Does anyone have one of these that they have in their spares bin. Also, any list vendors that have a good quality repro, please contact me off list with price and availability. The switch in the 68 is shot, and I have made something up using a 75 plastic rocker snapped to the 68 base. I would like to see about getting the correct plain black rocker in the car. Jens You took me a little too literally. If you recall I said I was working on the rear axle - the handbrake mechanism that links the two levers inside the brake drums is connected by rods held together with clevis pins - the felt washers with grease on them fit on the clevis pins where the rods join together - helps stop rattle and allows the joints to move smoothly. Hi James Welcome to the group. The original hood material was made by ICI under the trade name 'Vynide'. You can tell an 'original Vynide' hood by the diamond pattern on the lining. The Moss hoods are made by the same people who made the original hoods - and use the original jigs, and are as close to that 'Vynide' material as you'll get. Moss OE hoods cost round =A3140.00. You can try the MGOC, they do a cheaper version at =A3115, or their OE hood made from 'Everflex' at =A3125. I have no idea how these compare, or... MORE
So Chris, are you saying when troubleshooting a problem such as this never assume just because it is new it is ok? I am more likely to look at something I have not explored yet (i.e float bowl sediment) and if still unresolved will go back and recheck previous work and parts. But your point is well taken. I did not think the fuel pump or filter as likely since I could drive on flat and slight grades, and normal acceleration with no issues. but will leave no stone unturned. What he is saying is that in simply doing a major tune-up in a logical step by step fashion (by the book), you would undoubtedly discover the cause (or causes) of your problem. Loopy Chris says .Not quite sure if I can get the ariel lead underneath the car as I think( could be totally wrong though and I've got the wrong end of the stick!) to be legal in this country, it has to be a certain distance ( im talking a fair space here , not a couple of inches) from any fuel tank or line , in case it causes a spark or something. David... One other advantage of "burning it out" is a nice (steam) cleaning of the combustion chamber. Of course, if it really runs badly a draining procedure (per David) is definitely in the cards. Chris, I don't know what a Din is but if you take the size of your radio opening to the store with you just ask for a radio/cd player that will fit. I am sure any store will open the package and show you the paper template to see if it will fit. Usually there is a bezel of some sort that allows the same radio to fit many size openings. Make sure to measure how much distance you have to the rear of the radio also, not just the front opening. Actually, several interesting options. Most radio/CD combo... MORE
Listers - (sounds like something you call people after a night on a booze cruise) I finally got my car home, created a folder in the photo section ("Ricks 75") and uploaded a photo... Figured out what caused the PO from finishing the restoration, he had snapped 2 bolts off while removing the passenger side front shock for some reason, soaking in WD40 for a couple of days and small amount of heat and the stubs came right out. Hi I looked in my book by Porter, " 'Frogeye' Sprite - Super Profile" and on page 50 there are two pictures of a cherry red Frog with a red interior. The interior seems to match the paint well. Been out driving at night with the new speedo/rev counter lights. Speedo good using original lamp holder with 2.2w bulb in the 12 o/clock hole previously covered with a plastic cap and a 5w bulb in a ford cortina MK 2 side light holder in the 4 o/clock position. Be even better if it were not for the sky blue colour introduced by the inside of the housing being painted this colour. Rev counter better using a 5w bulb in a ford cortina MK 2 side light holder instead of the original but still dark in the 4000 region... MORE
Guy There is a series of Home Workshop books covering everything, one on the Lathe, one on soldering and brazing, one on heat treating metals, one on the driling machine, one on casting etc must be 20 of them. shop and see though. I was wondering about that, but don't know where to get a replacement window. I've never seen them offered for sale. I suppose the top could be unstitched around the window, the old window removed and used as a template for a new window out of some kind of clear plastic. Has anyone tried repairing a cracked window with some kind of clear glue? You're probably right, for the cost involved it is probably the cheapest in the long run to just buy a new top. Evan, Go to TAP plastics if you have one near you. They have two thickness of clear vinyl that will work for replacement. The thinner is easer to use for an old top as it is more fixable and costs only a few dollars for enough to do several windows while the thick stuff sold as window replacement is about 22.00 for only enough for one window and if you make a mistake you are out that much. The thin is the same substance only thinner but very just as strong and very cheap. Is your present one sewn... MORE
Hi folks, I just joined this list. I have two Midgets, a '76 and a '70. The '76 is my daily driver. The '70 is not running; I bought it from a guy cheap, he said the engine was frozen. The back plastic window is cracked on my '76 although the rest of the top is in good shape. Is there any way to repair or replace this window without having to replace the entire top? Robbie, I think the start point is to loosen the little pinch bolts on the throttle and the choke connecting rods, so that the two carbs can move independently. Then check that the piston in each will lift and drop back down again cleanly, without catching or sticking. If not, then loosening and re-tightening the two screws that hold the piston chamber on may help to centre it. More likely you will need to centre the jets. There is a special tool but it realy isnt necessary. Just loosen the larger (upper) nut on the jet by a half... MORE

Rob C. "Stickyness" IS usually the sign of a jet (or slightly bent needle) not exactly centered. SU makes a "Tuning Tool Set" ($15?) which has a jet centering tool which will line this little critter up perfectly. If this doesn't free things up, most likely a slightly bent needle, then. It is important to keep the same suction valve with the same suction chamber. I am told these are "matched" at the factory. There should be no sticking between valve and chamber when these parts are clean of all varnish/fuel deposit which may have accumulated over use/time. Cap'n.... MORE
I have a 73, and a 74. They had only sat for about a year each, however I did have a 62 that the previous owner had run since 1987 and then only for a couple of months, almost 22 years total except for that short period . . . There are things you can count on fixing and replacing when they sit that long . On the 73 I disconnected the fuel line from the float bowls, stuck it in a jar and turned on the key to activate the fuel pump to see how the fuel was... MORE
