Dear Listers, Just something interesting I have become aware of lately, I wonder if it is a Southern California fad or have you all seen it? It is a sport called Drifting. The object is to take a car around a closed course at high speed (sometimes as much as 100 mph) and throw it into a huge 4 wheel drift for as far as possible. hey unfortunately a relocation out of the country is frocing me to sell my 75 midget. the car is in good body shape with one small dent behind the license plate and a small tear around the jack hole on the drivers side. i have the title. the engine is all there but we took it apart and it needs lots of work. i was going to get another engine and put it in there but lack of time does not permit. the interior is there but its dirty and the head rests have no vinly on them. this... G'day all Good point Alan. Sprites and Midgets (and many other BMC cars) were assembled here by the Austin Motor Company (Australia) Pty Ltd, in an inner Sydney suburb of Zetland. The site was sold off for residential and industrial use some 20 years ago. Fortunately there are a few guys who worked for BMC during the 1950's and 1960's who meet a few times a year, and who visit interested car clubs to talk about their experiences, show photos of the cars being constructed etc. It's great that these guys are still around sharing their knowledge. I think you would be better off simply buying a later model car. Why put al l that money into a 62 that will no longer be a 62? The value of the 62 is because it does not have later added on wind up windows and has a cleaner s tyle. Do not know about Great Britain but here you can buy a running 62 Spr ite/Midget for far less than what you would spend ending up with a car that has no value as a collector car and is neither a 62 or a 67. Oh my god I've been sucked in! I think the difference of opinion is a semantic one about what consitutes an OE colour. Nigel feels it's only the colours that were applied in England, Colin feels that if they were applied by Austin Austrialia (or whatever the subsidiary were called) then it's OE. The ex Cap'n wrote...."Wrynose" You people "over there" have got the coole st names for things! :) My favourite in the Lake district was the "Hardknot" pass. Single track with passing points. Longish straights and a few hairpins. I s eem to remember it finishes with cattle grids and a chicane though a farmya rd type environs, - solid granite walls. I thought I was saving petrol by trying to coast down the mountain, but wh en the brakes overheated and I had no engine braking I found out how hard t he granite walls of the barn were.... MORE
