hey unfortunately a relocation out of the country is frocing me to sell my 75 midget. the car is in good body shape with one small dent behind the license plate and a small tear around the jack hole on the drivers side. i have the title. the engine is all there but we took it apart and it needs lots of work. i was going to get another engine and put it in there but lack of time does not permit. the interior is there but its dirty and the head rests have no vinly on them. this... TJ, After I removed the seats I am now faced with the same project you are doing, scraping the rust from the floor pans. Not high on my list of fun projects. The forward foot well areas had heavy coats of undercoating under the carpet and did not rust but under the seats I have some clean up to do, no serious rust areas but some and needs to be cleaned and painted. The weather report predicts rain for the next five days. I briefly contemplate slashing my wrists then figure going to the shop and sorting nuts and bolts is a better alternative. That done worked up my resolve to repair and clean the bugeye/73RWA project seats before I spray them with black vinyl dye. Unbolted them and took them into my wee shop where I get high on Acetone, Tetrahydrofuran, Diethyl Hexyl Phthalate, Methanol, Toluene, Methyl Ethyl Ketone, Propylene Glycol, Monomethyl Ether Acetate, Ethyl Acetate and Xylene. I'm standing over my coffee pot staring, as if that will speed it up, real men do that. On top the pot is a knob and two symbols, a dark cup and an white cup. The function I had read is to adjust for weaker or stronger coffee. Turn the knob indicator to the dark cup and all the hot water flows onto the coffee grounds, turn it to the white cup and part of the water is diverted to the edge of the plastic filter holder where a special conduit channels it past the coffee grounds and directly... If you want to drive the car now, with the hood up, get it into a garage, and either put a heater inside or use a hairdryer to soften the viny, then with two people sitting in the car like up the clamps, and both close them at the same time. Me, I very rarely have the hood up. I just don't take her out if there is heavy rain. If it rains while I am out, it's OK, as I have a nice warm flying jacket!! (present from hubby many years ago!) I ususally drive my BE at least once a week (mostly twice) on sunnier, dry winter days. Not this year. I forgot to mention, The impact beam and front bumper really create a safety barrier on your car.(they really work) By removing these you will risk injury in the event of a frontal impact. Now having said that, the Winners circle "fat" flared 1500 nosed kit really looks good when both the front and rear are flared and larger 16" rims are used. Grrrrrrr! I always prefered the one piece front end to the seperate fenders and bonnet. I have used fiberglass panels for decades and never gave it any thought, Just my preferances. Just dont get hit. Best... Its very true! I started out with a '78 1500. Now I have my 71' Sprite. I keep finding myself looking at pictures of a MK II. Those clean lines around the windscreen without quarter lights, those deep door pockets and lovely round top seats........And then people talk of the smoothness of the 1098 engine....I can feal the addiction growing! I recently researched interiors for my '73. Looked at Moss, Vicky Brit, Prestige, MGOC, and Satur. I wanted full leather (Yes, I know the "factory" seat was vinyl). You will find that all suppliers EXCEPT Satur have kits that are leather-faced, but not full leather. Only Satur offers a FULL leather seat cover. I also found that Satur's price was actually LESS than most of the others. You will get a very nice fit from Prestige products. Very nicely made. You will get a fabulous fit from Satur kits. Richard I am restoring a 65 Sprite and originally intended to use a new shell or at least the basic tub (no front wings, doors, bonnet or boot lid) to do this I would have had to modify the rear deck to suit the roadster hood. When my local supplier quoted me 1750 for the tub I changed my mind and set to work restoring the old body. Does anyone have a good drivers side back rest seat foam for a 73 Midget kicking around in the garage? I'm in need of that one single piece of foam, as the rest are in great shape. I am in need on one sill molding strip for my 74. When I purchased it the PO had mounted those broad chrome/stainless steel? sill covers, fortunately only for show as the sills were not rusted out and did not need hiding behind broad strips of shiny metal. I want to restore back to the simple chrome sill strip. I have one from my 73 which to use which was missing one and now need an additional one, won't be using them on the 73 as it is now my bugeye bonnet spridget. It is Moss item number 459-895... MORE
Hey group. I think its time to pass my beloved 62 midget onto someone else. But only after Don May gets first refusal!... I'm not in a panic to move it, but i would like to see it go to a good home. Its photos are in the album section under 62 midget... its an original 948 side curtain model with a very new (under two weeks) rebuilt head. it has very nice seats, good dash, everything works, including the windshiled squirters. the hand brake needs adjustment and it could do with a brake bleeding or the very least... I too was out in a junkyard today looking around. I went to the junk yard because they said they had some leather fiero seats. I did not find any of those, but did run across a beautiful 79 Midget with NO rust and a perfect interior. Motor was out of a triumph and did not run. Come to find out, the car is a friend of the body manager's car. It's not for sale, but instead, it's in transit into a different storage place. Too bad, this car is showroom shiny, and that's with the original paint job.... MORE
Hello all, my Dad's '72 Midget is stuck in reverse. I had been trying to get the reverse light switch to work and had some measured success, but now things have gone horribly awry. The little plunger that pops up to activate the light switch doesn't seem to be popping up anymore and the little jewel won't shift at all. When I let out the clutch it'll back up just fine. It seems as though the first-second gate is working, but when you stick the lever in either position, the transmission locks up solidly. The lever won't move over... MORE
Hi, I can't find anything on dash pads for a pre 1968 midget MKII - it is just a simple cylinrical shape all the way across - does anyone have a source for these? Also, where do people get interior carpets/panels & seat covers if they are restoring to the correct original colors? Moss is very limitted and does not have the original colors that came standard with the car. Hi all I have tried bolting a clip onto a bit of steel first and fitting the trim strip before I pop rivit the clips to the car. This is the strip on the sill and there are 7 clips per side all the same. The returns on the trim are equal so there is no up or down. The only way I can see this working is to insert the trim into the angled part of the clip and push up (or down) hard, push the top of the trim over the rounded part of the clip (in... MORE

G'day Terry I think Trevor could be on to the problem. It sounds like you are fitting the clips upside down. There is no way the two "ears" should hit the bodywork - they will face out from the body at about 45 degrees. The flat side of the clip should be flush with the body. If you are fitting them upside down, a small washer will not help - the trim will be loose after it is fitted. And I certainly would not suggest sliding the trim on - you are guaranteed to scatch the paint. The scratch... MORE
