Thanks to all respondents. This search for the right sized audio system is turning out to be a bit more challenging than first thought. Considering max depth of only 5 7/8" for console mounting, there doesn't appear to be anything out there. Pioneer advertises their units to be 5 7/8" depth, but they don't count the additional 1- 2" for the power supply periphery on the back. Since I want to use the console placement, looks like a CD is definitely out. I'm going to look for a JVC AM/FM cassette that Chris N mentioned. Chris, if you have... MORE
I made the panel behind my console out of 3/4" plywood and 1/8" hardboard, then cut a hole in the center of it to give me room for the wires coming ou t of the back of a cheap pioneer cd/stereo unit from WalMart. It looks fine and was not much work at all. I do not know how it would work for a std ribcase, but it works fine with the shifter location on my datsun 5speed. Hi I am in the process of restoring a 1965 MK III Sprite and have bought two new floor panels (I don't think the one piece panel is available any more) I have started cutting back the passenger side floor and have struck sound metal a few inches in from the inner sill and plan to cut my new panel down and weld it to the sound original metal. I have read that the correct way to do this is to overlap the old and new metal and weld a seam top and bottom, the only problem is at... MORE
I am redoing my midget interior now, and am in the market for an appropriately sized, decent-sounding audio system. Not sure if the space allotted in the console is going to accomodate a CD, or if I have to settle for a standard AM/FM/Cassette. Has anyone been through this recently? Many of the replacement switches that fit in the pedal box are of poor quality. And... to get enought clearance to put the switch in, you need to take the pedal box loose. These might be some of the reasons the PO made alternate arrangements. "Trevor Jessie" 31373... MORE
Hi Terry So what you are talking about fitting is basically a stage 1 tuning kit. My Mini has a stage 1 kit fitted, but it really hasn't made much difference to the insurance premium. About =A310 more per annum or something silly like that. If you do the conversion make sure that you get the right carb needles as well, otherwise it will run horribly rich. hi, ever since i got my midget i had always been aware of the brake switch being inside the car right nest to the pedal- i always thought this was kinda strange! But as i have never really 'looked' at anyone elses midget i didn't know NE diffrent!! then the other day i was looking through the old receipts from the car and there was an invoice to the PO charging for a new brake switch and bracket!! Yep... You may have to do a little "fettling" to get fibreglass parts to correctly fit Ben. This is par for the course and should be pretty minimal if you buy from a quality supplier like Speedwell or Winner's Circle, both of whom have been doing these for years. Perfect Plastics is another long time supplier as well, though not sure what parts the presently stock. I myself am going over to a fibreglass bonnet for my Frog. Yeah. It probably will handle good that way...:) I live in an area that has steep drive ways and I like my cars "looowww". The two things never mix so that's why Im going air ride. I haven't ran my Midget yet with the air ride suspension. Iv only had the car for about 8 months and 4 of those months its been in my shop being "tricked out". James, A couple of points about the fact that lead was not introduced untl mid-30's (and then ommitted again during the war years. The lead does 2 things; 1. It "lubricates" the valve stems. This only became necessary as finer tollerances were introduced and engines ran at higher revs. Not critical for many of the earlier side-valve engines. 2. It reduces pre-ignition. Again much less of a problem on early low-compression engines. Hi Ben Converting the head by fitting hardened valve seats is the only proper answer. I take the view that the worst that can happen by using unleaded is a valve buring out, in which case all that needs to be done is to have the hardened seats fitted at that point(and a new valve of course!) The additives are bad news as not only are they expensive but if the car is not used regularly it can form a gunge in the tank and clog up fuel pipes and jets etc. LRP hasn't been available where I live... Just to shed some of my personal experience in this area. I had to tackle this area personally in the last week or so. If you follow some of the parts supplier's diagrams you might end up installing this little pesky item backwards. Best advice is, as always, follow your original repair manual. In my case, it's a Sprite Mark I with a 948 engine. If you stop to think for a moment, and ask yourself, what is the logical purpose for this (oil thrower) item? I love it when a plan works out...so far that is. As I mentioned in an earlier post, my new 175/70x13 Yokohamas on the new 5.5 inch Dayton wires were rubbing on sharp bumps and right hand turns. It was scraping the RWArch, and I was a victim of the dreaded driver side droop, not to mention the extra lbs I carry...hitting about 260 at my last weigh in. Bill, It all depends on what you want. To keep the original spirit of the car, with "Sprightly" driving...(pun intended) and handling the Datsun 5 speed and 1275 A motor is the most popular. I haven't heard you mention the Mazda rotary. If you want to go fast and handle, that is a great way to go. 225 to 275 hp and about the same weight equals "WAY BEYOND OH SH*T"!!! Your plans pretty much match up with what I am doing, Rick. I have the engine compartment pretty well taken care of as well as the front wheel wells. I used POR 15 on the compartment and the various metal shrouds and brackets. It is supposed to be very tough and it has a nice shine to it. Since my color is black the color match is not a concern. Nelson - Know exactly the stuff your talking about, a freind had the exterior of his brick building blasted and had about a dozen bags left over, I grabbed them before they went into the dumpster and have them gathering dust in my garage. I wasn't sure if it was too abrasive or not to use on the MG, but if you already have used it, guess I'm safe. Anyone fitted a MGOC badge bar to chrome bumper midget with 70's style round spot lights. If so any problems? To avoid drilling any holes I propose to use another side/headlight switch in the panel light position to provide panel lights/ spot lights. Hi, I am in the middle of recovering my seats so I took a photo of one of the seat bottoms. The holes are about 1 1/2 inches in diameter and are bored to about 3/4 of an inch from the top. I posted the photo in Jim Curtice's photos... I already did one of the seat bottoms but didn't bore holes. Now that I've read these posts, I'll probably have a go with the second one.
