Gerard, Thanks, and I agree, but don't have access to another dizzy, just my modified one. My spark is totally gone now, so I think I'm going to just order a crane 700 and a lucas sport coil tomarrow. I have used POR-15 in my front wheel wells and engine compartment and have mixed feelings on it. It has a great shine to it when finished and I liked that aspect. One problem that I had was that as it cured/dried it formed bunches of tiny bubbles on the surface. When I talked to their tech people they said that the humidity must have been too high and that it is sensitive to humidity. They recommended that I sand all the bubbled surfaces with 440 paper and to put on another coat. This happened last fall and I... MORE
Guys: Yes the stuff sets up as hard as a rock. Anytime I have used it I too sanded/blasted the metal back to bare ao not to take any chances. I think the problems may come from application over rusted metal areas, places you can't get all the rust off first. They do give good directions on it's use. Always wear gloves when painting with it, stays on your skin for weeks. And it does break down when exposed to sunlight, so you Must top coat if using in those conditions. Bruce, I run a beautiful (I think) set of American Racing wheels on my Midget. They are Chevy Vega hub pattern. I'm going to post pix of the car next week so you can see them if so inclined. From what I've read and heard the biggest tire you can run on the Ro's is 170/70/13. I can tell you from personal experience that 5.5 inch rim and 165/70's will not fit without modifications. As regards flat or gloss, an old friend of mine visited the factory at Abingdon while they were producing rubber bumper cars and he said you could look down the rows of parked cars awaiting dispatch and pick out some that had distinctly more shiny bumpers than others, possibly due to different moulds being used. So it's your choice, but I think glossy looks better. However, the front and rears were actually different material, various sources say the rear is nylon (to resist fuel spills) and the front polycarbonate. Hi, Curt... Pure race Huffaker carbs are modified to be "fixed" rather than "variable" venturi...IOW, the air valves are held fully open and machined to form the top of the venturi (or "fixed choke"..which is not to be confused with "choking" for mixture enrichment when cold). So, the butterfly works but not the air valve. Thus, to start "cold", you need to cut off part of the air supply to artificially enrichen the mixture. Hi All I have a 79 midget with rubber bumpers. I wish I had an earlyer model metal bummper car but I dont. :( My question is were the bumpers a flat look or a gloss look? My midget is in great shape and next year as I save cash I am going to have it painted.But for now I would like to paint them for this season. So flat or gloss? Groupies - Has anyone found a good way to strip the factory rust proofing from the bottom of a Midget? My 75 has rustproofing about as hard as concrete, I'll been finishing the top side and interior soon and was hoping to remove most of the under coating by hand someway to speed the striping process. Would a hand propane torch and a puddy knife work, or will I set it on fire? I have a small blaster and know it would take way to long to blast through all that sludge. Ryan That's great news. That is a really simple fix. They just usually wear out from age, dry rot. Did you replace it when you did the rebuild? If so, do you have the carb heat sheild in place? Good luck Mike mk2sprite@... 31718... MORE
That was it, you were right, the rubber carb diaphram is riddled with slices, six in all, that bicycle-spoke out from the center. I hadn't wanted to check that at first since i just rebuilt the carb less than 8 months and 1000miles ago. Now to order a replacement and figure out what ate the thing up so fast. Hi, Im looking at putting twin 40s on the midget, but im not overly familiar with webers or dellortos personally so was wondering what the pros / cons of each were. Theyre not going onto a stock engine btw, thats in the process of having its components lightened and balanced, the stock cam is going and the head is polished ported with larger inlet valves. On my way back from dropping my kids off at school this morning, I met a guy with a gorgeous 1969 TR6. Turns out his lower back problems are preventing him from fully enjoying the car so he wants to sell it. It's immaculate inside and out AND for those of you who'd ever dreamed of a Sunbeam Tiger or a TR8, it has a professionally installed 350 Chevy engine and auto trans AND a Corvette rear end. I am getting ready to get a 1961 MG Midget from a person I work with. I looked in my Moss book it looks like they started at 1962. He was in some war and had the car shipped home. Will I be able to get parts? He says it runs wonderful and it needs a little paint. He is selling the car to me for $500 Is that an ok price? Is there any info on 1961 Midgets that you could give me? Too late - it's already been done - John Cooper did it with a Mini, and the factory did it with a Mini Moke (Twinni Moke). Neither of them were that successful (probably because they only had 60 or 70 psi oil pressure) David PS why bother locking the rear steering? it'd be much more interesting having both ends steer, and none of that wimpy Honda 4WS where they only have a limited amount of lock at the rear!
