Hey, Nick.... If you have positive ground, you can install a regular stereo. The only thing is, all the songs will play backward!! ;-) Seriously - I wouldn't want to listen to anything other than the engine!! That's why I got my 68 Midget! I can listen to stereo at home.... Well.... haven't tried this myself but no reason why it shouldn't work as advertised. I don't know whether the "competition" or mechanical race distributor curve is still available but certainly, the "40819" Cooper S curved mechanical dizzy should be right at home in this environment I would think. Emissions laws vary from state to state here in the US. In CT, they don't check under the hood unless a car doesn't pass. Hi all, I want to raise the midget of the ground on axle stands and remove the doors and rear wings. I have removed the interior so i can brace it with a piece of 4 x 2 but was wondering if anyone had a better way. I dont want the car to collapse in the middle once i start taking it apart. I have visions of the hole car sagging and the doors not going back on etc. My idea is to get a piece of 4x2 and a sissor jack, place the 4x2 in the middle of... MORE
Has anyone tried the modifications listed in the bl st manual? I mean adding twin hs4 SU carbs, a race distributor (part number C-27H7766), a head with 9.5:1 compression, and a free flow exhaust? Yup, Jim, lay on your back and look up at the timing cover - that's where the indicator is. It can be done by one person if you keep the distributor clamp snug and move it in very small increments. You may find that the mark "floats" all over the place (commonly known as "timing scatter" in an engine with some miles on it). Just pick the mid point of the scatter for your timing point. My cousin Donald in Irving is having a problem with his 1997 Ford F150 pick 'em up truck. It's a V-6 and after driving about 15 minutes, his #3 cylinder starts to miss. He's changed plugs, wires, and now was attempting to change the coil. On these trucks the coil and dist. cap are made in one unit apparently? Anyway, he got a replacement coil and enstalled it and no joy, the truck would not even start. Put the old one back on, it runs but misses after 15 minutes. He went back to the auto supply and got... G'day Tom The LHD and RHD Bugeye body shells are identical. All you need to convert your car are: a.. RHD steering rack b.. Hello all: This Question is about my '68 Sprite "Rosa" - 1275cc Is it possible that the timing chain jumps a teeth on any of the sprockets when it gets worn? I have my engine out of the car for an unrelated issue (replaced the starter ring gear =96 different story) and noticed that the notch in the crankshaft pulley is about 15 deg past the TDC mark when the nr. 1 piston is at TDC. Sure a cold box is worth fitting, Jens. Not a new car out there that hasn't got one. Jacques LaClainche's website shows his BE with a cold air box. Looks like a sealed "mailbox" with holes cut in the appropriate place for the carbs and a "heater" hose ducted to the front by the grille (but on the carb. side). Very practical, very functional. Hi Spence, It is the worst part. The engine is sweet and the interior has been well looked after. The front wings are new ones. It came with a van load of spares inc 6 wire wheels hub and 3.91 diff. New door and bonnet. I paid =A3300 for the lot so i am very happy with it. I am keeping the rostyles on it and selling the wire wheels and bits that go with it. Nology Hotwires.... exactly, Spencer...without 3rd party empirical data, I don't tend to "believe" either. if Vizard hadn't tested them, I wouldn't have spent the bucks....they're not inexpensive. But they do last a long, long time. They are very well built and I can tell you from experience they will burn off oil on spark plug tips, even in engines burning a quart every in <500 miles. You'll still get crusty brown carbon deposits that will eventually fill the gap and "short", but you won't be getting wet oil fouling at all, assuming compression is reasonably decent. Resistance is a matter of extent. Some is good ("sparkier" spark :)...too much is no good. Remember the old Lucas resistor "caps" fitted to the spark plug end of their stock wire set-up?? RBH, Did I mention that I put an electronic ignition on the car? The 1500's ran an optical distributor stock so I replaced the resistor etc with an aftermarket ignition. I think it's a Crane but it was done 5 yrs ago (early in the rejuvenation) and I forget. I should be up against some form of plug gap problem from what I'm reading (hearing?).
