Whatever! I didn't leave the bugey group, had too many people write to me and tell me to just put up with you guys. Some people have an interest in the cars and what others are doing to them, other are just jealous. About luxury cars, doing a nice job on my seats, adding air bags to the suspension and triangulating the rear end not only makes for a great ride and great looks, but makes it handle unbelievably well. The scariest bit of all with my restoration of my 1500 Midget is coming up.. just ordered the hood, with that fited it's finshed. It will have gone from being an abandoned restoration to a finished car in about a year. I will admit I was the one who abandoned it! I started in 1988. I recognize this is one of those thological deputes that have been debated for years, like wht fluid shouold I use in my dashpots, 20 weight or atf. The fact is that my engine is still within the tolerences specified in the haynes manual. That is it is only .001 larger than stock. This being teh case there is a slight ridge at athe top that needed to be taken off to safely remove the pistons. While the thought crossed my mind, I will refrain from being a smart ass...unlike Robert...;) Stock wheel size (4" wide)? If so, you can safely (though I will not warrant this statement) run 155/80R13 from any, though limited, number of suppliers. If you have wider wheels, you have more choices. I have 5 1/2 inch wide wheels and have run 205/60R13 tires with a little rubbing here and there. As far as brand...what ever rocks your boat that offers the size you need at a price you can afford. THanks for all your help I am going to remove both rear wings and replace them. I managed to get a new passenger side one for =A325 but still need a new drivers side. I have a secondhand one which i will play with but i would prefer a new one. The doors i was goning to remove to restore allthough not that bad. Has anyone tried the modifications listed in the bl st manual? I mean adding twin hs4 SU carbs, a race distributor (part number C-27H7766), a head with 9.5:1 compression, and a free flow exhaust? If it's a standard A+ head, the valves are 1.3" Inlet/1.15" Exhaust; or if it's from an MG Metro it should have had 1.4" inlets. With no other changes, your AAC needles should be somewhere close, or you could try ACE ones (a bit richer in the mid range but leaner at the top end), but in any event, a trip to the rolling road is well worthwhile to get the car set up. Big? How big? The Cooper S had 1.4 intake and 1.2 exhaust valves (1.3 and 1.15 are considered stock for "A" series engines) and it was very steetable with standard rockers and the correct jetted carbs. What you gained was topend grunt without losing much in the lower rev range. "Jim" 36001... MORE
ok I have an american market 1971 mg midget. I just ordered a big valve no lead head from an a+ engine as a replacement/upgrade for my tired old lead head. I rebuild mine and consider myself a C- mechanic. After jacking up the R side, it is accessed thru the large rubber plug on the R side of the tunnel. For me it was just time consuming since you'll have to bleed afterwards. One trick I used was to put a piece of plastic wrap (rubber banded) around the top of the master before you open the bleed nipple on the slave, as this will keep most of the fluid in the system instead of on your garage floor. Hi List, Had to tell about my experience last weekend. Went to the Madison (Wisconsin) Sports Car club 50th anniversery dinner last weekend and got to chat one on one with Stirling Moss. Asked about his experience with Sprites (since I run one in vintage) and he was very enthusiastic about them. He talked about running one at Laguna Seca (sp.?) a few years ago and how much higher reving it was than the factory cars back in 59-62. He really enjoys them as you can get away with "overdriving" and "abusing" them, without loosing it. Great to see... MORE
