Gerard, I live in central florida. I am looking to rebuild one in to a 1380. I would like to get the basic core block, crank, rods, head... thank you, Chris "Chris" 30942... MORE
David- I'm probably dealing with a number of issues. Jens advised that the foam I am using is much denser. I suspect that I do not sit "into" the seat like before. Putting on weight is not really an issue. Since I began this restoration, I have put on 100 pounds..... For me, this is a real problem. The frames were sandblasted and painted. All components were replaced and the seats covered with leather. I have a bit of money in them, and they are beautiful. Unfortunately, because of my size and how I sit in the seats, I... MORE
Alan..(IMHO) I would go with the WW on the BE as this car will most likely be less hard driven than the Spridget and most likely, will go out on nice days and not be driven in the wet. IOW, the wire wheels will last longer and give better service life on the BE, then the "daily driver" Spridget which will be subject to inclement weather. Just remember to grease the splines every six months and they should last a good, long time in view of the "limited" driving you'll be doing with the BE. The stock BE rear... MORE
I have a pair of front stub axles and complete rear axle with tube shock conversion with a set of wirewheels. In need of some TLC. My RWA midget, under restoration, has Rostyles also in need of TLC. I believe my Frogeye* also has pressed steel wheels, in need of TLC. When restored, the midget and frogeye will both be useable but not concours. However, The frogeye will be more of the show car and used for runs etc. The midget will be used for fun 'driving'(read hooling around , commuting to work, having a blast etc) So, which... MORE
Hi Guys, Well, I went back and rechecked my fuel filter, a new one installed only a month or two back....it was full of rust. Took the filler tube off and saw my gas tank was full of rust. Local radiator shop was going to charge $130 to clean and coat my old tank, decided to spend a few more bucks and got a new tank (and another filter). Test drive went fine, wife is happy and so am I! Thanks to everyone for their thoughts and advice Mark "MARK" 30877... MORE

Hi Kevin You are right in that chrome is virtually impossible to paint. The paint just goes into small droplets like rain on a freshly polished car. (I think that we have all experienced that!) Stripping the chrome is simple and just requires a bath in hydrochloric acid....a job best left to a plating shop for obvious reasons. That will strip it back to the nickel plate which in turn can be given a light sanding with wet and dry to give you a surface ready to paint. As it's a reproduction part though, just leave it outside over... MORE
I noticed in some old brochures that the gas cap on my car would have been painted Riviera Blue to match the body, but mine is a non- original lockable chrome cap. The only aftermarket reproduction gas caps I see for sale are chrome. Does anyone know where to find a reproduction cap that is non-chrome so that I can paint it? (I assume chrome can't be painted and that it is difficult to remove). Thanks, Kevin "Kevin Odhner" 30862... MORE
Can someone please tell me what the correct empty and full resistance is for a Bugeye fuel sender and gauge? I am going to use an ATL fuel cell and fuel sender and need to know if I must also buy the gauge or can use my stock one. Thanks, Curt "cfisher1a" 30860... MORE
Thank you for your responses By Modern driving I am assuming that they are talking about fast road and motorway driving 60-80 mph. I'm not sure exactly what rpm she'd be doing at that speed but I would imagine that it would be around the 4000+ mark. Given what has been said then in 90F summer heat an oil cooler would be very beneficial for fast use. However I wouldn't take the Midget onto the motorway for the same reasons that I wouldn't take the Cooper onto the motorway 1. It is too small and vulnerable 2. It is... MORE
If you want to keep the rear axle and suspension stock, I wouldn't go overboard in increasing the power output from standard - even an enthusiastically driven 1275 can break standard halfshafts! David "David Jacobs" 30801... MORE
Listers - My current project Midget (75) has no motor or trans, I'm searching for alternate powertrains to transplant into it, does anyone have photos, info or web sites they have run across on hot rodded Midgets they could pass along to me? Currently have a Ford 2.0 litre 4 cylinder with matching 4 speed, but looking at other options, plan on looking around for a 2.3L Ford 4 cyl with a five speed, which could be transplanted without too much hassle. Ford 2.3L turbo motor would be nice too, but don't want to spend a ton of cash,... MORE
Hi, Snakeperson... The stock (rubber) diaphragm is "good" if you can remove the filtered (containing a "graduated" orifice) cap and the idle increases about 200rpm. The first sign (usually) of a worn out rubber diaphragm is, of course, an exhaust suddenly smoking and an enigne suddenly using a helluva lot of oil, both for apparent no good reason at all. Not familiar with the "quacking duck" type of PVC valve! :) Cap'n. Bob '60 :{) PilotRob@... 30795... MORE
