Wimpy.... There are 1500 owners who would very much like to be in your shoes with your 1275 driveline set-up, believe me!! When YOUR transmission goes, you can at least exchange it for the readily available, easily installable Datsun 210 conversion for about what it costs for a rebuilt British ribcase at today's prices. AND, you have the benefit of already having the higher geared 3.7 diff. as well (most likely) which came stock in the later 1500 Spridgfires. But of course in the UK most of these have different names, and some - like the "sidemarker lamps" don't exist at all! And a "quarter light" as in the original thread topic, is nothing to do with Mr Lucas. The term light refers to a window or pane of glass - as in Elizabethan buildings with "leaded lights", "skylights", "fanlight", "borrowed lights" etc. Remember these are LBCs. Actually, I think everyone should stick with the British naming of parts and drop all references to hoods when you mean bonnets, rotors when you mean discs, fenders when you mean... MORE

Needed a clutch slave cyl kit. From Moss it's 20 bucks including shipping, takes 3 days. At Advance Auto it's eight bucks, overnight. Advance has lots of mechanical parts for Spridgets, so it's always worth checking before sending money to Mo$$. "Jeffrey Holmes" 22814... MORE

I have to give some background prior to my question. Last Wednesday, I was running around in my stock 65 Sprite. Cornering a bit more spirited than most, the car feels nice and in control, no worries. Next day, I am going through town, thinking to myself how good this car has been running. The thought crosses my mind, I wonder what will go wrong next, so that I hopefully can beat it to the punch. No such luck, within a mile of that thought, my left rear tire blows out. My 1973 Midget occationally have starting problems. It will fire and run for a couple of strokes, just enough to disengage the starter, then it stops and the starter turns freely. When it starts (and keeps running) ir runs just fine. I have also noticed that the starter runs slower if the clutch pedal is pressed when attempting to start. Ketil.. Fires a couple of times: Does this occur more in wet rather than dry weather? Fr'instance, when was the last time you renewed ignition wires, etc. If it is not humidity related but rather temperature related, then amount of "choke" may require adjustment. Consider: Not continuing to run for the initial start can often be a blessing in disguise with respect to initial oil pressure, whether the filter you are using is equipped with an anti-drainback valve or not. Early gearboxes on these cars have plain rather than needle bearings on first gear. If you want to keep things original then you can either get the box rebuilt for a few hundred $ (or do it yourself). Or with a few very minor and reversable mods you can fit a so called ribcase (for obvious reasons) box from the later Sprites and Midgets up to '74. Essentially the same box but with a stronger casing and better internals. If you are going to keep the power more or less std and only use it a few thousand miles... MORE
I have read all your reply's. You guys really know these cars. I have only owned this BE for four months. I Drained the tranny, was very dark almost black. Refilled , with no change. "If memory serves..." Hi, Dave... That's what I thought I read, also. So figure it's a first gear problem and suggested consideration for Datsun box 'cause you know this Spridget box is probably contaminated with metal anyway considering the "wear" before the gear finally gets really noisey, so just getting a rebuilt "replacement" would probably be the way to go with such a situation. Michael...BTDT....bad feeling...$$$$$$$ How would you like it if basically, you would never have to worry about this again, especially in consideration of today's prices on rebuilt LBC gearboxi? Datsun 210 5 speed: Better ratios, especially for a 948/1098 Better acceleration & better cruise Synchro. on First Very much more quiet running And when and if you do have a problem (not likely), rebuilts are $500 instead of $1.000.
