Hi James, welcome to the group. Do you have any pics of the car you'd like to post? The extra hood fastener was a factory-fit item but only for a short time at the beginning of production of that style of hood. Some people find it keeps the hood in better shape than just the velcro, and you can easily get the extra body stud if you end up getting that type of hood. Regards David "David Jacobs" 30624... MORE
Bill, A couple of points that may help: The "E" -clip goes on with the open gap towards the bleed screw. There is a very slight groove between the axle casing and the back plate that allows the edge of the clip to fit the space between the wheel cylinder and the axle casing. There are various techniques. I have found that if you can get the edges of the 3 lugs just against the edge of the wheel cylinder casting and then put a large socket against and give it a "light tap with a heavy hammer" it... Mark, Mine wasn't a new pump, at least it was about 5 years old. I found out by swapping parts out., after I had checked all of the carb settings etc. When I changed the pump the problem was cured. Since the old pump still seemed to push fuel through I got inquisitive and dismantled it to see how it worked, Sure enough, there was a short tear in the diaphragm. gave it new plugs wires, cap & rotor, new fuel pump about six months ago and fuel filter one month ago. Guess there is a lot of areas to rule in & out. Thanks for the input. Loopy Chris says .Not quite sure if I can get the ariel lead underneath the car as I think( could be totally wrong though and I've got the wrong end of the stick!) to be legal in this country, it has to be a certain distance ( im talking a fair space here , not a couple of inches) from any fuel tank or line , in case it causes a spark or something. Mark... Running rough can mean anything, so not really enough to go on. Usually an engine which runs "rough" under load is either overadvanced in terms of ignition or suffering from an ignition system which requires attention in that the spark is breaking down under load. This could be a bad coil, wires, cap or any other individual component not quite up to snuff. It could also be a combination of worn items, as well. Lastly, there is the fuel supply. Float levels set too low, inadequate pressure (old or bad pump) or inadequate supply (clogged filter, line or... MORE
Does the truck have an electric fuel pump? You could try disconnecting the fuel line after the pump and emptying the tank that way. Be careful if it's got fuel injection - the pumps run at quite a high pressure compared to 'our' cars. Alternatively, you could syphon it out. Regards David "David Jacobs" 30553... MORE
Chris, I don't know what a Din is but if you take the size of your radio opening to the store with you just ask for a radio/cd player that will fit. I am sure any store will open the package and show you the paper template to see if it will fit. Usually there is a bezel of some sort that allows the same radio to fit many size openings. Make sure to measure how much distance you have to the rear of the radio also, not just the front opening. Actually, several interesting options. Most radio/CD combo... MORE
Ssssssshhhhhhh Toyman you cantankerous old git! lol Actually I know they wern't OE in this country, but they were surprisingly OE for the North American market. It was more a flippant comment than a serious one, I would love a set of chrome wires, but not willing to shell out the serious money needed to get them! Rick, Some of the later 1500s had some sort of "safety device" anchor strap which connects the lump to the car so that in the event of an acciident they stay together. Maybe your braded cable is that. If not, then it is an earth strap Oh, and despite what Nigel says, the 1500 engine is perfectly good if it is put together properly and treated right. Rick Grats on your new acquisition, don't take any notice of some of the list 'snobs' there's nothing at all wrong with a 1500 - they're great little cars (apart from the Triumph engine which is a dog) And good luck with it ....not saying any more on that ;) Braided cable - not sure - could be a ground, could be the handbrake cable? Pull cable is the bonnet release. The throttle pedal is available from Moss (well here it is - UK). Not sure what a dashpad is, do you mean the crash roll on top of... MORE
Rick, I know that they put 15" rims on the MGC and 14" rims on the MGB but I do not think 14" wires would fit on a midget with squared off rear wheel arches. With the right tyre profile and flares you might be able to pull this off. The hub is the same on all three dunlop wheels. Never know until you try it on ONE wheel and see. We fit 205/60/13 wheels with mags on a midget or sprite with round wheel arches with little to no problems all the time. Best of luck. Rex Urban... MORE
Listers - The friend I received my 75 Midget from has a set of wire wheels, if I remember I thought they were 14" wheels from a MGB, but no splined hubs, just the rims. My question is will 14" MGB wheels fit a Midget with the Midget Splines? Not sure if the would have the correct splines, hub bolt patterns and wheel offsets (I know B wheels are something like a 1/2" wider also), but a set of new low profile tires would give the correct outside diameter. Listers - (sounds like something you call people after a night on a booze cruise) I finally got my car home, created a folder in the photo section ("Ricks 75") and uploaded a photo... Figured out what caused the PO from finishing the restoration, he had snapped 2 bolts off while removing the passenger side front shock for some reason, soaking in WD40 for a couple of days and small amount of heat and the stubs came right out. Try running a Lotus Elite (the real one, 1200 FWE), multiply the problems of a spridget by about 2000 and your are still only halfway there!. regular piston meltdowns, Headgasket failure, an electrical system that is the worlds only true 'random event' generator.. err the list is endless, but for about 5 mins every decade it all works, this is not a good thing as it only does it to taunt you and force you into spending even more money.. who says cars don't have souls.. pity most of them are evil! Well I have too admit after much soul searching and observation I do like the new midget I bought. I am eating alittle bit of pride here when I say that it is better built than my beloved X -19. There Its out and I can move on now! I have since sold the X and I am concentrating on the MG only. What an amazing car. Alot of fun to work on and drive. I have 2 main mechanical issues I will need to fix before doing any real driving. (I have many other non-mechanical issues, some even just mental). 1. Brake pedal needs "pumped" to build up pressure. Once I pump it a few times I can hold it down and it stays firmly (doesn't go all the way to the floor no matter how hard I push). Before I pump it, it goes all the way to the floor. I have a 73, and a 74. They had only sat for about a year each, however I did have a 62 that the previous owner had run since 1987 and then only for a couple of months, almost 22 years total except for that short period . . . There are things you can count on fixing and replacing when they sit that long .
