The tires rest a bit on the inside slopes of the wheel racks of the dolly but did tie down snugly. A buddy that had towed a midget on a dolly went down with me and things went smoothly. Backed it up on the dolly and locked the steering wheel. Stopped several times on the trip home and all was fine. Feels so good to have finished the paper work hassle and now to have it home at last. As far as U-Haul knows I towed home a 1985, blue, two door, Ford Escort. :-) I have no idea... MORE

Rob... the temp rise, along with the stumble... tells me it's running very lean at higher speeds. Do an old fashioned 'plug check'. Find a stretch of road where you can cruise at say.. 30-40mph steady for about 10 minutes. While at speed, switch off the ignition and coast/brake over to the side of the road. Pull a sparkplug and see if it's whitish, or grayish/brown in color. Now repeat the cruise at 50-55mph. Kill the engine at speed Pull over and check the plugs again. Hi Everyone: I am now trying to fit my car's interior back together (it's a 1979 1500 Midget with Russett Brown xterior and what I think is Autumn Leaf interior). I have heard conflicting names for the brownish/russet colored interior that my car came with.can someone tell me how I can determine definitively if its Autumn Leaf (and not Biscuit or Beige or something else)? Does anyone have the measurements between the 6 points on the shocks on a 1975 midget. I live in a very small town and the body shops here don't have any type of information on mg's. My midget has more problems than I first thought. I replaced the negative camber bushings in the lower a-arms with a new set of stock ones, checked the distance between the lower a-arms after buying a shop manual from Moss, checked the spindle, and removed and checked the shock mounts to see if they had been played with and still have too much... Jack, I'm running 185 70s on Cosmic 5.5s with 1/4" spacers on the rear. Have about 1/8" clearance to the springs. On hard cornering, they apparently rub the spring at one of the clamps, because the paint there is very slightly erased and the sidewalls have the slightest scuff mark. A smudge, not an abrasion or cut. I can't hear 'em rub at all, so I'm not worried. I suspect your 1/4 - 1/2" is plenty enough. Anybody got a good reason otherwise, I'd like to know too. I came across a really good deal on a used set of Minilite replicas with 175x70x13's mounted on them. The guy let me take one home and check to see if there would be any clearance problems. On the front, there is absolutely no doubt that they will run without rubbing. Lock to lock there is no touching. On the back, they roll just fine but, I noticed that there is only about 1/4 to 1/2 inch clearance between the inboard sidewall and the rear eliptical spring. Now that my blue 63 has been sold to someone who loves it dearly I bought a purple 73rwa to keep my yellow 74rwa company however the 73 will sport a bugeye bonnet and a color change. Paper work was a bit of a hassle owners and buyers who did not report the sales so the DMV needs a paper trail in order to transfer title to me but think that is all in place now. "I am building a 1275 to the specs of my 1340 Cooper S that I had in the UK. I had the cam ground close to the 731 cam that I had in that motor. It will have a big valve head and cooper s distributor. It is .030 over. I have several leather hides and decided to cover all panels and dash with that. I put floors, lt rocker and A post piller sections back in it plus a new bonnet. (Since buying a bonnet I bought a 68 with an excellent bonnet for $400.) Oh well. All... MORE

Hello Folks I have just finished last spring on a 3 yr restoration on my 1971 MG Midget. The only thing I did not touch would be the motor. The PO said at the time of purchase that he had rebuilt the motor and it only had around 6,000 miles on it. Maybe he did maybe he didn't. My question is, if the timing chain goes what can I expect? HI all: I have a 1979 midget 1500 that currently has a group 24 battery.this does not fit well in the stock battery box, but this is the size that the auto parts place shows is correct. Driving to work this morning I heard Bob and Tom, my favorite morning DJ's talking about a new sport in Las Vegas. "Hunters" can stalk Bambi, with a paint ball gun for only $10,000.00! "Bambi" is a young lady clad only in running shoes. She get's $1000.00 if she is bagged, and $2500 if she evades the mighty hunter. Yes, Electric Fan well worth doing (IMHO). Mine is actually a mk2 Sprite but I have a Kenlowe fitted as a puller (i.e. inside the engine bay pulling air in through the rad) and the engine fan removed. I actually ignored the Kenlowe fitting kit which is a one size fits none Heath Robinson affair. I slung the fan on some brackets attached to the shroud. It's been like that for several years 20k miles and seems fine. Ava would have a different rad. of course but still possible I expect. It's a great mod beacuse it's win-win. The... MORE
The green wire spoken of is inside the case. An excellent illustration is on this site: http://www.lotus-cortina.com/electric/convert.htm There is also a schematic for the more technical savvy. A 150 ohm resistor, (mistakenly called a diode in some instructions) in the "positive ground" unit one end is soldered to the "power in lug" which in a positive ground car would be the negative side of the battery. Resistor color ring markings: first brown 1, second green 5, third brown x 1 zero. The silver band would be the tolerance which is +/- 10% "Don May" 23394... MORE
Hi all, Well I am now back home from my week in Scotland, with over 100 e-mail waiting for me. I drove up in Ava, my Mk 3 Midget, and she behaved beautifully over the 503 miles. Only did about 40 miles while there, as we drove in the CRV each day from our B&B to the cottage we are renovating. We achieved what we set out to do on this visit, i.e. lay a concrete floor in one of the downstairs rooms, have the electrics hooked up properly to the new wiring, and get the windows in where... Cut off outer sill and decided to replace inner sill rather than put plates over the little bits of rust on it. Have heard of jacking point reinforcers can any one describe these and when and how to fit them? If not available commercially I was going to just weld a plate around the jacking tube hole in the inner sill to make it a bit thicker here and spread the load. Don't! If there is water in it you need room for a header - for expansion - and that means all the hoses etc to give proper circulation, and you will be able to run it only for a few moments, and if there is not a header - how much money did you say you want to throw away on an unnecessary rebuild?
