I joined this group because I just got a 1977 Midget that to my supprise started after sitting in a pasture for 6 years. I fitted new tires and filled up the brake and clutch with fluid and I am on the road. There are a few pieces missing though...Like tail lights, mirrors, headlight bezels, air filter, and wiper switch. There are some of these items on ebay but the are for a 1977 MGB. Hello Guys, Can someone give me information on Front Panel Assy for 1976, 1500 Midget... there is one up for auction on ebay with Part# 455-155 in the Moss Book, i dont currently have a Moss Book and would like to know if this piece would be what i am looking for to replace the Front Panel on my 76. Jens Thanks. I think I may have figured out why the needles may have been changed inthe past. On dismantling the front carb this afternoon I discovered that the butterfly spindle was badly worn - and I mean badly lol. It's worn down by about a mil which is a lot. I can only assume the switch to those needles was in some form of compensation for the worn spindle. No wonder the engine had such a lumpy idle which I could never fix no matter how much adjustment I did - with that amount of wear on the... MORE
Hi The 14W wiper motor was made in single speed and two speed versions. This is the round motor can type located under bonnet. Anyone changed their single speed wiper motor and switch for the two speed versions? I have the two speed wiper switch and a two speed 14W wiper motor. Someone told me the single speed motors only had 4 out of the 5 terminal positions fitted whereas the two speed ones had all 5 terminals present. Wrong. Hi guys I was cleaning and reassembling my carb's today and noticed the needle was a D3, yet for normal mixture the standard needle is meant to be a AN. Can anyone shed any light or explain why this needle might be a D3 and not an AN and should I switch back to an AN needle? The engine is not modified in any way. Tia Nigel "amukdigiphoto" 33149... Hi Steve, That looks about right! Keep in mind the history of these cars. The earliest MG midgets were rebodied Morris cars and were refered to as the cars from Morris Garages. Later it was shortened to MG. As for the value, I'm not sure where there's a good place to look it up. Perhaps Thoroughbred and Classic Cars Magazine might have them listed in some of the auction sales they cover. You also might ask Ray at 1939mgtb@... . He's pretty connected to these. Keep us posted. Terry, This may be off topic, or it may not help at all, but an old VW trick solution to the 6 volt to 12 volt conversion with the wiper motor is to take a rheostat out of a wrecking yard. You know the headlight switch push pull and when you rotate it, it dims the dome light and the dash lights. Connect this to the wiper motor and then adjust (rotate) to any desired speed you want from fast to stop and anywhere in-between. Works great, is almost free and works on 6 or 12 volts. It may... Biff, PS I checked out your web site . . . The first new car I bought in my life was identical to your "old grey" also was black body, red interior, and with white walls tires. Wish I had better photograps of it. The only surviving photo is from the front of the door back :-( I traded in my 59 bugeye on it. Nigel, I think the point was that it was a pressing, made as a "universal fit" repair panel, designed so as to fit either 1500 or earlier models, though not identical to the original production panel for the 1275. My '71 Sprite has those 2 depressions - not fully stamped through as cut outs - but the same shape. I thought it was an original panel but as the car had gone through several colour changes (Green - Black -Red) before I got it could have had a front-end repair Guy "Guy Weller" 33041... MORE

I used a plastic push stick, and a bondo spreader, to get it positioned, to sit flat enough to bolt the windscreen in place. You will also need about 3 mates to stand in the cockpit and hold the screen down, once you get the seal where it needs to sit. Brad "" 33015... MORE

Hi Mark, I just finished re-doing the side screens on my Mk2 Sprite so I know what you are going through. 1. My original panes were not useable as the plastic was badly crazed through aging so I wasn't too concerned about removing them intact. I did get two of the four pieces out intact by holding the frames down with my feet and flexing the plastic upwards enough to pull them out. I had to use a screwdriver to bend back the portion of the frames that were pinched to secure the front non-moveable section. Only the rear... MORE

Hi Jim, The pertronix still has too many wires coming out of the dizzy and coil to look stock, but the Crane module can be mounted inside the car under the dash, too. Pa Hi Jim, Meant that to apply to points that fail in a week. Sorry for the confusion. Both Pertronix and Crane are top notch units. I've just had such wonderful use with Crane, I have a bias towards them. I've noticed from the list that many have complained about the early failures of some Pertronix units. TJ, Just went through the same drill with my midget, at least regarding the brake lights not working. Check your brake light switch, which is just forward of the pedal box. If you have a faulty (read: leaking) MC or clutch MC, the fluid could have worked its way into the switch. A faulty switch will not operate the lights when the brake pedal is applied. Just to add to the brake switch discussion. I just replaced the switch on the brake pedal on my '74. Raise the hood and locate the pedal box just behind the left front fender. There are 4 screws holding the cover onto the box. After removing them, the pedals will be visible and you can see if the plunger on the brake pedal switch is working properly. If there is any question, unhook the switch and use a jumper wire to connect the two wires coming from the wiring harness. If the brake lights light, the switch is faulty.... MORE

A second distributor...all set up, spare spark plugs, spare fan belt, and a length of spare hose and ignition wire, spare fuel pump, and necessary small bag of tools. The all important flashlite of course and a portable starter/charger as well if you're really out there in the sticks. Of course... what will serve you best is a quality scheduled, preventive maintenance program (and the "right attitude" towards being "situationally aware" in terms of survival in the... MORE
OK, working on the Midget again, it's running just peachy with the petronix. My last real issue before getting it road inspected is the brakes. There are 2 issues: 1. Brakes need to be pumped 2-3 times every time you need to stop to get full pedal. Once they are pumped, they are solid and do not go to the floor, no matter how hard they are pushed. I assume from this they are holding pressure. Additionally, they don't seem to be leaking anywhere. Next time you need to stop, you need to do pump them 2-3 times again.... MORE

Photo attached My MK III Sprite is the one in the gazebo, the event took place at Hermitage Hall near Downham Market Norfolk, on the original medieval pilgrims way to Walsingham. You may have to blow the photo up a bit to see the detail since it is in panoramic format, the non-Spridget on the right hand end is a Le Mans replica MGA, the red car about halfway between my Sprite and the MGA is an Arkley. The Arkley is built by stripping the outer panels from a Spridget and replacing them... MORE
