Rob I couldn't agree more. However, Ben is on a shoestring budget so I think buying a new car for him is rather unlikely financially. His best bet is to try and get his Midget as reliable as he can on his small budget. Hi All, Got a car in with an A+ engine in it and a coolant leak out the dizzy side. Nothing unusual there. It had a head gasket that's a very hard type of material, blackish dark grey, something I've never seen before, It also was installed upside down and backwards!!!!!!! But the question is: Is this a preferred head gasket material over the nice Payen copper gasket? That one I've learned to put on so it doesn't leak coolant. Head is at the machine shop being trued. Jim- I will keep you posted. I am "down" to about 200 lbs but am over 6' tall. Ingress and egress is not a problem, but the movement of my foot from gas to brake is difficult. It would be impossible if my feet were bigger than size 8! Your idea about "relaxing the webbing underneath is excellent. I will give it a try. Hi I have changed to a manual choke in my 1500 Midget I was curious to see where most of you have mounted your choke cable. In the dash is not an option, I wnat to keep it reversable. and I was hoping not to have to put a hole in any interior panels , but that may be the best place, on passenger side? Thanks Mike. Jim, The red wire "would normally" go to the plus (+ or SW) connection on the coil and the black wire to the negative (- or CB) coil connection. It's either gonna work or go pufff. A LU142 (positive ground) & LU142A (negative ground) are the spridget distributor units for positive and negative ground cars in that order. One might "Ass-u-me" that the LU143 "might" be for a positive ground since there is no "A" as the last letter, or then again, since it's for an aftermarket distributor it might well be for a negative ground car? Brad, I don't know of any ready made double zerked A-arms, surely if there are any, someone here will know. If not, I did my own setup, and it was fairly easy - as follows. I first knocked out the penny sized blank plugs from behind. You might be able to do that without dismantling the assembly, if you can come in through the grease hole in the pin with a long solid metal rod, maybe a nail. Would not suggest doing anything there with a drill that would leave behind metal shavings for obvious reasons. With the plugs... MORE

I put one in my Bugeye, aftermarket, plastic with two screw mounts, on the passenger side of the heater box, above the panel, out of sight because of the dash. You have to know it is there to find it. There is a brown, always hot wire, that comes through the firewall and goes to the ignition switch. There is a "Lucas" conector right after it comes through the firewall. I changed that to a dual plug and plug the "non usable for heat" cig. lighter into that and grounded it through one of the mounting screws. Bob, Troutdale,... MORE
Thanks Don - the radio shack behind the dash idea is a good suggestion, rather than putting a hole in the dash. The lighter is listed as an option in the manual, so I am guessing there might even be existing leads ready to connect. Rather than go from the battery or fuse box, I was thinking I would want to hook it up to a point in the circuitry after the accessories key switch (does my car even have an accesories key switch?) so that when my car was off, any portable device left plugged in would not... I had a bit of a windfall hit me yesterday. I would like to use this money to purchase a pair of A arms with the kingpins already attached. I know that true happiness if found through the application of heat and curse words on the original A arms as one attempts to remove the badly worn fulcrum pin with cobbled together tools. Kevin, I do not think, or I have never seen a 1965 Midget with a lighter. Do not see any photos in the Terry Horler book. However, on later models the cigar lighter is located on the front right of the radio console. If the sole purpose of the lighter socket is for power for portable devices then any generic 12V cigarette lighter socket will work and no need for the actual lighter unit. Should there be any sideways slack on the bolt in each end of the radius arms or should they be tight. I have just fitted new arms and they have rather a big sideways slack/movement on the bolts each end. Should i make up some spacers to rid the slack. the plastic is usually stuck to the door itself - either over the whole door, or just over the openings. It is to protect the hardboard backing to the interior panel from any moisture that runs down inside the door. David "David Jacobs" 30779... MORE

Although several strips of duct tape could be used over the larger openings a thought for a substitute for the original would be plastic coated contact paper such as was used to cover shelf's and furniture tops. Plenty strong enough as the function was only to keep dust, moisture and insects out of the interior door and window mechanism. Don "Don May" 30745... MORE

What's wrong with this picture? My brake light switch failed on my '71 Midget, so I ordered a replacment from Moss. I start to remove the old switch (the neck of the switch is threaded and mounted in a threaded hole in the clutch/brake pedal box) by attempting to rotate it out of its hole........to my surprise (I should not be, being a Midget owner!) it won't rotate because of lack of clearance! How is it done? I have read the method in the Haynes, and I am not certain any of the 4 bolts on each side will survive being taken off! or even if they will come undone at all. tried one and it sheared immediately, another is just turning and it looks nearly impossible to get a spanner of the upper side of it on the inner two bolts.
