"stock 1275...3.73....smoke the tires" Yes it will. Most especially when we team the foregoing with the slightly lower 1st gear of the Datsun 5 speed "whilst" (I like this word........it's got a.............. well.......certain "flavor" so to speak) we enjoy a more serene 70mph cruise in 5th. With the Cooper S cam advanced 4 degrees for Metro inlet timing, I gotta be careful of this in the rain. In 2nd as well (in the lower range after the clutch is in, yet). And this with 70 Series 175 T/A's yet. Cap'n Bob "Quick" :{) "Robert E. Shlafer" 37074... MORE
A stock 1275 in good condition works very nicely with a 3.73. 3800 rpm (145-13 tires) = 70 mph, and it will smoke the tires in 1st gear. "joe blxfstz" 37071... MORE
It will obviously reduce the strength back to what it had been thought adequate for the previous 15 years of Spridget production. I've never done it, but it should be fairly easy to do, if you can get access to drill/grind all the spot welds. The only converted rubber bumper shell I've seen personally was used with A series running gear so it didn't have your clearance issues, and the owner cut his 70-74 type grill to fit round the rails, and hid the ends with a pair of spotlights. I thought you might like to see these stats about dragsters. It is surprising and amazing. Bob Dragsters..... Cool info about dragsters.......... * One Top Fuel dragster 500 cubic inch Hemi engine makes more horsepower than the first 4 rows of race cars at the Daytona 500. * Under full throttle, a dragster engine consumes 1=BD gallons of nitromethane per second. * A stock Dodge Hemi V8 engine cannot produce enough power to even drive the dragster supercharger. * With 3000 CFM of air being rammed in by the supercharger on overdrive, the fuel mixture is compressed into a... Only one thing .. doesn't the 65 have a tent for a roof? I really would not waste the money on rebuilding the engine if its running fine, far better spending the money on the body, plenty of spare mechaincals about from peple who have done it the wrong way round and found they can't afford to get the body done. 2nd gear syncro is prone to wearing, just learn to drive without it chances are if the box is rebuilt it won't be long before it is shot again!, I suspect most of the other list members have!,... Hello, Well it's a sad day I have to sell my Sprite. Life and school don't seem to agree with my little English car. Here is a list of all the goodies that it has: Some details are: Engine 1089cc bored .040 over Intake valve is 1 5/16"(Rimflow) Exhaust valve is1 1/16 (Rimflow) The head has been ported and has a 10:1 compression ratio. The cam specs are duration @ .020 (In./Ex.) 268-272. Rockers ratio is 1.5:1 Duplex adjustable cam gear Also has Isky duel value springs. I misunderstood. I thought you said it misfires above 2800, when what you actually said is that it misfires AT 2800, but is okay above and below. I'm pretty sure this is a carburation problem wherein at a certain rpm there is a strange harmonic set up in the intake manifold and carburetor, which causes erratic, uncontolled movement of the air piston. Try this: Remove the old oil from the piston damper. To do this you'll have to remove the cap and the screws which hold the cover in place. Then remove the piston and it's diaphragm. Be careful,... Rick, When I went to install the Frontline tube shock conversion, I had to totally re-pipe the front brake lines from the MC to the calipers. (Frontline forgets to mention that small detail.) So I figured while I was at it, I would put in the LL. I do expect to run at the drags eventually and use it. It's good for laughs now - a couple of years ago at the Syracuse Nationals, Third Rail was a big crowd pleaser in an impromtu burnout contest in one of the hotel parking lots. Wheels - no, I have 14... MORE
Yes, Cap'n, personal in the sense that it is aftermarket. It is a Grant GT. I'd prefer a plain horn cap, though. I don't like logos, raised white letters on tires, etc. (Pay me if you want me to advertise your damn product.) It's actually a little too small. I can't see a all of the speedometer in the 40 - 70mph range, but the more important tach is fully visible. It was a lot of screwing around to adapt the hub fitting I had and get the horn to work, but it seems ok now. I haven't had... MORE
Rick, My V6 is a GM crate motor sold for replacement of the Chevy S10 2.8L V6. It is rated at 160 hp if the stock S10 2bbl intake and cast iron exhaust manifolds were bolted back on it. With my headers and Holley/Offy intake system, I would guess mines's up toward 190 or so, but I have no dyno data. This month I am planning to install a set of Crane roller rockers, so that sould push it up over 200hp. My traction sucks. The 185s I have don't hook up. The only time they did when I... MORE
Thanks, Matt. No I don't have any video. I've been meaning to do something like mount a camera to the roll bar looking over my shoulder and take some of a pass through the gears, but haven't gotten around to it. It turns out that a large share of the noise at high RPM and throttle is intake noise into the 4 bbl. It's pretty noticeable with the top down. If I get some shot this summer I will post it. A launch in 2nd gear, breaking loose and then releasing the line lock would look pretty funny too.... MORE
