No everything is the same. The only thing that changes is the stick position and of course which are you stick out the window :) After some practice it is quite easy to swap back and fore between LHD and RHD cars though saying that I drive the RHD on the left side of the road when in the UK. Actually, Chuck.... .milling the head is preferred over flat-tops or domed pistons (as explained in your Vizard book, BTW) as a way of bringi ng the CR up a bit. With all due respect....strongly suggest you read the book...from cover to cover..... BEFORE (not after) you build your motor!!!! :):) Fr'instance....an understanding of the sections on cams will allow YOU to choose the best cam for your application, without input from others (though of course we are always at your disposal, obviously!!:). Hi all,I am building a 59 bugeye with a datsun 5 speed and parts from a 72 midget.The 1275 is a smog head 72 motor and I was just wondering if anybody knows a mild street way to build this motor.I would like a mild street cam ,am planing on a header and punching the block 20 over.I have the vizards book but its a lot to digest.He says MG metro pistons work fine but thats only 8.8 to 1 cr.I think I would like to have about 10 to 1 C.R..I don't think My motor has ever been... Anyone remember a model # for the Isuzu trooper starter that is supposed to fit a Spridget? I seem to remember this was a bolt in substitution. I installed the pertronix night before last, but the engine wont turn over fast enough to fire. I've changed just about everything but the starter, so I guess that's next. how about if you only fit the inner one of each pair of bushes in each leg of the arm (if you see what I mean!), then when it is on the car, fit the steel sleeve and the bolt, then fit the second bush and sleeve through the hole in the chassis mounting. You might then need to use a screw clamp to squeeze the bush in before you can get the washer and nut on. It's tight, but it should go on this way. David "David Jacobs" 35699... MORE
Hello all: This Question is about my '68 Sprite "Rosa" - 1275cc Is it possible that the timing chain jumps a teeth on any of the sprockets when it gets worn? I have my engine out of the car for an unrelated issue (replaced the starter ring gear =96 different story) and noticed that the notch in the crankshaft pulley is about 15 deg past the TDC mark when the nr. 1 piston is at TDC. I checked the posiiton of the nr. 1 piston visualy through the spark hole, and by using a wire and am quite sure... MORE

Jim... Crane is an excellent, reliable system. Used them for years (before the self-contained PerTronix came on the scene) on " tuned" Vizardized 1340 Spridget and "upgraded" 1600cc VW Bug. Sure a cold box is worth fitting, Jens. Not a new car out there that hasn't got one. Jacques LaClainche's website shows his BE with a cold air box. Looks like a sealed "mailbox" with holes cut in the appropriate place for the carbs and a "heater" hose ducted to the front by the grille (but on the carb. side). Very practical, very functional. Spence - Guess that would be me, progress has slowed due to cold weather (hard to heat the garage with a small space heater) and the holidays and all, the frame strengthening is almost finished and I'm gathering parts to begin construction on the headers & steering. I've finally removed a complete motor from a donor car, up until now I've been using a junk block and heads to fab the mounts, I hope to finish the frame rails in the next couple of weeks and get the motor & trans back in the car, I'll take a few... Hi Spence, It is the worst part. The engine is sweet and the interior has been well looked after. The front wings are new ones. It came with a van load of spares inc 6 wire wheels hub and 3.91 diff. New door and bonnet. I paid =A3300 for the lot so i am very happy with it. I am keeping the rostyles on it and selling the wire wheels and bits that go with it. I finally tried fitting the 12" mini wheel. As you said fine on the rear, but no good on the front it did foul the ball joint and the studs aren't long enough to fit the wheel back to front. Yeah... California has really gone over the top on classic car "emissions". It's all part of a political agenda in this particular respect, obviously. Has nothing to do with air polution really. I mean my Vizardized '74 1340 almost made it by CT emissions and was only "out" by 50 ppm hydrocarbons or less than .05 CO, depending upon which side of the correct ignition timing we chose to go. And this thing had a VP3 cam, 45DCOE and got 90+hp to the rear wheels. When properly tuned and maintained, most emissions non-equipped vehicles can get by the criteria... MORE
Nology Hotwires.... exactly, Spencer...without 3rd party empirical data, I don't tend to "believe" either. if Vizard hadn't tested them, I wouldn't have spent the bucks....they're not inexpensive. But they do last a long, long time. They are very well built and I can tell you from experience they will burn off oil on spark plug tips, even in engines burning a quart every in <500 miles. You'll still get crusty brown carbon deposits that will eventually fill the gap and "short", but you won't be getting wet oil fouling at all, assuming compression is reasonably decent. I bought and fitted a pair of inertia reel seat belts sold by the MGOC that bolt to the wheel arch. They adjust in orientation so they are in the correct plane to work. They are only on cars originally fitted with inertia real seat belts. When I came to repairing the inner rear arches on mine I changed the mountings for of the inertia reel belts. as my car originally had static belts. Had I known what a pain they were going to be to find I would not have bothered, but its too late now. The bracket bolt onto the side of the inner wheel arch, then go to the top of the arch and have a bend so the top part lays flat on the top of the arch, and... MORE
Has any one got the brakets for the inertia reel seatbelts, even better the seat belts themselves. I bought a new set for my car, but they are an adjustable type. The instructons for them tell you to bolt them directly to he side of the wheel arch, and they just look wrong to me, would be better on the proper bracket that goes up and over the inner arch should anyone have a pair flaoting about!. I recently had the pleasure of having dinner with Kevin and Cathy Valentine in Pennsylvania. Over dinner we of course discussed Spridgets, and I told him how I was having trouble with mine running rich and was contemplating a change of carburetors. Kevin pointed out that most carb problems are electrical and asked if I had checked the points. Well, I still haven't but I did decide to make them a moot problem by ordering a Pertronix Ignitor. An excellent question, Robert! And you've beaten me to the punch as well!! My old coil went TU 2 months ago and I put a new Crane unit on my 68 - 1275cc Midget. Works great, but now I am looking at electronic ignition for the Beast. Dunno if the Crane will work with something like the Pertronix or other EI systems. Any input gratefully accepted.... Cheers!! Hi Guys, I decided that I do not plan on using my Hardtop for my 73 midget. It need to be cleaned since it sat in a desert for 17 years, the rear plastic window is pretty shot, and the rubber is ugly, but there are no cracks, etc. I have it in storage now, and I would love to have it go for a good cause.
