My Brother-in-law just bought a 72 Citroen DS 21, the gauges are Jaeger Electronique. . . . It like ridding on air sitting on overstuffed living room couches. It has a central hydraulic system that runs the suspension, transmission, power steering and brakes . . . an inch and a half round red warning indicator is in the center of one of the gauges labeled "STOP", needless to say it is the hydraulic failure indicator. I have a restored 60 Bugeye that I bought from a P.O. that had stripped, primmered the body, and installed the disc brakes, rear end, and brake system(new), had the engine, transmission, rear end rebuilt, bought ALL NEW chrome and glass for the car. Biff... The combusion chambers came stock with a certain cc capacity from the factory. This then, is the important number in terms of what is used for figuring compression ratio along with other factors of course. Well....Big Bob.... I cannot source this engine number but... "ass-u-me" ing a high compression 948, the U standing for remote change gearbox "over here". A standard set of Spridget 1.25 SU's with AN needles and blue springs should work very well, I would think. Thing is, you would want this on the better flowing Cooper twin intake manifold if at all possible instead of the stock Spridget (worse flowing) type. And then, the carb mounting angle might be just different enough that use of the Cooper intake manifold might require a little fetteling under there to get proper clearance... MORE
I just finished putting the tranny and engine together, and will be putting it into the car presently. I know many times that a common electrical problem is the ground strap from the engine to the body. I have not had that problem, but then I still have the original bracket that bolts at the bottom of the tranny bell housing and fixes to the "frame" rail. Would anyone like photos of my setup, for future reference, or to try and manufacture a bracket on their own? I have one on the bench for my Bugeye, that I can... MORE
After fitting a pair of new outer sills to the 1972 midget the plan was to use the old sills as a template for the M I D G E T letters since the new sills did not have these holes. I would then scan it in, tidy it up and print it off. I would email it to anyone else who wanted it. I was going to stick it on with wall paper paste so I could soak it off when finished. OK...went to Autozone and had this choice....Castrol "Manual Clutch Fluid" or Castrol DOT 4 ABS brake fluid. I didn't see anything LMT- GA. Is that the same as the manual clutch fluid? Don't worry. I didn't buy anything yet. "Virginia" 26001... MORE

Turbo head is not very different to the standard 1275 head. You will need the turbo pistons though. This will lower the compression ratio. they are also forges rather than cast and as such stronger Stewart "Ford Prefect" 25769... MORE
if i was to use a metro turbo on my midget, changed to a turbo head and used and intercooler and water injection would i be able to use the standard compression ratio or would this melt the engine? cheers Rob "Robert EADES" 25764... MORE

SUV's aside, our oil consumption alone for commercial transportation, including our airline (both public and corporate) for one day is unreal, relatively speaking, So, relatively speaking we get low, low prices accordingly. If the average joe is already paying a 48% tax rate, then funding isn't the problem. How we are spending what we have IS. Tax or no tax, our government would find OTHER ways to spend it. If my memory serves me correctly, your car is a Mk2 Midget with the dual master cylinder. This means that if you lose fluid from the brakes, the clutch stops working properly and I think this is the first thing to check. The chances are, if you can't see fluid leaking anywhere, that the rear wheel cylinder could be faulty. I hope that I am wrong but have a careful look. R. "Roger Stinson" 25702... MORE

Until I get the transmission from the 68 repaired, I have dug through the extras in shed. I started with the latest one that came out of a 65 Midget, that had not been on the road in over 20 years. The shifter would not move, and the input shaft was almost locked. I put an old yoke on the back and gave it a bit more pressure and got it to move. I forced the shifter into all gears, and got a nice positive, firm movement on front and rear shafts. The thing that concerned me was the... MORE
Whilst it may not be the trouble in this case, it is possible for broken bits of bearing cage or other unrequired detritus to find its way into the holes in the casing that allow the change rods to move back and forwards. If this happens, the gearbox may be stuck in gear or not go into gear at all. had the problem on one of my cars. Not fun, but it is quite 'do able' R "Roger Stinson" 25698... MORE
Hey Roger...I haven't noticed anything leaking and haven't noticed anything wrong with the brakes. FOr the clutch to go out that suddenly after a hard brake struck me as odd. Usually you have more warning that you're having clutch issues. At least in my comanche you do. I'll check fluid levels when I leave work today. The clutch uses DOT 4? vleonard@... 25703... MORE
I was driving to work this morning no problem. A little chilly but that's all. I had to break hard at one point to keep from running the red light. After that, I couldn't put the clutch into first gear any longer and had trouble getting it into second. When I'd slow down to a stop the car would rumble a little. If I took it out of gear it's settle down but I'd really have to work to get it back into second. Would a hard brake make my clutch go out? Could it be something else? When... MORE
Hi, Gingerino.... On a real hard "brake", any weak point in the brake system (wheel cylinder, etc) may "give way", emptying out to one extent or another, a goodly portion of the hydraulic fluid in the master cylinder reservoir, wherein clutch and brake systems share fluid. If this is the case, you may spot a hydraulic fluid leak under the car where it's been parked for a while. Otherwise, check the fluid level in the Master Cylinder in any case. If your car runs separate hydraulic systems for clutch and brake, then think back......did the clutch go "in" before,... MORE
