Stewart, if it's the same as late 1275 ones, then the front fuse protects the stuff that's not controlled by the ignition switch i.e. is live all the time - horns, interior and boot lamps, cigar lighter. It should be rated at 17 amps continuous, 35 amp blow. Both horns and courtesy lamps have permanently live feeds (purple wire) with the earth side being switched, so a purple wire is a good start for finding the likely culprit. G'day Do you have a roll bar in your Midget? If you don't, then don't even think about fitting the harness. I just got a sabelt three point racing harness at a british swap meet with the intention of fitting it to the stock seat belt mounting points on my 1971 mg midget. I got home and noticed a small problem. The belt that extends behind the seat to the rear point is too long. Is it at all reccomended to alter the length of a seat belt in such a way that it requires sewing? Would such alterations still be safe? "gan5ub91179g" 36225... MORE

Whatever! I didn't leave the bugey group, had too many people write to me and tell me to just put up with you guys. Some people have an interest in the cars and what others are doing to them, other are just jealous. About luxury cars, doing a nice job on my seats, adding air bags to the suspension and triangulating the rear end not only makes for a great ride and great looks, but makes it handle unbelievably well. Read up on air bags, they allow the suspension to sway-bar correct through the turns better than springs. F=KX.... MORE

Hi all, If you were at the show today and i didn't introduce myself sorry, loaded down with bits. I was on the Midget/Sprite Club stand and there was a White Midget with Red interior and an amazing Roll Bar. It was covered in red material and had a wind shield. the '75 on cars have extra 'chassis' rails running from the wheelarches back to the rear panel, compared with your 74. Apart from this, they are pretty much the same. I'm not sure what the carpet you have in mind looks like, but it looks like you'll might end up modifying something anyway, so it might be cheaper and no more difficult to get straightforward automotive carpet off the roll and make your own. I am looking at redoing my 74 Midget carpeting to include the trunk. However, I can't find biscuit carpeting for a 74. Are 75-on trunks that much different? Or on another note, how difficult in your expert opinion(s) would it be to make a trunk carpet for an MGB fit a Midget? "Mike" 36087... MORE
Nick, I'd like to chip in if I may. I did the conversion on a Neg. ground car ('75 Midget) and took the overloading of the wires advice to heart based on LBC and other experts testimony. I chose a 62 amp GM alternator that was original to pickups mostly from '63-80. It fit and I don't worry about overloading the wiring. It gives nearly twice the amps of the OEM Lucas which should handle anything a reasonable car nut could want. I have one origonal speaker and an origonal radio installed in the radio console under the dash in front of the gearshift. I can hear it over the engine just fine, but my knee kept hitting the volume knob so that now the rado functons but I have to jiggle the knob to get it working. I just installed two more speakers in holes placed in the masonite bulkhead behind the seats (the one that forms a barrier between the trunk and the cabin) that were cut before I owned it. nothing a set of new wings, front panel and bonnet won't fix, get the front looking right again. The real Twinnis were road legal, John Cooper nearly killed himself in one on some bypass somewhere as I remember. Also twin engined cars can't be illegal on the road, or the Pruis and Insight would never be allowed as both are twin engined. In fact most cars have two engines capable of making them move! Hi all, I want to raise the midget of the ground on axle stands and remove the doors and rear wings. I have removed the interior so i can brace it with a piece of 4 x 2 but was wondering if anyone had a better way. I dont want the car to collapse in the middle once i start taking it apart. G'day Jim "Who the heck designed the timing cover without a timing pointer!?" You can blame Alex Issigonis, who designed the Mini. In a Mini, you do the timing off the flywheel, through a hole in the clutch cover. That means you don't need a pointer on the timing cover. Since the engines are basically identical, and the timing covers are certainly interchangeable, many Sprites and Midgets end up with Mini timing covers. Yup, Jim, lay on your back and look up at the timing cover - that's where the indicator is. It can be done by one person if you keep the distributor clamp snug and move it in very small increments. You may find that the mark "floats" all over the place (commonly known as "timing scatter" in an engine with some miles on it). Just pick the mid point of the scatter for your timing point. Hi Abestea, The inner sill connects to the outer sill at the bottom. There should be no gap. The floor panel then attaches to the lower part of the inner sill. Your inner sill should be near vertical and flat. I guess your end filler pieces are to blame here. If you have both sills removed at once (big no no) the body will definitely sag and you will have to jack it back into position to ensure its straight and door gaps are good. If you can once you get it jacked up and with good gaps, fit... MORE
I have three-point inertia reels set up in my BE. The reels are anchored to reinforcements behind the seats. If you go to http://ntahc.org/modifiedhealeys/Photos/157Hammond/157Hammond.htm and scroll down 1/4 of the page, there are pictures. But you will need a roll bar as an anchor point for the shoulder loop, so if you don't have one and you're only talking inertia reel lap belts, it's probably not worth looking at the pictures, since what I did will not help you.
