new thing in the last 5 days. "Jason Gross" 24759... MORE
Hi, "Cheers"... Let's get our parts straight, first. I am a little confused by your terms and the way they are used. The PCV system on the '67 is very simple. It consists of a factory diaphragm type PC V valve mounted on (in) the inlet manifold, which is fed via a flexible hose from the vapor/oil separator (aka "flame arrestor) mounted on the timing chain cover on the front of the engine. It is a "graduated orifice" (diameter of hole specific to the application). It is an "outlet". The "inlet" consists of a graduated orifice embedded within the... MORE
Jason... Sounds like the problem is on the "other side" (electrical) of the engine, assuming compression and leak down figures do not indicate mechanical problems. When was the last time you replaced wires, dist. cap, plugs, points, condenser and/or coil? Actually, best to do a major tune-up in which case you'll most likely come across and/or solve the problem, in any event? Cap'n. Bob '60 :{) PilotRob@... 24756... MORE
Hello all, I just took my 77 through emissions testing and it came up short. It passed the Hydro Carbon & Carbon Monoxide tests with ease but was just over the Nitrus Oxides limit. The car is missing it's EGR system. Are there any tweaks to the carburation/timing that might improve it's chances? Thanks! Kevin Milwaukee, WI "kari_kevin" 24719... MORE
Hello all, I just tried to get my 77 though emissions and came up short. It passed the Carbon Monoxide & Hydrocarbon portion with flying colors but was just over the limits for Nitrus Oxides. My car is missing the EGR system & I know that would help. Short of replacing the missing valve, etc. are there any "tweaks" to the carburation/timing that could help it pass? Thanks! Hello to All I finally got some time to work on the MG switch. Following the ideas/instructions from previous posts, I got the electrical plug out of the ignition switch. The metal portion of the switch assembly that wraps around the steering column now seems to work OK. At least I can remove the key. I then took the electrical plug apart. There are a couple of copper contacts, springs and steel balls. My questions is this, is the spring built into the metal switch assembly or the plastic electrical plug that fits into the switch assembly? I did... MORE
Dave.... Same principle as A series or any other head. Larger intake valves improve breathing in terms of "mass flow" at the expense of "velocity" in terms of low end torque. Like everything else, it's a compromise situation, as in upgrading cam. You give up a little at the bottom or a little more in the middle and top. Cap'n. Bob '60 :{) PilotRob@... 24667... MORE
Jeeze! What a day, eh?! :( First you lose the water you need, than you get a load of it in the wrong places.... this does bite the big one. It's a matter of wait and see, Brad. The damage (if any) often does not show up immediately, but downline a couple of thousand miles or so. You can get a head start on this though, by taking a compression and leak-down ASAP and noting the figures...save 'em. Take another "set" a thousand miles or so down the road and compare. If they are basically the same, you most... MORE
Greetings, As fall draws closer, I have started to think about starting the body work on my Midget. I'm leaning toward using a chemical stripper (this is an assembled daily driver). I will be doing one section at a time. My plan was to strip the finish to metal. Apply etching primer and a sealing primer. Then later in the winter (after the entire car finish has been stripped) start on the body work. Here is my question: Has anyone had any experiences with enviro friendly paint stripper like: http://www.eastwoodco.com/itemdy01.asp?T1=10410&Dep_Key1=Paint (Eastwood DeKote stripper) Thanks in advance for any feedback...
