Assuming that all is well, and your cap is really holding 7 psi, probably you're just overfilling your radiator, or, possibly, you're getting overheating and don't know that because your guage is faulty. A higher pressure car will not solve either problem. "joe blxfstz" 32776... MORE

Jens, After a complete re-build of my car, including new radiator and cap, I too was loosing water out of the overflow pipe for no apparent reason. The clue lies in the new cap. Although this was rated at the correct pressure (7 psi for early cars, 15 psi for later ones) it turned out to be a modern one with a neck that was too short, so was never seating properly! The easy way to check if yours is seating is to look at the bottom of the rubber seal to see if it has a circular indentation,... MORE

Air in the line will only give you a soft or spongy petal, not a loss of brakes. Loss of brakes would be caused by a leak, either a wheel cylinder or a brake switch, which would have fluid all over, or a master cylinder, which can have fluid all over or it might leak back into the reservoir, which you wouldn't see any fluid. You say that you rebuilt the master, but don't mention the wheel cylinders. Brake fluid eats rubber parts. I would suggest rebuilding, or at least inspecting the wheel cylinders. Check for leaks, and check... MORE

Hi all Looking for some advise. Have a '79 Stock Midget with dual line brake system. Have done work to it in the past year including: Rebuilt master, new rubber hoses all around, good linings, adjusted with nice firm pedal, NO leaks. Brakes seem fine then suddenly pedal goes to the floor with no brakes at all. This happened a few months back so I rebled the system and we have started to drive the car on a more regular basis now. Drove car about 100 mi before it happened. Pedal comes back up to normal with 1 or... MORE

I have a late model Midget, and haven't been able to locate a hot air hose (the hose that connects from under the manifold to the air temp control valve (refer to Haynes p 101, item #16). VB and Moss have them displayed, but not available for sale. Does anyone out there have one that they are willing to part with? Thanks, Pete "Pete Skalski" 32726... MORE

1. The shortly later models used a 3/4" dual master cylinder with disk brakes. Looks just like the Bugeye 7/8" but takes less pressure. 2. There is a mastercylinder cap? on ebay for the dual mastercylinder that is raised an holds more fluid than the flat cover??? 3. I'm not sure that they will let you race with a later mastercylinder/clutch cylinder system? I don't know, I'm "simi- stock". Bob, Troutdale, OR Capt'n Bob, Quite. "Robert Webb" 32710... MORE

Hi, Just ran my Bugeye in 4 Vintage races but fortunately blew a head gasket, cutting short my last race, because the master cylinder had suddenly lost about half its fluid in a few laps! Guess now is the time to upgrade to a dual circuit cylinder. What is the easiest route to do this? Any "how to" guides on the internet? There is a roll cage tube that goes quite close beside the "box" the master brake/clutch cylinder unit is in, so I don't have a lot of room for anything. Is there a later spridget dual brake/clutch... MORE

Decided to MOT the frogeye for one last summer before it gets the shell fully sorted. As it stands it needs a tyre, the horn fixing and the handbrake adjusting. Nothing really major. However the reason the handbrake needs adjusting is not because of wear in the system or a starched cable, but the bracket on the axle bends over time and needs knocking out with a hammer. This had to be done at the last MOT it had (1999). The bend occurs where the cable passes though the bracket, has anyone else had this problem and if so... MORE

The Purpose of Tools HAMMER: Originally employed as a weapon of war, the hammer nowadays is used as a kind of divining rod to locate expensive parts not far from the object we are trying to hit. MECHANIC'S KNIFE: Used to open and slice through the contents of cardboard cartons delivered to your front door; works particularly well on boxes containing leather goods. ELECTRIC HAND DRILL: Normally used for spinning steel Pop rivets in their holes until you die of old age. PLIERS: Used to round off bolt heads. HACKSAW: One of a family of cutting tools built on... What are the lengths of the two hoses that run between the oil cooler and the block/filter on a 73 Midget with a 1275? Moss Motors informed me yesterday that they sell these hoses as individual lengths only. I don't have a set to measure. Thanks for your help, Jim C 73 Midget 67 MGB "Jim Crowder" 32649... MORE

Jens... Whew!! Glad you found the problem and it's a "cheapo" fix. A new engine will give around 75psi cold and this will drop to about 65-70 @ 3,000 rpm when hot. Even this (when hot) is too high. Shorten the spring until you get the above figures for a start. Then purchase an "oil pressure regulator" and fit this instead, using the aforementioned spring. The regulator will not affect the idling oil pressure, just the max pressure. Set initially to 60 @ 3,000rpm "hot" then as the engine wears over time/miles, you can "dial up" the max, keeping... Capt'n Bob, You of all people let them go down the wrong path? The windshield does not "Push" the air any more than a fence pushes the wind. The air flows around or over the windscreen depending on the angle of the windscreen just like the water from rain hitting the windshield while you are driving. A slanted windscreen forces the air up into the air above it creating a higher pressure above and less pressure behind the windshield, like the leading edge of an airplane wing. With a top on, the air flows smoothly across the top, lifting... MORE

