Hi all, Another new member here, but I already have one post to my name concerning a good spot to sell my Midget (we like to callher Prudence). Well, I've tried the eBay route to no avail and also Craiglist here in the bay area, so I thought I would try here on the board. Anyway, Prudence has a new top, and the seats have been redone. I misunderstood. I thought you said it misfires above 2800, when what you actually said is that it misfires AT 2800, but is okay above and below. I'm pretty sure this is a carburation problem wherein at a certain rpm there is a strange harmonic set up in the intake manifold and carburetor, which causes erratic, uncontolled movement of the air piston. Try this: Remove the old oil from the piston damper. To do this you'll have to remove the cap and the screws which hold the cover in place. Then remove the piston and it's diaphragm. Be careful,... Welcome aboard, Adam! I have a `78 Midget here in the states. My girlfriend-now-wife used to love it, then a baby came along, so I got a new MINI Cooper S to put the car seat in. Katie & I still do a few rallies in the MG, but now also do some as a "family" in the MINI with our 2 year-old. In a few years, I'll be taking the daughter out for spins in the MG. For now, she just loves to sit in the drivers seat, push all the buttons/switches, and have a blast "driving" her... MORE

It didn't roll yesterday when I set the "rollers" on my 1.5 set-up and hasn't in 42 years so I sorta doubt it, most especially since parking brakes and wheel chocks were "invented". Unless you got a clutch fan, do it my way and you won't need a chock anyway. Just leave it in neutr al and set the parking brake....OK!! If it makes you feel better, put a chock(s) under a wheel....or dead cat(s)! Now, take the damn plugs out so the engine... MORE
Do them .012" (on the loose side)"cold" From the front of the engine... Do 1 with 8 fully open.... Do 2 with 7 fully open.... Do 3 with 6 fully open.... Get the idea...each adds up to 9. Hello, Couple of questions I have hopefully some one can solve them for me. My Car is Uk 1500cc 1976 Midget First my car does not indicate tothe right when the steering wheel is dead straight. The lights does not come up and the dash board and the clicking noise is far more rapid than it should be. However when I turn the steering wheel a small amount in either direction it works fine. ( And i get strange looks when I have to sway across the road so my car will indicate) The left hand indicator works fine.... MORE

I finally replaced my old, rotten seats with leather, but have had a heck of a time mounting the new ones. First, the seats were not marked left or right. I couldn't get the passenger seat to find the holes in the floor, so I moved it to driver side and it seemed to fit better (but not perfectly). I have the slide rails mounted so that the right angles face the middle of the seat and the seat adjustment lever is on the left rail, both sides. Is this correct? Anyone know? Next Wednesday, the B17 and B24 that fly out of Connecticut will land about 2 miles from my house at War Eagles Air Museum, Santa Teresa Airport. For $400 bucks I can get a 30 minute ride on either plane. Anybody done this? Worth it? The 30 minutes is start up to stop, and after gaining altitude and leveling out, passengers are allowed to move about the plane to sample each manned point, with the exception of the pilots seat I assume. If it is the 215 ci all alloy Buick V8 then you can get MG badged rocker covers and twin SUs for it!, it is the exact same engine that became the Rover 3.5 litre V8 and powers most range rovers and the MGB GTV8 hence Moss will sell you some rocker covers with MG cast in them that will bolt striaght on the engine. Although 200BHP stock is proabbly Gross rating, not the modern DIN, probbly more like 150 if you want to use the modern ratings. Even the Twin Plemumn SD1 Rover Vitesse only had 220BHP DIN!... MORE

Well, Dave.... The biggest/best change you can make is to bring up the compression ratio next time you have the head off, unless you're taking it apart for piston/ring replacement. Taking the head from 21cc down to 19cc should be good for just under 8.5-1 and were you to go to 8.8-1 pistons next time around, the combo would be good for between 9.0-9.3-1 or so. You could take the head down to 16.4cc but now you're down to min. thickness for the head (strength, cooling, head-gasket issues, etc.). Besides mechanical stuff, better breathing will help. Hi Aaron, Leave off the lock tabs. Don't use them! They're so soft they tend to give a false reading to the torque/stretch value of the bolts. If you can read the "F" properly. (Not backwards!) on the washer when it's in place, you've got it right. Remember to center the front seal before tightening all the cover bolts. Do it by leaving the cover bolts loose, so the cover will move a bit, then put the front pulley in place. Tighten a couple or 3 bolts, take off the pulley and tighten the remaining bolts. Apparently they changed the seat style midyear because the seats I put in didn't quite fit. What mine calls for are the barrel back instead of the squarer backed seats. I ended up having to drill a few holes in the floorboard. Let me tell you what a pain in the azz THAT was. "Ginger" 36496... MORE

And before someone comes back with "How do you use the pressure relief to prime the pump when the relief drains to the sump?", you do need to use a tapered end funnel or hose end that fits into the relief seat...whoo, that was close. "Jim" 36411... MORE
Which according to Terry Horlers book they don't. How do I know? I have just been to Gaydon and consulted the achives there and have seen the build records for real myself. My car is listed as being Teal Blue, built on the 17th Jan 1975. Whats more there are more than a few Teal blue 1500 if the build records are right. Mine was not the last VIN to be so painted but was the last one dispatched. According to the records it had an autumn leaf interior, all this ties in with what I have on the... MORE

Greetings: I recently purchased a 1960 Bugeye Sprite, and I'm having quite a time figuring out what prior owners did to it. Case in point: On the front timing cover is a canister looking apparatus with one single rubber hose coming out of it. On my car, the hose goes nowhere. What is this thing? stewart you are correct to use 35 amp fuse.i am nearly sure the fuse in question protects indicators,fuel gauge and heater blower and operates when ignition switch is on.i had a similar problem on my 1977 1500 midget and found the problem was caused by worn wires on the indicator stalk shorting. to rectify,unscrew four screws that secure the cowls to the steering column remove lower cowl then move upper cowl in anti-clockwise direction round steering column,depress horn slip-ring contact and ease the cowl off the column.remove clip holding the switch wiring harness to the steering column and disconect...
