Hi David- Couldn't access the pic at all. Thanks for your help. I am still trying to figure out the attachment problem on my car. When I started my restoration, I stripped the car down to bare metal. Found the right wing had a bit of repair. All other panels were perfect. Sought out a NOS wing in England and was lucky enough to find one (this was about 8 years ago). Bought it, bolted it on, and the fit was excellent. But for some reason, the wing does not have a hole drilled in the rain gutter for... MORE

Hi all- Am finishing a ten year restoration of a 1973 Midget (US model). Has a factory oil cooler. Have properly (I hope) fitted the lines. I have a support bracket for the lines that I know was on the car. I cannot figure out how the bracket attaches to the car. I know how the bracket attaches to the lines. HELP!!!!! Thanks.......Paul "dfwip" 27278... MORE

Jim... OK...you want to run "vented" instead of "closed loop" but wish to retain the charcoal cannister and use it as a catch can either in it's present position or possibly elsewhere in the engine compartment. Fine...but you MUST promise to read the last paragraph! :) I am strictly a layman in the post '67 emissions systems which were strapped to our engines as "add on" devici, providing for a "closed loop" system to ensure crankcase/fuel tank vapor evacuation into the combustion process. Ripped it out myself, and never used one. I took a look at it under the... MORE

My friends, Please excuse the NO LBC CONTENT. As many of you know, my son Alex in in Iraq. He is in an area north of Baghdad with the US Army's 4th Infantry Division. Last Sunday they were in a big ambush, firefight where 6 of their men were wounded and 46 enemy were killed. He is in a dangerous place and has 3 little kids at home who won't see their dad for Christmas. He won't be home until April. It would be a huge favor to his mom and I if, when you are sending Holiday cards... MORE

Duncan... First choice: pick up the later timing case cover and utilize the intended stock simple PCV system. It works very well. You see, the Series A motor has a scroll (oil thrower) affair back by the main bearing which depends upon tight metal (block) clearances for "oil tightness". The motor does not have a "regular" rear main oil seal, Duncan. Without the stock PCV system, these motors have a real tendency to leak oil out of this area, most especially as they build miles on the crankshaft. The stock PCV system will draw out crankcase PRESSURE along with... MORE

Hi, Duncan.... The "open" port on the normal stock intake manifold on the '67 is for the rubber diaphragm equipped PCV valve which is fed via a rubber hose from the "flame arrester" (can) fabricated into the timing chain cover at the front of the motor. The "intake air" for crankcase gases drawn out from the crankcase into the intake manifold via the PCV valve is the plastic "filtered" oil cap containing a "graduated orifice" (designed "hole" of a specific diameter. Eeg Thank you and I'm pleased to hear your new sill is going to stay on! And yes I've already sprayed the underneath in topcoat, it's all done, as well as the engine bay and inside. I'm just working on the outer panels now. Repair panels are notorious for poor fit, some suppliers of repair panels are better than others (yes Ashley Hinton, you're one of the good ones:) and pretty much all of them require some form of fettling to make them fit correctly. To be honest 2 or 3 mil really doesn't sound that much, are you... MORE

I just received my cert back from the British Heritage Trust and finally have a VIN. They ended up doing the search based on the body number. So, now it's time to order a VIN plate and stamp it with my new found identity. My question is, does anyone know of a way to get the VIN stamped correctly, from the back of the plate (raised #'s)? I've checked around and don't find any local machine shops with the reverse stamps. I supposed it's really not a must since my car isn't all original, but I thought it would... MORE

Congratulations!!!!!!!!!! Every day I drive to and from work I must pass the body shop where I see mine still sitting on a cart waiting its turn to be painted. Maybe by Christmas I'll get it back. I'm trying to get all the small stuff done before I get it back, ie reassemble the engine, transmission, paint all the small parts etc. If I don't then I am like you too much car and too little garage! Nelson... Well, "knock" is pretty well tied to compression ratios and timing along with octanes of course, but you already know this. You are looking at a cam with numbers similiar to a Kent #276. The lift numbers may be the other way around but this is a minor point (usually a bit more lift for exhaust rather than inlet, when cam is assymetric, 'cause exhaust valve is smaller I guess?). This is a very fast road cam, similiar to what an APT VP3 or Kent #286 would be for a 1275, more or less. Minimum compression ratio for... MORE

