Hello all, I'm looking for information on how the emissions controls are configured on a 77. Specifically how the Air pump & EGR valve are setup. Right now on mine the air pump feeds though a check valve directly to a connector on the tail end of the exhaust manifold. Did that year have a diverter or gulp valve? The EGR valve is missing. Did it have one? How was it hooked up? There is an elbow connector on the air intake manifold that isn't hooked up to anything. I've been looking at pictures of engines on the web,... MORE

In the process of checking out the clutch slave cylinder linkage I reached up to move aside the ground strap a bit to have a better view. The strap is from the lower clutch slave cylinder bolt to the chassis frame, the normal original configuration. It appeared to be a full strap, although covered with oil and dirt as they often are. A gentle push and it moved aside in two pieces, only a few strands were left under the dirt and oil and they parted under the least amount of pressure . . . Nothing can be taken... MORE

Hi Don, This could be the clutch, but I don't think so. If it were, you have some trouble, even if only occasionally, with second or one of the synchro gears as well. What you describe is probably caused by you first motion shaft continuing to spin even when the clutch is disengaged. With no synchro, there is nothing to slow the spinning non-synchro gear. My interpretation is that the first motion shaft is kept spinning by the pilot bushing or bearing. Could be a burred up bearing/bush (some 1275's has a phosphor bronze bushing, some had a needle... Actually this sounds normal if its just a slight crunch as you select 1st or reverese.. As the 4 speed box attached to the A-Series has not syncro on first or reverse.. and never did have. the 1500 boxes IIRC have syncro on all 4 forward gears, can't remember about reverse. After some thought here is what I think, since you have no problems with any gear when the car is not running, and the only link to the engine from the transmission is the CLUTCH than I say its the clutch . You have no problems starting the car in first or reverse and you can drive the car in first and reverse so the transmission must be OK or at least in good shape. It takes a good clutch release to engage 1st and reverse. Just a logical thought... good luck . crfkingfish@... 24457... MORE

I have a transmission problem, or clutch, and would like some feedback on what I should look for as the possible problems. It is in the 73 rwa, 1275, ribcase trans. It was not driven for about a year prior to my purchasing it. I have trouble shifting into first and reverse most of the time with the engine running, then for brief periods of time strangely it will shift fine into first and reverse without any gear noise. I have bled the clutch lines and it looks like the travel at the slave is enough to disengage the... MORE

"Aldon Distributors" Aldon did a PerTronix equipped 45D mechanical curve for my 8.3-1 motor, based upon a planned (Judson) 6psi boost curve. Less than $300 including shipping. Bill Perry got the dizzy. In checking it on a distributor machine, it did not match the written curve provided. Bill shipped the dizzy up to me in CT so Pete Sachs guys could check it out on their machine(s). Sure enough....wrong curve. Shipped it back to Aldon after trading e-mails. Returned in a heartbeat with the "correct" curve...Aldon paid all shipping costs (by Air..both ways). Morals: 1.Check this part as you... MORE

Nigel I think the 'reclining' seats came in with the 'leylandised' version with the split and narrower bumpers. I will look and see if I can find the original sales literature to confirm this. Several of my friends had 1275 engines, without the recliners. R. "Roger Stinson" 24420... MORE

On the Mk2 Midget (Mk3 Sprite) with the 1098 engine and the D I Y hood kit, the ignition and the boot key were definitely different key patterns, with different keys. That is how they left the factory. R "Roger Stinson" 24419... MORE

First thing to do is to make sure the standard system is work at its peak efficiency. Give the system a good flush, you may need to use a flushing product though sometimes a good flush by taking all hoses off and shoving the hosepipe into any orifice you can will do the trick. An electic fan will certainly help. Gives you an hp or two more, helps the car warm up quicker and provides better cooling when in traffic. IMHO an electric fan works better as a puller not a pusher i.e. between the engine and the rad.... MORE

It took me 14 months after I bought my Bugeye, BUT, the P.O. had stripped and primed the car, had the engine, transmission, and rear end rebuilt. All I had to do was paint, find seats, (recover) and totaly assemble the car. Bob. Troutdale, OR USA "Robert Webb" 24401... MORE

yes, I've got one, but it's in the car and you can't have it! is the A+ one you have got modifiable to fit the earlier block? (I can't remember the exact differences - is it just the clamping fork thing or the drive shaft as well?) David "David Jacobs" 24396... MORE

Yikes!! That's scary...hmmmm, I have a Corvette LT1 engine, presently in a Cadillac Fleetwood. I could do a double engine swap and have a 10 mph Caddy and a 200 mph Bugeye which would kill me... "Jeffrey Holmes" 24398... MORE

Chris It really does depend on what you're going to do and the standard of finish you want. Without knowing these things it's kinda hard to estimate a time frame. I thnk I read somewhere that for a ground up, nut and bolt rebuild you're looking at about 2,000 hours which is about 5 years worth part time. It's a balance between what you do yourself and what you farm out, but 2 1/2 years does seem a little optimistic to me. Nigel "amukdigiphoto" 24387... MORE

When I bought this lovely thing 10 years ago, I thot it was the right one - anyone got an Aldon Yella for a pre A+? (71 Midget 1275) This one's been fondled, but never mounted. I gather Aldon quit making them due to probs getting parts from Lucas. This lists at $300 and the pre at $280. Can we talk? Well I've gone and done it..the '60 is coming apart. Engine and trans are out in preparation of a complete refurb. At the very least this will include new inner and outer sills, maybe floors and possibly rear spring boxes. Paint will be redone and interior gone thru. I have a 1275 and ribcase waiting to be rebuilt and installed, along with Weber sidedraft etc. I am seeking suggestions on cams, porting and header. This will be a "quick" street car, neither a daily driver nor a "road racer." Any advice will be appreciated. At this point my proposed... MORE

I get confused between the Speedwell and Sebring labels as there is a strong similarity beyween between certain versions. I get the impression that the Speedwell is a later slightly modified version of the Sebring, but I'm not certain and donlt have the time now to research it. I;d welcome any clarificatuins from anyone who has more info. Colin's IS just like the Speedwell version, but I thiunk the only differences are in the mouth vents.
