I can understand using it for the engine bay, but there aren't that many parts of the interior where the paint is exposed. However, spraying the interior cockpit will give you some practice using the paint before doing the engine bay etc. I'm assuming that this is not the first time you've refurbished/restored a car? Yesterday cleaned the baby sh** yellow panels in the 73 and used black Rust Oleum Vinyl spray on them. Never used vinyl spray before . . . but they look great! The seats are next, but I have to work up the energy to clean the durn things first, and repair a couple of splits on the driver's seat. Don "Don May" 29507... MORE
Got your posts confused there cap'n. I have a 5 speed already in place. I think Jim or Paul was wanting to know about the shift knob. I whacked off the datsun shifter and welded my MG shifter to it. I tacked it in place to try out the position, then changed it several times to make it feel right for seating position/arm length. It ended up being not too far off from the original MG position. Trevor J. I am using the original Spridget gearshift lever with aftermarket black leather- wrapped gearshit knob topped with a metal disc AH emblem. Picked it up many moons ago from Sports and Classics. Standard aftermarket part also comes in Walnut as well. Chris Albie? OMG it gets worse, I swear lol! Now Chris come on missy, time to get your hands dirty. Those seats can EASI =3D=0D LY be done by your good self - they really are not that hard. Sounds to me you may need a new rubber diaphragm, which can be awkward to pull into place, you may also need a new foam seat support by the sounds =3D=0D of it. Jim- Mine is being delivered with a black 5 speed knob, shift pattern in white. No idea if I'll like it. If I don't, I will simply rethread it to accept a leather "MG" logo shift knob. Redline now makes something they refer to as the Eliminator series of products that are basically license plate covers that supposedly diffuses laser beams (Radar guns) and allows viewing of the plate only from near "straight on" angles, preventing automatic speed trap cameras from getting a clear image of your plate numbers. They look EXACTLY the same as the vinyl ones, only they're made out =3D=0D of connolly leather hide, and I paid only a little more for them on ebay t =3D=0D han I would have had to have paid for a pair of vinyl ones - so I decided to indu =3D=0D lge a little! The only way you can tell the difference is when you sit in them an =3D=0D d smell that lovely whiff of leather ;) The MGOC want somewhere around =A3250-350 for a set of connolly leather hide ones! Bob- I can't wait. Have the engine out already! Talked with Rivergate, and due to moving into their new shop, was advised they were just now filling November orders. It would be several months wait. Given that I am at the end of a ten year project, I want the car running the first day it gets above freezing in Ohio (which will probably be mid July). I had also heard that the Riverside clutch set-up could be an occasional problem. Apparently they use the MG pressure plate but a Toyota throw-out bearing. Not sure of the disc. Paul... MORE
I've only put about 500 miles on my Rivergate conversion. I initally had questions about the custom clutch. I thought the trowout bearing was a datsun part? Anyway... I was concerned about being able to replace the clutch should rivergate not be in existence when the time came. However, I talked to my local transmission shop, and they said it would be no problem to fabricate. I plan on putting some serious miles on the Midget this summer. Ask me again at the end of the year how it is going. Otherwise I am happy with the clutch performance.... MORE

Do you realise that many of us seem to suffer from selective memory loss? I am refering , in this case, to the seat material of our wonderful little cars. Now we are used to modern seat materials that are usually what might be described as breathable, we have this tendency to forget what the original seat materials were like. For instance, if the car was parked in the sun and you sat on it wearing shorts for example, the degree of discomfort could be quite high. ;-) (Mini skirts, I am told, did not help particularly under these... The cat must be considered at all times, including proper and appropriate access to chosen sleeping areas which may change from time to time as the mood strikes. I thin you are a rabid anti-catite!!! awful-o!! Yes, David, they were. :) Used to think good sheepskin seat covers were an overpriced deal. Well.. I was wrong. I have had mine for about 20 years now (no kidding) and they are still going strong with minor repairs carried out by a local tailor from time to time. He also cut them down from Spridget length to Bugeye length when I "went back to basics:! :) No slipping into the footwell :):) and warm in the winter, cool in the summer. They remove easily for brushout and were a well worth while investment in comfort for... MORE

"House style" Right on Don May. When BL took over things sorta went to hell. Liked the original AH but BMC was OK, too, IMHO. I got one gripe with the original...no trunk lid on the BE. That's it!! Nigel, I am very afraid to post any pix you could see. The car is in three colors of paint plus the original Brookland green. (Seeing what looked best, ya know). I have lowered the front with 1275 springs but not the rear just yet. I'm running American Racing Mags 5.5 inches with 165 x 70 tires. I've cut off the front bumper supports and sold off the rubber bumpers. The interior is new and pretty well sorted out. McGee runs and drives well except for my often mentioned clutch problem. I will be pulling the engine this spring... MORE
Hello Nigel, I do not have one of these cars myself, but I looked at several in the showrooms, and several of my friends had them. They were definitely not gloss and not matt. They had a fair degree of what I would call sheen. That is, the light could be seen to reflect off them. They had a tendency to go more matt with time (which was why many people fitted the stainless steel covers) Make sure that there is a coat of non porous paint underneath though. :-) It is very difficult to describe something like this... The sills on my 72 were what I would call semi-gloss, or as you say, Satin Black. They definitely were never gloss black and I do not think they were ever what I would call mat black. It's all what you want to call it . . . semi-gloss or Satin. Don "Don May" 29347... MORE

Going through old papers the other day and I ran into a letter from a chap in England that was going to do Sebring Sprite replica panels in fiberglass taken off of molds of an original car. Now this was back in 1989 but I am curious if anything still exsists of this project. Ed Great car, but the problem is it has blue seats and the seat styles changed at different dates depending on colour (I expect they were used up at different rates) and my 65 rebuild project (55554) falls right in the middle of the changes and came to me with no seats and black trim although the heritage certificate says red trim. According to Horler if it originally had red trim it should have buckets, if it had black trim it should have the later style seats like yours. The seatbacks and seat pans on my 61 Midget have some rust that I would like to repair by patching. The problem is I don't have a good seat to make a pattern. Does anyone have seats that are stripped thay can trace a pattern from or take digital photos and measurements from? Any help would be appreciated. On the 1500 there is an extra piece on the front of the inner wheelarches, that is not there on earlier cars, however it is welded onto the front original 1275 panel rather than done properly and a new panel!, this is then welded to the rear part of the front panel just outboard of the RB mountings. I think I will just bolt it on.. the engine has to go near vertical to get it out because of the normally non removable front panel! and as I still want to fit an overdrive box (if I ever find...