Well, I just couldn't stand no being in debt. I had come into a small (and I mean small) amount of cash recently due to the sell of a piece of property in a ghetto. I spent a weekend recently at Elizabeth and Fisher Jones place in the hill country of Texas (take your hat off when you say that). I was there to persue Bambi and his kin with my cousin and grandson. We took a nice buck, but that's another story. Those of you who have had the pleasure of seeing the Jones' place will agree (unless... MORE

Yes, those are the ones. Its one of those situations where it is so easy to do and rather more difficult to explain. Having tried to explain it all I have discovered what you might find a very useful text at http://www.mgcars.org,uk/midgespriteclub/sprite/spritefrontsusp.htm It is on the midgesprite club website, in the tech tips section. Even having rebuilt front suspensions a few times for different people, it contains some useful reminders. R. "Roger Stinson" 27056... MORE

Hi guys Thought I'd update you all once again on how the restoration is going. I've taken a few more pics that can be seen on the Yahoo Group Webpage in the Nigel-71-Midget Folder. Basically the rear axle is back on the car with the rear springs and backplates, brakes and hubs all reassembled. I've also nearly completed the left hand side (RHD Drive) front suspension. Putting the front and rear suspension components back on before all the spraying is finished is a bit out of sequence, but due to the restriction on space within my garage, I now... MORE

All offers will be considered. The car is pictured here but is now in running condition. I will post the new photo under SAVEDBLACK79MG. I have a rip free covertable top on it, and good black paint on it. The engine and transmission work good, I need to adjust the engine to run at normal speed. The brakes work and all the lights work. I just purchased the boot cover for the convertable top (used). The car still needs the inside finished. I have two mazda seats in working order to go in. Thank You . MY E-MAIL OOOHAYNOW1@...... Jeremy... You made Nigel's point. "You never tired of running out to look up at it as it passed over" says it all. Without even looking up or being outside, you could obviously could hear it coming while sitting in your living room!! This is exactly ONE of the reasons we didn't join the SST fray. Not useable over the states in terms of coast ot coast or border to border, most especially considering sonic booms. Our airline industry also went "de-regulated" in '78 and both Boeing and Douglas saw a greater need for larger "busses" rather than greater... MORE

"NIH syndrome" Are you kidding? We did the SR-71 along with the Blackbird! Boeing was ready to go on an SST but, the powers that be voted in favor of a "bus" instead, thinking it more important (and far more of a corporate money maker in the long run) to transport "more" at less speed, then "few" at high speed, in view of airline de-regulation over here and the terrific growth in traffic they felt this would produce (which it sure enough did). Also, of course, the SST could never be used over the states considering sonic booms. The... MORE

Hi Colin Thanks for the heads up on the prop plating. Regarding brake pipes, my suggestion was to use Kunifer - a cupro-nickel alloy, which has the advantages of copper with non of the disadvantages and doesn't rust like steel. Nigel "amukdigiphoto" 26940... MORE

Chris... Volvo dyanamos were probably of higher capacity most likely, though I do not know this for a fact. I would have loved to have kept my original BE gauges and most especially the mechnical tach. As a matter of fact, we looked into increasing the capacity of the stock generator but the gen itself was too small to really upgrade it's output decently according to a fellow who does this sort of stuff and with an halos., electric fan, fuel pump and sound system, the stock gens would burn out within a couple of months. I finally just... MORE

Hi guys My car has bonnet and boot props rather than the automatic stays, although it came with an automatic stay for the boot, its wrong and should be a prop, so will be changed. Whether the boot automatic stay was factory fitted or retro fitted I have no idea, it certainly came with the correct fitting on the boot for a prop, so I suspect it was retro fitted. The question is this, early stays were painted, but later ones (like the ones on my car) were plated. What kind of plating was it? Chrome, zinc and clear... MORE
