Eeg I've just completed this on my car for both sides, and both ends. You're right they don't fit particularly well, but a little gentle adjustment with a hammer usually fixes that : ) One side of my car was easier than the other, I think that was more due to the fact I'd learnt from doing the previous side. Hi guys You may have noticed I've been rather quiet regarding posts to the list lately, thats soley because I've been beavering away on the Midget restoration, and making the most of the good weather. When you operate the starter, do the lights dim? If so check your battery. When the ignition switch contacts failed on another of my cars, I removed the cowl and put a jumper across the two terminals on the back of the switch after looking at the wiring diagram to establish which colours the relevant wires were. (Workshop Manual) Another indicator that the switch is going (although different contacts) is that the engine will miss a few beats, particularly when the engine is pulling, for example up hill, leading to a bit of Kangerooing. hello - I'm new to the group and new to owning a 1978 Miget 1500. My problem is I am not able to get the the engine to turn during a start. I know it's not the starter, I had a new electronic starter installed. I read posts about "jumping" the solenoid and would like to know how to do that. I forgot to add a 'welcome to the list', Erich. someone on the list can probably help you narrow down the approximate age of your 'new' car with a little bit of detective work, for example, has it got wind-up windows or sidescreens? 948/1098/1275 or 1500 engine? combined brake/clutch master cylinder or separate? single or dual circuit brakes? chrome or rubber bumpers? if chrome, are they wide or narrow? is the hood a packaway type or fastened to the back of the cockpit? and so on. Martin... "Classic" car insurance is different "over here" than it is "over there". "Over here" they will tell you what they will and will not cover in terms of the way you WILL use your vehicle if you want them to insure it. Wood & Pickett do a kit for the Mini, it could probably be adapted. Moss and /or Minispares should sell it in the UK. Whether you want to get rid of the manual winder is another thing. Hi Kelly, My leather seats cost me =A3325 for the pair, exchange, i.e. I gave my seat s in part exchange. They will then be re-done for someone else. That way no one has to be without seats while theirs are being done. The supplier also fitt ed them at no extra charge, I just had to drive there. According to my calculations, yours would work out at about twice the cost of mine. I would suggest you shop around, or if you are clever with that sort of thing, do them yourself. Need some help on this. I intended to rebuild my clutch master cylinder so I looked in the Haynes 1275/1500 comic book. It says to remove the pedal box cover remove the cotter pin and pin and than remove the master cylinder nuts. How does someone remove the lower nut without taking off the entire pedal box along with also removing the brake master cylinder. Not so simple a job. Is this the only way to get at the nut. Hi Kelly, The e-mails are now begining to come through now, I expect the system was down for a bit, as it sometimes is. As for Midgets, mine is now out in the drive, newly serviced etc, and ready for the long haul to Scotland on Friday morning. It's about a 500 mile trip, and should take about 10 hours. Is the wiring loom installed in the car? if so, where is the general location of these mystery wires/connectors? In the absence of the above info, BS AU7a is the standard for wiring colour codes and says: Green/Purple - Stop lamp switch to stop lamps (or stop lamp switch to lamp failure unit) this will probably have a female spade connector at the switch end and a male bullet to connect to the short bit of wire at the lamp end. of course it could also be Light Green/Purple, in which case its Flasher unit to flasher warning light... Hi All, The best way to fit new seats is to drive your car to the MGB Hive, Wisbech, Cambridge, and let them do it for you!! I ordered my new leather seats from them about a week ago, and had them fitted today, without any difficulty!! (at least on my part). It took them over two hours to complete, as the runners were very badly corroded, and nuts wewe seized. But I drove home in comfort, without the need to place my socket set under the seat so that I could see where I was going!! Long live... MORE
Could be a pressure switch to connect to a light on the dashboard which tells you when the filter gets clogged. You probably deserve what you get if you leave the oil that long perhaps ............ Although I have owned my 66 since new, I have been told several times that it has the wrong seats in it. The Mk2 originally came fitted with the bucket type seats, but my car, one of the last hundred or so, had the same seats as the early full length chrome bumpered Mk3 with the 1275 engine - that is the seat with the flatter back. I used a tight seatbelt to stop me sliding about in corners. The vertical profile of this later seat is better for me though, the earlier seats used to give me back-ache.... MORE
Can you remove them without taking the seat cover off? I asked this about the 74 head rest, turns out they did have a spring loaded clip that once it popped into place it was almost impossible to remove except by brute force and pure luck that the retaining clip would break. There hasn't been any mention about Larry Macy's wedding on Sunday! I was there and a good time was had by all. Larry arrived in the passenger's seat of his '79 Midget, in top hat and tails. His driver was best man, Reg Kennedy. Of course, Larry caught his tail (coat tail) in the car door, so he sported a nice greasy spot all day. Larry and Theresa were married in their back yard. Ok...I know why the seats didn't fit. Apparently they changed the Midget midyear in '65. The vin number off the left front fender is GAN3L/36873 which means my car was made in the first half of '65. MEANS.....I force fit the wrong seats in my car. What I don't get, is how they could have changed the car that much that a later 65 seat wouldn't fit right. Man.....it's just always something. "Aren't quarter-lights" No, Bob....they're not. You're wrong and that's all there is to it! (How's THAT for a rotten attitude!!:) They're called running lights as are the ones under the little red lensi in the back that operate full time when you've got the switch on. ****but***** Or, we know them as side lights even though they're at the front ! Used to be known as parking lights, as it was / is , illegal to park a car on an unlit road without leaving your lights on. Some minis used to have a seperate bulb which went through... MORE
midgetSpriter's, I've been trawling the lists for an answer to what seems to be an eternal struggle of getting my Standard Block 1275cc Midget (1970) to run in a reasonable fashion. I've read with interest a number of suggestions and am even more confused as to what the right thing to do in regard to getting this car to run with todays fuels. I've tried the full complement of fuels and am currently running with Premium Unleaded.
