Adam This really isn't an easy question to answer, which is why I suspect you haven't had many replies! I read this last night and I've been pondering it ever since! George... I think you have three problems: 1.The intake manifold mounted PCV system uses the vented/filtered oil filler cap to provide for incoming air. 2. The most effective crankcase scavenging consists of a feed to the PCV valve from below the pistons. 3. The "cover" to the old mechanical fuel pump fitting on the forward left side of the block just above the flange can be used as a "source" for relieving lower crankcase vapor/pressure in place of the old takeoff on the stock timing case cover which no longer exists, in consideration of your new timing cover set-up... Hi again: Thanks to all those that helped answer some questions I had about the carpet, that was most useful. I found that I have snaps on the footwell carpet and the trans tunnel. Question: The rear wheel arch cover pieces seem to have a small vinyl pad sewn into them. I assume this is a wear pad for the top frame? Or could I have placed this piece in the wrong spot??? How about a sixties Midget or Sprite. I run a mk2 Sprite ('63) as more or less an everyday car (I do have access to my girlfriends car and sometimes I'll buy a banger to get me through the worst of winter). It still looks like a sixties car, has the superior (zips up flame suit) qu arter elliptical rear suspension of the frog and with its aluminium cheese grater grille has as much of a grin as a frog. Hello.. I have two sprigets.. The first car is a 1974 1500 (yes they do exist as I had to keep telling anyone I orderd parts for it from!)Which I bought in 1988, dorve for 6 months and then stripped, scince then I have replaced the inner and outer sills, repaired the floor and the front chassis sections and inner fornt arches.. restoration has stalled there, and the last time I actulally worked on it was 1991 IIRC! Well, Nigel... Your searching for something here but it's not about the 1500 or a correct way to modify or sort the handling on a car. With respect to the 1500, It's mostly all add-on stuff to the original type so the mfgs. could extend the life of the type while meeting later day safety standards. As such, all "earlier" prior specs and parts are available so it's not as though one is dealing with a new type. I don't know if this will help, but... My friend (who runs a repair shop in So.cal for British cars) recently started working on a 75 midget and the clutch would not disengage. He told me he fixed it with the following process. Remember, this was done because the clutch would not release (like it was continually "in gear and rolling"). They push started it in second gear. Got it going fast enough to get it into third gear (without the clutch). Then stood on the brakes while it was in third gear and rolling. The car shook and... MORE
Just got my repair manual. It is a big help. Checked the fluid levels in both the clutch and transmission. Topped them both off. No change. Bled the slave. It had air. No change. Clutch still isn't disengaging. That is about the extent of what I can do in my backyard and will be sending it to the doctor on Monday. Didn't see any place (in the manual) that indicated that the clutch can be adjusted. Didn't touch the turn signal. Thanks for the help. "Rick & Deb" 23934... MORE
Brad, Good luck on your first road test. I just got my 75 Midget running semi-properly this summer after 4 years of effort. If it's any comfort my list of needed parts is now two spreadsheet pages; engine, tranny, radiator, compete brake and clutch rebuild, tube shock conversion, new interior etc. etc. etc. I have also discovered I need to pull the engine.... again. I used the original clutch as it looked fairly recent but failed to consider the effect of time on the springs. Car runs fine but slips in higher gears when I put my foot down... MORE
A few months ago there was a tool on ebay for installing this nasty little circlip. It looked like it threaded into where the hydraulic pipe goes on the cylinder and then another threaded ring compressed the circlip until it popped into place. I missed out on the ebay one but would now like to get myself one, preferably in the UK but if you know where they are available in the US then let me know that too. Nigel... Way back when I just used Fantastic and Brillo pads to clean them up and sprayed them with Rustoleum Silver. I'd do them every spring and used Fantastic to clean them about every time I washed he car, which was often considering my both my MGA's were Old English White. Today, I'd clean them annually with something stronger like Easy-Off Oven Cleaner and spray them with Hammerite Silver, using Fantastic as part of a normal car wash to keep them clean between stripping/paintings. Alan It seems you're following in my footsteps or viceversa, having done/doing this exact same job myself. Perhaps you can benefit from my experience. First off, forget using any kind of power tool on the underseal its a waste of time. The technique that I found works reasonably well on removing the underseal is as follows, I'm afraid however you tackle this job, it's not pleasant, will take ages is boring and messy as hell. Well, Guy Weller..... The tonneau when "down" would block one of those speakers mounted in the area (otherwise neat location, BTW!:) you speak of, Guy. So, I too will experiment with a single earpiece set-up initially and see how it works out. "Roger" on the ear plugs...used them all the time together with Dave Clark headset "gel" ear pads when flying the friendly skies. Audible sound was "behind us" in any event, most of the "hearing" taking place in the spine and bones (vibrations). ..sounds like your rear leaf springs to axle u-bolts need to be tightened. The whole axle can easily shift up to 2-3 degrees off line with the road direction. Michael, The old bounce test is a pretty reliable indicator of shock function. Push the nose of the car down several times and if it rebounds more than one and a half times shocks probably need attention. Topping off the fronts is fairly straight forward. Remove the valve and add. I switched to tube front shocks as mine originals were shot and didn't respond to additional fluid. I/m very satisfied with the new set up. Set me back about $300 from Winners Circle in Cleveland. To my embarrassment I have never touched the rear shocks. They seem to be... MORE
OK, let's try: Looks like a MKII or MKIII Midget according to the grille, bumpers and bonnet with chrome liner (non split rear bumper, thick bumpers, MG grille without the MG badge...). If you look at the seats....The early Midget MKII had a horse-shoe pattern seat, this changed later to the shown striped pattern. The missing chrome stripes at the sides and the Steering wheel horn butten might tell it's a Sprite. So my best guess: - 1966 MKII MG Midget, without side chrome stripes, and a non-original steering wheel It might even be an early Midget MKIII (1966/67).... MORE
