Let's see...it's been a week or so since Drew picked up Rick's '73 Midget in Vegas and drove it to the Seattle area. He took four days and his girl friend...she must have a great deal of faith in him to attempt such an adventure. Adam Do you mean the threads on the master cylinder or the threads on the brass connector. The threads on the connector actually looked like they weren't in great condition, but it never leaked there before, so I just screwed them back in. Greetings: I have a 1960 Bugeye Sprite which I recently purchased and am going through to make sure everything's up to snuff. Of note is that it has wire knockoff wheels. I took off the rear tires and brake drum to find that oil had leaked into the drums, contaminating the shoes and necessitating their replacement. While the hub has been off, I went ahead and replaced the bearing and I'm just about to the point of buttoning everything back up. I got a new o-ring and paper gasket for the hub as well. I would like to relocate the windshield wiper motor on my 73 midget. It's on the left inner fender right now. I notice from pictures on Ed's web site that BE wiper motors are up next to the pedal box. Can I use a different cable and re-locate my motor? Anyone tried this? stewart you are correct to use 35 amp fuse.i am nearly sure the fuse in question protects indicators,fuel gauge and heater blower and operates when ignition switch is on.i had a similar problem on my 1977 1500 midget and found the problem was caused by worn wires on the indicator stalk shorting. to rectify,unscrew four screws that secure the cowls to the steering column remove lower cowl then move upper cowl in anti-clockwise direction round steering column,depress horn slip-ring contact and ease the cowl off the column.remove clip holding the switch wiring harness to the steering column and disconect... Stewart, if it's the same as late 1275 ones, then the front fuse protects the stuff that's not controlled by the ignition switch i.e. is live all the time - horns, interior and boot lamps, cigar lighter. It should be rated at 17 amps continuous, 35 amp blow. Both horns and courtesy lamps have permanently live feeds (purple wire) with the earth side being switched, so a purple wire is a good start for finding the likely culprit. A fault from 16 years ago is back to haunt me.. The car is a 1975 MG midget 1500 RHD. The bottom fuse of the 4 keep on blowing, although not always immediately. By the bottom one I mean the one closest to the front of the car, I suppose I should ask what rating it should be, but as it has a 35 amp fuse in I doubt its going to be much higher!. See what works when the fuse is new and then what doesn't work after the fuse blows. Check those items. 35 amps is a lot. Some things draw a lot, like the head lights, the horn and others draw little like running lights, radio, wiper motor, etc. you could get a used amp meter at a surplus store (might cost 5 to 10 dollars) that reads about 10 amps full scale and run each item though it and measure how much it draws. Add them up and see how close to 35 you are. Safety margin should be 20... MORE
G'day Do you have a roll bar in your Midget? If you don't, then don't even think about fitting the harness. I just got a sabelt three point racing harness at a british swap meet with the intention of fitting it to the stock seat belt mounting points on my 1971 mg midget. I got home and noticed a small problem. The belt that extends behind the seat to the rear point is too long. Is it at all reccomended to alter the length of a seat belt in such a way that it requires sewing? Would such alterations still be safe? "gan5ub91179g" 36225... MORE

Brad, Good detective work, but you could have just switched to left handed fuses and that would have solved the problem. All the fuses from the UK are right handed fuses, and sometimes, in the US market cars, you must use left handed fuses. Cheers, Bob in San Diego "Robert D. Gardner" 36209... MORE

Nick, I'd like to chip in if I may. I did the conversion on a Neg. ground car ('75 Midget) and took the overloading of the wires advice to heart based on LBC and other experts testimony. I chose a 62 amp GM alternator that was original to pickups mostly from '63-80. It fit and I don't worry about overloading the wiring. It gives nearly twice the amps of the OEM Lucas which should handle anything a reasonable car nut could want. 145sr13 tires were origonal, however this measuring system is no longer used. the orgonal aspect ratio was approximatly 82%. This means that the side walls were 82% as tall as the treads were wide. 145/80/13 tires are a good approximation, and will lower the ride hight a little and have the origonal tread width but can be hard to come by in america (not a problem in england longstone tyres is a good source). I have one origonal speaker and an origonal radio installed in the radio console under the dash in front of the gearshift. I can hear it over the engine just fine, but my knee kept hitting the volume knob so that now the rado functons but I have to jiggle the knob to get it working. I just installed two more speakers in holes placed in the masonite bulkhead behind the seats (the one that forms a barrier between the trunk and the cabin) that were cut before I owned it. Hello, I own a 1967 midget and am thinking about installing a sound system. I have read that to do this i would have to change the polarity of the car (or insulate the system- but thats a fire hazard I understand).