David Why within four months? They could well have been NLA for some time before that price list was printed - they just wern't removed; or they could well have become NLA within that four month period - this isn't the first time I've ordered something and been told it's NLA. It happens for a variety of reasons - existing suppliers stop making them due to low demand/not cost effective etc. It's highly unlikely that someone at Moss didn't know what they were looking for - all the orders are punched into a terminal via a part number (presumably... Tensile strength B.S.S. Grade 'T' 55-65 T/in (850-1005mPa). I'm not sure off hand what the actual specs for other grades are, but I believe SAE 5 is equivalent to Grade S (Metric 8.8) and SAE 8 = Grade V Metric 10.9 Regards David I couldn't remember what the "something" was - it's been a while since I saw them off the car. Incidentally, where does the 'Grade 5' come from? is it the American standard marking for tensile strength? The UK tends to use a letter (R, S or T typically) Regards David "David Jacobs" 30778... James... Anything you can do to "cool" a motor which is otherwise running at a normal temperature extends service life. Yesterday's petroleum oils got by on viscosity more than film strength. Today they get by on both, more or less, while synthetics go more with film strength than viscosity for superior lubrication, inclusive of their ability to maintain superior film strength at higher operation temperature than the most modern of petroleums. Oil which is "overcooled" does not perform as well as oil running at "proper" temperature...thus the oilstat. However, one must monitor the oilstat for proper operation and thus,... MORE
Buick / Rover v8 same engine fitted into MGB V8 Perhaps ? Chap I work with was in the develpment when the engine came over for evaluation. In its stock form gave about 93 bhp (exact figures may not be correct) . After Rover had developed (at great expense) it for Brit use, the power was down to 84 bhp. My mate was not impressed and told the management so. Same engine was fitted into Range Rovers and Discoverys also alan "Alan East-Jones" 30758... MORE
I'm guessing without checking, Is this switch a mechanical one? Minis had pressure switch mounted in a tee piece (or possibly a 4 way connector ) in the hydraulic line before it was ( or just where it was) teed off to the rear brakes. It was fitted under the bonnet and easy to get at - only downer was if it needed replacing you had to bleed the brakes. Could be a simple mod ( Period though not original) that could be put to use in the midget. I never heard of one going wrong and almost bulletproof.... MORE
Toyman With the greatest respect to you and your wife... ...yes thats sneaky and wrong. However, does your wife not read things before she signs up to them? Maybe I'm just an old bitter and twisted cynic, that trusts no-one, and signs nothing till I've read every single word of what I'm signing up for; but I take the view that you do not get something for nothing in this world and if someone is desperate for me to sign up to something - it has to be in their interest and not mine and I steer well clear... I am about to install new interior door panels. Should I glue a sheet of plastic behind the panel? Was a plastic liner used from the factory? What is the purpose and does it do any good? Enough questions for this early..... Thanks for the help. Paul '73 RWA (almost 5 speed) "dfwip" 30741... MORE
Pretty flowers . . . of course... It could be your little secret . . . and a surprise for some future restorer who will post to a spridget group asking if they came from the factory that way. Course if they had ever seen carpets in some English homes they may not question its originality of a floral pattern. :-) Don "Don May" 30759... MORE
Paul, A plastic liner was not used from the factory. What was used was a tan color duct tape like material that was cut into various shapes and taped over the various openings to the interior door. Don "Don May" 30743... MORE

David Because as I already said - they're NLA when I tried to order them - in other words - No Longer Available, otherwise I'd have ordered them. Fortunately, I was able to get them all off without damaging them, and kept them like I do with everything else I take of the car - just in case I can't get replacements - in this instance it seems just as well! For some weird reason, I could only find 7 of the bolts - not sure where the 8th one got to, so I've cleaned them up and re-used... MORE
The original method of fixing *was* a circlip plus a Belleville washer. It's not clear when the change was made to the awful E clip, or even if that was ever a factory fitment or just on replacement cylinders. David "David Jacobs" 30677... MORE
