I was a member over a year ago and had to drop out. Well I'm back and this time I need to seel my 1973 Midget. If anyone is close to Las Vegas and wants it, it's going cheap at $750. Hi All, As i slowly rebuild my 76 Midget, i have come across a slight dilema. I am about to put the Outer sill on to the car but when i line it up and clamp it in place the top of the outer and inner sills meet up perfectly but at the bottom the sills are apart by about 2 cm (3/4" in old money). It just does not seem right. Should they meet up at the bottom? When i removed the sill there was not this gap. I am unsure whether the previous owner had the sill... MORE
RBH, You are a master of explanations as well as BE crazy. My rubber bumper car was converted to disc wheels and no bumpers at all. The rear end IS the tricky part. I considered two approaches:1) Have a body shop do it or 2)take a mold of my buddy's RWA section under the tail lights and make up a fiberglass piece to replace the flattened area. Use the folded over metal in the flat area to secure the new pieces and bondo 'em in. There isn't as much material removed on the rubber bumper cars as it appears... MORE

The front end is the easy part, it's the back end that's hard to do properly, as it involves cutting the rear panel out. I have seen a few that have been half done and the back of the car looks awful, would look better with the rubber bumpers still on. "Did it make the job better or save you money?" Both, Bob.... Assuming decent paint/technique, the paintjob is in the bodywork/prep, not the paint. The paint won't cover lousy bodywork/prep....any imperfections will show. If not immediately, then within the first year. The actual spraying takes maybe 20 minutes, the bodywork many, many hours.. it's all in the prep. Duncan, I know a remodeling construction guy and I noticed that when he was working on a house, he would roll out some kind of thin plastic sheet, perhaps 4 or 6 feet wide, that had a light sticky glue on one side. It would stick to carpet and floors and not slide around but not sticky enough to be a problem pulling it up after the job was cleaned up. Kept the rugs and floors from paint drops and dirt etc. The backing was about as sticky as a yellow post-it note and I think it was clear... MORE
Bob, My Mini is RHD, and it really is no problem driving on the "wrong side" of the car. Shifting with your left hand is easy to get used to, say about half an hour and you'll have it down. Minis and Spridgets are small enough that there isn't much change in perspective being another foot or two to the right. If you are used to moving about in your lane (my primary commuter is my motorcycle), lane position won't be an issue. G'day Steve These packers were used "as required" on all Sprites and Midgets with wind-up windows, not just the rubber-nose cars. They are made out of a compressed fibre board not dis-similar to the backing on all the trim panels. They are approx 1/10" thick, and you use as many as you need to fill the gap. I have a few NOS ones, but it is very easy to make your own out of whatever material is close at hand. Actually, Chuck.... .milling the head is preferred over flat-tops or domed pistons (as explained in your Vizard book, BTW) as a way of bringi ng the CR up a bit. With all due respect....strongly suggest you read the book...from cover to cover..... BEFORE (not after) you build your motor!!!! :):) Fr'instance....an understanding of the sections on cams will allow YOU to choose the best cam for your application, without input from others (though of course we are always at your disposal, obviously!!:). Hello all: This Question is about my '68 Sprite "Rosa" - 1275cc Is it possible that the timing chain jumps a teeth on any of the sprockets when it gets worn? I have my engine out of the car for an unrelated issue (replaced the starter ring gear =96 different story) and noticed that the notch in the crankshaft pulley is about 15 deg past the TDC mark when the nr. 1 piston is at TDC. I checked the posiiton of the nr. 1 piston visualy through the spark hole, and by using a wire and am quite sure... MORE
Hi Spence, It is the worst part. The engine is sweet and the interior has been well looked after. The front wings are new ones. It came with a van load of spares inc 6 wire wheels hub and 3.91 diff. New door and bonnet. I paid =A3300 for the lot so i am very happy with it. I am keeping the rostyles on it and selling the wire wheels and bits that go with it. It depends if you replace the whole panel or just the boot floor part - the complete original panel arches forwards and up over the axle and forms the 'dog shelf' behind the seats. The part panel ends at the edge where boot meets axle arch. Even the part one needs some care, because the rear springs mount to this panel, so you have to make sure you get things lined up correctly before it's all welded up; however, if you leave the reinforcing pieces in place where the spring hangers mount, this should give you a reference point... Well, my windshield search is finally over. I just won one off of ebay. The funny thing is, the shipping is going to be more than the cost of the windshield assembly. Oh well. Yes it is not new, but it is certainly cheaper than new and also it will be better than the cracked one that I have. I know you all were on the edge of your seats wondering when I would find a windshield and get my Midget back on the road form my post from about 6 months ago, so now you can all relax.... MORE
