Terry, ask them! When I was insured through MGOC (Lancaster Ins.) for my 1500, I put in a fast road cam, LCB exhaust, overdrive gearbox and oil cooler. I notified them and they said it made no difference to the premium. Guy "Guy Weller" 31365... MORE
If your not in the US and you are talking about the 2TG and 3TG then your looking for a T-50 transmission from a 71-77 Celica. If your in the US then the only problem is that the US 71-77 Celica didn't come with the 2TG. The 74-83 Corolla came with that engine and tranny. Yeah. It probably will handle good that way...:) I live in an area that has steep drive ways and I like my cars "looowww". The two things never mix so that's why Im going air ride. I haven't ran my Midget yet with the air ride suspension. Iv only had the car for about 8 months and 4 of those months its been in my shop being "tricked out". I don't think so, Tom. Considering what you paid, if it's in the decent mechanical shape claimed, I think you did OK for what you paid, personally. I owned a de-smogged '72 until a certain girl ran a Stop sign one night and her insurance co. put me into a new Fiat 1/9. Pull the head and shave it to bring the Comp. Ratio up to no more than 9.5-1, (mine was 10-1 but we had "manly" gas available at that time!:) and purchase a set of 1.75 HS4's suitably calibrated as in Stage 1 of the Special Tuning... MORE
Bill, the normally transverse fwd engine is fairly do-able - the K series transplants popular in the UK are mostly from fwd applications - it's the rwd gearbox to match up with it that is then the tricky part; or more precisely, how you adapt the gearbox to the engine. If it's not a popular conversion, it might need some advanced engineering skills to make the adaptor bits. Not quite sure what you mean by the front portion of a fwd drive assembly, but I assume you mean the complete engine/gearbox/final drive/driveshafts? if so, that'd be quite a bit... MORE
Bill, It all depends on what you want. To keep the original spirit of the car, with "Sprightly" driving...(pun intended) and handling the Datsun 5 speed and 1275 A motor is the most popular. I haven't heard you mention the Mazda rotary. If you want to go fast and handle, that is a great way to go. 225 to 275 hp and about the same weight equals "WAY BEYOND OH SH*T"!!! I tried to post this earlier today from work, but I think it got lost in cybersomewhere.... Still looking at alternatives for my'69 Sprite, with bad trans. Maybe adding a bit more horsepower in the process of fixing the transmission. I have found some sites with Toyota engine and trans combo swaps, and a few Datsun engine and trans swaps. Of course, the most common dats 5 speed trans, using spridget engine and rear end. I also saw giant engine transplants, big honkin V8's and some V6's with variable combinations. After 10 LONG years, I'm on the road!!!!! Drove about 145 miles (top down of course) today. I had forgotten just how much fun these cars are. Now I remember why I have worked so hard on the thing. The 5 speed from Paul A is nothing short of amazing. It completely transforms the car, all for the better. I will never own one without the conversion. Jim I'm not sure on this one, but as I've been reading the comments it suddenly came to me. I used to have a Ford Mondeo over here and I'm pretty sure you had to lift that to put it into reverse. Now, as I said, I may well be wrong, but that Mondeo box I think is the same basic 5 speed box as used in the Ford Sierra that preceeded it -and I'm pretty sure that Sierra box forms the basis of a lot of 5 speed conversions. Value It's worth what a seller can get for it and what a buyer wants to pay. Not much help I know . Look on our Websites for sale and wanted page for US price indication. Have you ever heard of a 5 speed trans that you have to lift up on the shifter to enter reverse? Yes I have , we have one on our pool car fleet, but I'll be blowed which car. Well Friday night I charged up the Midget battery and took it for the first spin of spring. The new Yokohamas are great and I live the wider chrome wire wheels! The tires stick out past the fenders (wings Nigel) about an inch or so, or just enough for that "hod rod" look I'm going for. Of course, I'd forgotten the fuel guage only goes a little below half a tank when it's empty, so I had an unexpected walk this morning, only about three blocks, but I've gotta boil out that tank I bought and see if the... I just had my Master Cylinder resleeved by Apple Hydraulics in NY. I haven't put it back together yet so I can't testify to how it will work, but the work certainly looks good and they were very prompt with the service. Also, I had rounded the face getting the pistons out (don't ask!) and they milled it flat for me again at no charge. Jim "JTMCO" 31017... MORE

A lot of us on the west coast use Sierra Specialty Automotive. http://www.brakecylinder.com/ Good people and good work. I don't know what your master cylinder is, single or dual, but they did my dual 3/4" with SS for $100. In the Uk a new cylinder costs about =A330 ($50) and there aren't that many different types so all are easy to get hold of. I also almost always get away with a =A310 rebuild kit unless it has seized as a result of having been standing for many years. It can be a reliable daily car if you look after it.. I ran a 1959 frogeye from 1998 to 2001 as my only car, clocking up in the r egion of 40K in that time. The car was not a prime example when I started and its still not a prime example. It had been modified, (1275, ribcase box , Disk front brakes, later diff, 3.9:1, Fiberglass bonnet,). Mainly to save the steel bonnet, and make it a truly usable car, which it was. In the 150 0 already has most of these parts. I did service it... MORE
Ben, My 1500 has Peco exhaust, oil cooler but no magnetronic ignition or kenlowe fan, from Nov 2002 until Oct 2003 it was in daily use and i covered 15000 miles in that time as well as several large jouneys includng Le Mans and back which all told was 1000 miles in 4 days. (I'm in the UK) My car is far from perfect but regular and pre-emtive maintainance is the key to reliablility. Once you've ironed out all the faults that the previous owners failed to take care of (in my case my own brother!) its pretty easy... MORE

Jim- I will keep you posted. I am "down" to about 200 lbs but am over 6' tall. Ingress and egress is not a problem, but the movement of my foot from gas to brake is difficult. It would be impossible if my feet were bigger than size 8! Your idea about "relaxing the webbing underneath is excellent. I will give it a try. I plan on adding to the metal clips so I can tighten them as needed in the future. Talked with a friend of mine who does a lot of restoration work. He explained the different... MORE
