...or you could put Fiero seats in the car. Mine have speakers built in to the headrests and I can hear them just fine. And for now they are only getting 20 amps supplied from the Sony CD head unit. Maplins have a web site (maplin.co.uk) and do mail order from it. The wire is quite thick for the panel lights and shoulds easily take the extra load. When I get to Maplin I will buy a holder and a halogen bulb, and try to modify the existing holder. In the past I have smashed up a bulb and mounted the new holder in the screw bit of the old bulb. Now the old bit screws into the original holder and the new bulb goes into the new holder. Got two problems, not a lot of light and bad... MORE
Brad ooooh you're my age, and there was me thinking you were an old fogey like the Cap'n! ;) I'm not with you on the slotted holes for the door panels. What slotted holes? Are you referring to the cut-out section for the internal door latch/lock? Or are you referring to the heat stamped pattern on the vinyl trim itself? I'm not planning on 'replicating' the vinyl trim for the door panel, only the hardboard panel itself, I'll re-use the old vinyl door panels which aren't in bad condition apart from one tiny tear on one of them. Cap'n It's coming on! I've been seriously hampered by the weather here lately, which hasn't been very conducive to spraying! We had snow here a week or so ago, since then its been milder but with that comes rain and wind; very windy here again today. But I've pushed on doing what I can, and the bodyshell with front panel assembly and both wings in position is now about 90% finished in gloss. Alan, I am one of the ones quite keen to brighten up the instrument lighting. When I am driving on rural roads at night I usually switch off all the dashboard lights. I love night driving on empty roads with the cockpit in darkness In fact the high beam warning light really anoys me - it is far too bright at night and I keep meaning to do something about that. Nigel... Yes, this is the season for inclement weather ok. No doubt about it. Over here, the coldest January we've had in the Northeast US in 30+ years, with a goodly amount of snow as well. Terry, On the several that I have dismantled, they have all had mastic between bezel and glass, O-ring between glass and the next ring in, and an 0-ring between the case and the metal dashboard. I don't think there is supposed to be an O-ring behind the metal reflector ring. It is stepped and fits against the rim of the case, leaving a gap between it and the dial face to let the light through. One tip here is that you should save discarded O rings from the rear hubs as these will fit around the tach and speedo... MORE
I am not familiar with the speedo in your vintage LBC but I had a problem with the odometer reset rod in my 62 Sprite. At about a half inch from the body of the speedo there had been a small screw hole through the rod. This was for a small screw that held a shaft extension. Mine broke at that hole leaving what looks like it might be a screwdriver slot. The rest of the rod was not able to be attached. The far end of it had a small knob that is used to reset the odometer.... MORE
Terry... I agree with Nigel asking you why all this for bulb replacement but I will answer to the extent I can 'cause obviously it's already out of the car!! :):) OK... 1. Yes (O-ring, gasket, rubber washer, bit of silicone, whatever! :) 2. Have not seen an O-ring between instrument and panel before. But I don't see why you could not do this, either. 3. Hi I would like to see what speed I am doing in the dark so Speedo is out and apart. 1972 RWA midget Questions Chrome bezel is filled with black gunge at rear, is this the remnants of an 0 ring that seals the bezel to the glass? Is there an 0 ring between the Speedo and dash board? The inside of the Speedo is sky blue from 1 o'clock to 7 o'clock and white for the other half. Is this correct and why? Thanks David, I understand the maths OK, but don't know what rating the dash wiring is de signed to take. There are several bulbs all in parallel on this same circu it as well and the total load is going to go up by more than double. Still OK? Guy "Guy Weller" 29187... MORE
David/Guy, You are correct in what you say BUT the total current in the wire will stil l double if all the bulbs are replaced as each one will be pulling double the current. From the drawings I can see there are around four lamps in the same circuit so the total wire current will go up from 1A total to around 2A. !500 rocker covers are red normally (for some weird reason) mine has the UK spec silver rocker cover, but the rest is a pinkish red,a and metallic, although I have yet to clean it off properly.. Stewart "Ford Prefect" 29151... MORE

All this talk of T.Horlers book on Spridgets made me get my copy out, And I noticed the 1500 RB engines shown in it appear to be painted black with a silver rocker cover, mine isn't, it's a pinkish red metallic colour, not a million miles away from then engine that was in my old 1300 FWD triumph. If it was gold or silver I could understand it, these were recon units. My engine does have remnants of silver paint on the rocker cover though. Dave The situation is a little bit clouded by your choice of seat colours. If my memory serves me correctly, you have the feeling that the car left the factory with a red interior. If that was the case, according to Horler, the change point was HAN8-55625. If on the other hand it was black, then the change point would be HAN8-55373. As you see, these neatly bracket your car. Hi Curtis It depends (don't you hate answers that start like that) on the model of 66 Midget you're referring to. There were two Midgets made in 66, the MkII 1098 version and the MkIII 1275 version. The later MkIII version would accept the hood mechanism you mention no problem as it remained the same from that point to the end of production (as far as I'm aware). However, if you're talking about the earlier MkII version with the 1098 engine, then no it won't fit, as the cockpit was extended to allow for the new folding hood to... MORE
Will a hinged hood (top) off of a 1975 Midget fit on a 1966 Midget? What is required to use the later folding top? The interior three bolt mounting points just front of the wheel wells and? Anyone have a mid 1965 Sprite or Midget with red or black seats with a chassis number either side of H-AN855554 (build date 14th August) and if so what type of seats does it have, as I am beginning to think my car should have buckets. any comments appreciate. Also was it Chris who was changing their bucket seats for something else a while back and if so do they still have them, since I may be interested. I am in the UK about 80 miles north of London. Ed, Bob , Nigel et al Oh yes I want it , but the shipper is sending it as a consolidated shipment so I have to wait until the container is full, I assume it's watertight, it better had be if its going on the deck of a cargo ship .LOL and at the moment my LBG is full of a 72 midget, my carport has my wifes MGF beneath it, and where the frogeye will reside until the midget is back on the road currently has an MG metro there.
