Chuck.. I got four during the last 10 days, 2 "ebays" and 2 "citibanks". All went to "spoof" at the respective companies and each time the firms responded as "mails fraud". Incidentally Chuck, on History Channel now...the Air Florida DCA crash of many years ago....interesting! Cap'n. Bob '60 :{) PilotRob@... 27738... MORE

I can't offer any good suggestions but I feel strongly that whatever the problem is it happened after it left Comptune. I had known Dave Tabor since 1963 and he would not send out anything in less than perfect condition. Long before he thought of starting Comptune he helped me work on my Sprite at his house. Through the years we drank a lot of coffee together and he was a wealth of information and help for me. Comptune does still exist but Dave's widow sold it and the new location is in Georgia, I believe. With the many... MORE

Hi, Gerard.... Funny you should mention this for the NY Daily Snooze reports our federal, state and local law enforcement agencies have recently joined foreign law enforcement agencies in Operation Cyber Sweep as they originate a program to finally seriously address (globally) cyberscams. The spoof messages thus far are purported to originate from "security" at AOL, PayPal, Ebay, Citibank and multiple British-based banks wherein the recipients are "warned" of impending "problems" with their accounts unless they "update" (to the contained web address) their credit card/personal financial info. In addition to each one of the above's real "spoof" or "fraud"... MORE

Nigel I will strip and examine the probably get a local rebore shop to do the cra nk and block if required. Rebuilding and head reprofiling I'll probably do myself. I will probably get hardened inserts put in also. Some machining I can probably get done if required by my sub contractor machine shop. I got a bit interested in the bore Vs stroke for 1340cc . I might look into that also. I got machined and rebuilt modified mini and MGBGT engines in the past (bef ore the kids started growing up) but have really only been doing... MORE

I have listened to all the talk of hoisting the engine out of the car using the ceiling joists in the garage. The typical 2x4 ceiling joist on 24" centers gives a 10 pounds per square foot live load and 5 pound per square foot dead load at a max span of 9' 10" for Southern Pine #2. If you have Eastern or Western SPF it is less. The typical garage is wider than 9' 10" so you are working with much less strength if you have a conventionally framed garage. Engineered wood trusses may be damaged doing this... MORE

One for Capn Bob Passengers on a small commuter plane are waiting for the flight to leave. They're getting a little impatient, but the airport staff assures them that the pilots will be there soon, and the flight can take off. The entrance opens, and two men dressed in Pilots' uniforms walk up the aisle. Both are wearing dark glasses, one is using a guide dog, and the other is tapping his way up the aisle with a cane. Nervous laughter spreads through the cabin but the men enter the cockpit, the door closes, and the engines start up.... MORE

Don First make sure that your release bearing is not being held on, leaving the clutch partially disengaged. This could be a sticky throw out arm or a problem in the slave / master cyl inder. Usually the problem is found at the clutch end. If its not this then the driven plate friction material could have worn too thin OR it has over heated due to slipping - this will result in a shiny glazed finish of the friction material. Will work ok until the engine torque required to move the vehicle (accelerating /going up hill, or with... MORE

Duncan You're most welcome, I'm just sorry I can't be of more help. I have quite a lot of old SU literature here, courtesy of an old 'motor-racing' friend of mine who many years ago had a tuning shop, but as many of us do, never threw anything out! He's now passed most of that information onto me now, I have a whole host of information relating to Solex carbs! If I do come across anything else that may be of interest to you, naturally I'll let you know. It is an interesting question though, if the Carbs were... MORE

Chris You know, I had a funny feeling that it may have been the car you were talk =3D=0D ing about earlier, don't ask my why, I just 'felt it', and you should have said =3D=0D - it had been restored 8 years earlier!!!! *smack on the wrist* I can guarantee you this Chris, once you've owned a Midget (or Sprite) you =3D=0D won't ever want to sell it! OK, Now I have located someone to supply the wheels I thought I wanted...13x5.5 -60 spoke, chrome and stainless steel, tubeless wheels. However, the supplier gave me this caveat: Dayton does offer a 13 x 5.5 inch wheel but indicates it is too big for the SPM and cannot be responsible if it is ordered and does not fit correctly. If you want to go a head with it I will get the part number and create it on our site as a one time part. IT can be had chrome 60 spokes tube or tubeless. Takes about 6... MORE