Wait a minute, toyperson.... you're too lazy to remove the spark plugs but have the energy to push the car in gear??? The last sets of brake and clutch pedal pads I've bought have been really crappy, and fell apart within a few thousand miles. I know these have never been much good, but they seem worse lately. Are there some which are better than others? How do you know? Who sells good ones? "joe blxfstz" 36772... MORE
"It just might roll down the driveway" Geeze....BFD....like this is rocket science or something...yeh, right. It didn't roll yesterday when I set the "rollers" on my 1.5 set-up and hasn't in 42 years so I sorta doubt it, most especially since parking brakes and wheel chocks were "invented". Unless you got a clutch fan, do it my way and you won't need a chock anyway. Just leave it in neutr al and set the parking brake....OK!! If it makes you feel better, put a chock(s) under a wheel....or dead cat(s)! Now, take the damn plugs out so the engine... MORE
Or at least the MOT tester thinks it is, Took it for it's MOT this morning and it passed. It still has a high idle to sort out (the throttle spindles are a little stiff it would seem) Nad the clutch master cylindre would apear to need new seals still. For those that don't know the MOT is the yearly road worthyness test here in the UK the car can't be driven on public roads with out a currnet MOT certificate, unless you are driving to a pre-arranged MOT inspection. Stewart PS this is the first MOT it has... MORE
How do you lube the steering on a 60 bugeye. There is a zirc fitting and the book says to use 140 weight gear oil. I went to the car parts store and couldn't find a tool to inject the oil into the fitting. Any ideas? Thanks Bob Irwin rlirwn@... 36732... MORE
Vince....I may be mis-understanding your terms, but here goes..... Off hand, it sounds like the front carb is "weak" while the rear carb is "correct" or maybe a little rich. Don't forget, these are "interdependent" considering they're "connected" by a "balance" tube. Therefore it is possible for one carb to run the whole show....IOW, one "weak" and one maybe "overly" rich. For BOTH carbs..... the result with proper mixture should be a slight initial rise in rpm (50 or so) followed by a return to the prior i dle speed as the air valve is "held" less than 1/8"... MORE
The MG died because there wasn't the money to modernize it, so they tried to patch up a twenty year old design (the running gear was 30+ years old) and noboby wanted them. As far as "not that we are bigger" - Well, speak for yourself. My Sprite has shrunk three sizes in the last 45 years. Must not have been sanforized and left out in the rain too often. Didn't the end of the MG come about the same time as they started requiring all the safty gear installed in cars. And that would also explain why the new Mini's are bigger, not that we are bigger. Just a thought. Bob, Troutdale, OR "Robert Webb" 36684... MORE
Two words. Crash Test. They have to furnish something like 20 cars to the testing bed. Aside from financial difficulties at the time (early 80s) MG found themselves increasingly unable to produce a quality roadster for the US market due to polution controls, crash test expenses, safety features and a lot of other concerns. The power output of even the B engine when harnessed to air pumps, hydrocatalysts, polution gear, crash safety problems (recall with the rubber bumpers were for!!) was really anemic. The midget - even the 1500 - was a dead loss with all that junk hung... MORE
Hello, Couple of questions I have hopefully some one can solve them for me. My Car is Uk 1500cc 1976 Midget First my car does not indicate tothe right when the steering wheel is dead straight. The lights does not come up and the dash board and the clicking noise is far more rapid than it should be. However when I turn the steering wheel a small amount in either direction it works fine. ( And i get strange looks when I have to sway across the road so my car will indicate) The left hand indicator works fine.... MORE
Listers - The enigine/trans is a 1963 all aluminum Buick V8, 215 ci. (I'm told the 4barrel carbed ones are high compression, something like 11 to 1 and are good for a stock 200hp) The trans is a Borg-Warner T-50, aluminum 5 speed, I think it's from a late 70's Chevy V8 Monza. The added frame rails are 2" square steel tube, not sure I needed that much added to the sides of the original frame rails (probably could have used a 1" x 2" on it's side) but boy did it ever stiffen up after they were installed.... Hi Folks, Recently my uncle passed away and I now am suddenly becoming more involved with the family farm, he was running it up until now. First thing is the barns need a massive cleanout. Neither my dad or my uncle ever threw anything away. Me either for that matter. I was there today working and I found a small stash of Spridget parts there I forgot I had. Main thing is a whole 1/4 elliptic rearend drum to drum with 4.22 gears. Springs are cut, but everything else is there. I also saw a heater blower and a... MORE
