Thanks for the comments Dave. My own car is a '66 midget Mk2. It came with a red interior, and the cowl was also red. The following all refer to the midget Mk numbers. The Mk1 had body coloured turrets. The Mk2 had carpet coloured turrets. I had a friend with a Tartan red that had a red turret and another with a blue midget with a blue turret (as per the original Mk2 brochure in my possession) On the Mk3 the turrets were red for a time when a red interior was fitted, as another club friend of... Roger I have a 65 and a 66 Sprite (both MKIII Sprites) the 66 had no cowl when I acquired her (she had an aftermarket leather cloth thing instead) I fitted a new cowl and painted it black in line with Horler's bible. I have just checked my 65 ( which is a basket case I am rebuilding) and to my surprise it has a red cowl. I even scratched some paint off (hell it will need a respray anyway) and can find no layer of black between the red and bare metal, so you may well be correct.... MORE
I wonder if someone can help me here. I have raised this issue before, and wish to bring it to the attention of 'The People who Know' For Christmas I was fortunate enough to receive a copy of Terry Horler's 'Original Sprit and Midget' which I have thoroughly enjoyed reading. On page 80 next to the Photo' of the dashboard, he states, with regard to Mk2 Midgets, that "The gear lever cowl was now painted black regardless of body colour." Red was a very popular colour for the interior back in '64 - '66, usually with white bodywork. Was yours white? From '67 on Black became the 'colour of trend' for sports cars, and a lot of people actually took the trouble (and expense) of changing them. Both my certificates came with an exact date (maybe it is different for exported cars) although the 66 Sprite was down as an MKIV (not MK III as it should have been) when I phoned them a corrected certificate arrived in a couple of days. Both my Sprites were listed as having red interior trim when built but both had black when I got them. According to Horler red and black were options for the body colours but I find it hard to believe that coincidentally both cars had owners who decided to go to the trouble and expense... MORE
Yeah... Vulcans are (were?) cool...thundrous as they shook the ground you were standing on. You could feel it "in your bones"!! As far as props go....radials...yeah... Besides the Merlin and later Sabre Napiers (Tempests, methinks?) the "choppy" radial (until they "turned up" at which time they began to sound almost "turbine" smooth) are also a favorite. But nothing (IMHO) beats the smell of castor oil and the staccato "brruppp, burrrup" of a rotary operating on a stick mounted ignition "kill switch" or button! :) Very kewl! :):) Cap'n. Lessee! Normally a car will fog up on the inside if pretty much air tight and the driver leaves a warmed interior, closes the the car door and leaves it in cold wx for a while. Or, the car is warm inside after use in the above circumstances and the carpets (floors) are wet. Or the car is left overnight on a humid cool night under the stars with the windows pretty much open. Alan I can't give you a source for fibreglass frogeye rear ends, because I simpl =3D=0D y do not know of any company who makes them, although there are probably plenty about. I do know however that Paul Banham makes a 'Frogeye' replica kit, which is =3D=0D based on a mini 'donor' car and that the Frogeye outer fibreglass panels ar =3D=0D e exactly the same dimensions as the original Frogeye. It may be worth contacting them and asking them if they would be willing to sell the Frogey =3D=0D e rear end separately and if so what the... MORE

Guy Yes I did know of it, but couldn't remember the name of it, all I could remember is that its got a red cover with a couple of yucky pics on it! I've seen a couple go through ebay.co.uk, but they've always gone for more than I was willing to pay (which wasn't a lot!) and from what I can tell it is one mans story of his Midget restoration. Just received a new book I ordered from Amazon. Great detailed color photos of year by year model changes, trim and interior changes and such on all Sprites and Midgets including Innocenti. Alan Well, you reply to my original reply, you make no mention of me in your rep =3D=0D ly, and you ask virtually the same question in your reply as I answered in my reply - I will therefore refrain from making any comment on your eyesight. It's not that difficult to replace the rear end of a Spridget with the rear =3D=0D end of a Frogeye if you do it with a one piece fibreglass rear, although as there' =3D=0D s no boot opening - it means having to crawl into the tiny opening from the cock =3D=0D... Alan Hi and welcome to the list. You've got a couple of problems here, and as I don't know how much you know about Sprites and Midgets I'll try and explain as best I can. Now I may be wrong here, and I'm sure someone will correct me if I am, but =3D=0D the Red Sprite in the Sebring pictures look like its had a front Sebring Bo =3D=0D nnet fitted and a rear fibreglass Coup=E9 fitted. The Silver Sprite in the other p=3D=0D ictures, the one you prefer is in fact a Standard Frogeye Sprite with a Sebring... MORE
Listers I'm looking for a source of stainless pan head upholstery screws. I guess pan head would be the term as the screw I'm looking for is a pan head type sheet metal screw with the "finishing" washer attached to the screw. ( make sense?) Chris Yeah you have to watch those 'unexploded' potatoes, they have a habit of exploding on you when you least expect it! Well it sure seems you're having fun, detonating potatoes and twiddling Alberts knobs! Nigel, Well I lied! The garage ( I built it when we first moved here) is 9' 4", interior, but has a 22" workbench down one side which reduces the available floor space to 7' 6". That was the maximum width garage I could get between the house and our neighbour's wall, whilst retaining a "back passage" (excuse the phrase!) footpath to get to the back garden. Hi everyone. I recently have come across some NOS parts that were from a British inventory buyout. Steve Woohoo! Many congrats. I don't think I am ahead of you Steve, I'm just finishing off the final primer coats on the passenger side wing ready for colour - that will be the last 'bit' on the car that needs to be colour coated. I still have both doors, bootlid and bonnet to colour coat as well. I don't know if you have this book or not - 'Restoring Sprites and Midgets - an Enthusiasts Guide' by Grahame Bristow (Brooklands Books) but it really is a very useful book in terms of reassembly.
