Hi, The PO of my car damaged the hood hinge arms and tried badly to repair them. I have now repaired them to a better state but they are both different sizes. If somebody has their arms removed from a MK4 could you please measure the distance from the hinge pin point to the fwd mounting bolt. depending what car the rear axle came off, it will only be a bolt-on fit one or the other of your cars - the quarter elliptic rear suspension of the frogeye had slightly different spring mounts on the axle casing when compared with the later semi elliptic springs. Hi Bill B, There are 2 4 speeds that you can use. One is the same size as the 5 speed and is found in all the years of the 210 and any of the B210 years with a 1400 engine. The other is a smaller one in configuration, but bolts and mounts exactly the same as the 5/4 speeds. It will be found in ANY of the B210, 1300, and 210 WITH a 1200 engine. This trans is wonderful. Even spacing on all the gears and shifts like glass. I have one in my van and love it.... MORE

Thanks Don - the radio shack behind the dash idea is a good suggestion, rather than putting a hole in the dash. The lighter is listed as an option in the manual, so I am guessing there might even be existing leads ready to connect. Rather than go from the battery or fuse box, I was thinking I would want to hook it up to a point in the circuitry after the accessories key switch (does my car even have an accesories key switch?) so that when my car was off, any portable device left plugged in would not... Chris... I think it's strictly a matter of waiting for the "right" person to come along (ebay?). The 10cc (2" main) is the "preferred" engine for those restoring originally equipped 1098 machines. It is also the smoothest running Series A (IMHO). They've got a silky smooth, "sweet" exhaust note not found in the more "square" motors. My BE came equipped with a "10cc". Kevin, I do not think, or I have never seen a 1965 Midget with a lighter. Do not see any photos in the Terry Horler book. However, on later models the cigar lighter is located on the front right of the radio console. If the sole purpose of the lighter socket is for power for portable devices then any generic 12V cigarette lighter socket will work and no need for the actual lighter unit. You could mount the socket out of sight behind the dash or just below it. Radio Shack has several different sockets one with an angle... MORE

Bob, Guilty as charged. On my BE, all of the slots on the screws that hold the aluminum tub trim have to be dead on horizontal. In places where nobody can ever see, I might use an odd fastener that doesn't match the others... but it will bother me when I do. Places that can be seen - I've written down on my shopping list to get one more stainless 1/4-28 bolt so that they all will match. Cable tie tails on wire bundles have to point in the same direction - even though they're cut off anyways. Hose... MORE

Should there be any sideways slack on the bolt in each end of the radius arms or should they be tight. I have just fitted new arms and they have rather a big sideways slack/movement on the bolts each end. Should i make up some spacers to rid the slack. Thank you for your responses By Modern driving I am assuming that they are talking about fast road and motorway driving 60-80 mph. I'm not sure exactly what rpm she'd be doing at that speed but I would imagine that it would be around the 4000+ mark. Given what has been said then in 90F summer heat an oil cooler would be very beneficial for fast use. However I wouldn't take the Midget onto the motorway for the same reasons that I wouldn't take the Cooper onto the motorway 1. It is too small and vulnerable 2. It is... MORE

Listers - My current project Midget (75) has no motor or trans, I'm searching for alternate powertrains to transplant into it, does anyone have photos, info or web sites they have run across on hot rodded Midgets they could pass along to me? Currently have a Ford 2.0 litre 4 cylinder with matching 4 speed, but looking at other options, plan on looking around for a 2.3L Ford 4 cyl with a five speed, which could be transplanted without too much hassle. Ford 2.3L turbo motor would be nice too, but don't want to spend a ton of cash,... MORE

Hi all I have just received an excellent Spridget catalogue from MOSS that not only lists all of their parts but is also a tuning guide as well. In there they recommend that for modern driving a 1500 would really benefit from a thermostatically controlled oil cooler, uprated relief spring and a supplementary rocker oil feed kit. This is apparently due to the Spitfire engine being mated to the "wrong gearbox" and subsequent over revving leading to the oil thinning and thus pressure dropping. James... Anything you can do to "cool" a motor which is otherwise running at a normal temperature extends service life. Yesterday's petroleum oils got by on viscosity more than film strength. Today they get by on both, more or less, while synthetics go more with film strength than viscosity for superior lubrication, inclusive of their ability to maintain superior film strength at higher operation temperature than the most modern of petroleums. Oil which is "overcooled" does not perform as well as oil running at "proper" temperature...thus the oilstat. However, one must monitor the oilstat for proper operation and thus,... MORE

I do not know the definitive answer to these questions for a frogeye, but - on my midget, which is pretty much the same as far as engine compartment painting is concerned, 1. left unpainted.2 ditto. 3 Painted. 4 Painted, except for starter nose inside clutch bell. 5. unpainted 6. unpainted 7. painted 8. Painted. water pump, painted. Cooling blades? Buick / Rover v8 same engine fitted into MGB V8 Perhaps ? Chap I work with was in the develpment when the engine came over for evaluation. In its stock form gave about 93 bhp (exact figures may not be correct) . After Rover had developed (at great expense) it for Brit use, the power was down to 84 bhp. yup - all aluminium, so it's nice and light, and it WILL fit in a Spridget (just) - in it's later Rover 3.5 form, it has been done a few times. And I agree on removing the spring, I took mine out with the engine still in the car, so didn't have that problem, but did when I tried to refit - had to use the long bolts method. David Because as I already said - they're NLA when I tried to order them - in other words - No Longer Available, otherwise I'd have ordered them. Fortunately, I was able to get them all off without damaging them, and kept them like I do with everything else I take of the car - just in case I can't get replacements - in this instance it seems just as well! For some weird reason, I could only find 7 of the bolts - not sure where the 8th one got to, so I've cleaned them up and re-used... MORE

Dave Yes, that is one of those little design things with these cars. You have to loosen up the box, try to loosen up the screws/bolts but do not remove them except for possibly the 2 at the furthust end near the switch. Beware! of installing the new switch. If you ordered a replacement one from one of the usual places they are such inferior crap that you stand a good chance of breaking it trying to put it in. So go slow and don't let the wires get all twisted up or they may break off. Like mine... MORE