Jim we bought a 2nd hand hardtop for the MGF and it was fitted until last week . It now occupies our daughters bedroom !!! the garage and sheds are for midget and sprite stuff !!!! The midgets hardtop is hidden under some shrubs in the garden !!!! I was amazed at how much noise deadening and extra rearward visibility you get with a hardtop relative to a soft top. Having a cream coloured interior lining makes everything appear lighter and less claustrophobic than the black soft top. The MGF tends to do more miles commuting in winter when... MORE

Naturally, Mike.. That's why we have "caution" (yellow) and "warning" (red) lights in the cockpit. Yor're supposed to be worried..."worried" means you're a normal, reasonably intelligent human being who percieves there's a problem which needs attention. BTW, when was the last time you changed the oil filter? 'Cause if you don't find anything wrong with the "sender" for that light, this is something which I would pretty much do automatically as the next step, whether the filter was new or not. You just never know when you are going to get a "bum" part. And what weight oil are... MORE

Well, I thought I had a local buyer for my Sprite, but it seems to not have worked out. I thought I would check the list and see if I can get an opinion on what it might be worth. Itsa: 1969 Sprite(clear Texas title says 1964, but a typo must have occurred way back before I purchased it in New Mexico about 3 or 4 years ago) Number plate (beneath carbs) matches vin on title. You may recall: It's stuck in first gear. Crap!! Stuff I have done: Porsche 914 Seats Roll bar Tonneau cover adapted (lots of... MORE

My 79 just started this weird thing: when starting up, the red light comes on and stays on for approx. one minute. Revving the engine slightly makes it glow brighter. The altenator belt is adjusted properly, the connections all seem clean and tight, and it's a six month old Diehard, so I don't think it's the battery. Any of you good folks have any ideas? Is this harmful? It runs perfectly, lights, heater, wipers, all function normally, but it's never done this before... Thanks, George "chuibuddy" 32420... MORE

Hi Rob could you please pass on any information on fitting fibreglass front , rear and doors as i'am thinking of converting my 1968 mk 4 sprite . Regards Bob Hi Bob My first recomendation is dont! Unless you are a masochist with unlimited time buckets of money and infinite patience don't do it. Bob This may be rural Norfolk out in the fens but recently they have installed running water so I guess we could manage to wash your hair on site if need be, hence your excuse is not acceptable and we will expect you to attend in all three bugeyes, however the good news is that I will provide the beer. I am in the middle of changing the front suspension on the 68. I am catching my breath, and allowing the spring pans and disc brake backers to dry from being coated with fresh paint. Thank you to Peter for the new shocks, I will have the cores on their way to you this week. Btw, I was missing the bolt on the right shock that keeps the trunion bolt from turning, I hope this isn't a big issue. Just Ed, the parts are great, everything is going on fine!!! All the bolts coming threaded through the bushings, eliminated... MORE

Listers, I need to sell off some of my spare parts. I have several 948, 1098 and 1275 engine or partial engines to sell. One 1275 is a complete low mileage, clean and running engine. others are rebuildable cores, but pretty much everything I have is degreased and ready for whatever you'd like to use it for (table base?) I also have several MD 266 cams, mostly the narrow lobe variety for use in 948 or 1098 engines. I also have several used headers. all are the 3 into one type. I also have a complete rear clip from... Hi Cap'n and Jens, I guess I've got to be a lone noise in the wind here. I've always used Fram or Pennzoil filters for as long as I can remember. I've got a 1275 in my van that has almost 300,000 miles on it since a major rebuild. Did 105,000 mile on a quickie rebuild before that, on an engine that came out of a burned MG Midget wreck. Admittedly this engine is now pretty tired, but it still goes OK. I changed the oil and filter religiously at 5k miles, with nary a peep out of this... MORE

Hi Pete, Glad to know you are a satisfied with what I did for you. This is the only way to do it, (even if I didn't do it for you). There is no question that your MC is WAY better than even a new one. Joe tells me that many people send him BRAND NEW MC's to be sleeved. I can tell you from the many I have done that this is the only way to go. Also, as you found out by closer examination of what you had, amateurs trying to rebuild this particular MC do more... MORE
