I understood that the early cars had hand stamped numbers (cut, I believe the expression is) from the top . But the later cars had them stamped from the back resulting in raised figures that in theory could not overstamped. An anti theft device to stop people changing the identity of the car. I understand that there's a place in Brum (where else?) that supplies the c orrect VIN plates and know a place that can stamp the raised letters. I hav e the details somewhere. Dan Can't help with the book I'm afraid, but I do know that Moss in the UK do t =3D=0D he VIN plates, also that they sometimes come on on ebay.co.uk within a 'decal =3D=0D set'. You could also trawl ebay.co.uk or .com for the book you're looking f =3D=0D or, I've seen all sorts of books relevant to Midgets and Sprites on there. "Is it snowing already" Yep...not right now, but earlier this morning with arrival of cold front outta Canada. Only "squalls" or showers though with passing of fairly dry cold front this morning up here in the NE USA, Nigel. Much Canadian cold air moving in tonight. Temps here in CT on the shore should fall to low 20's by early morning. Temps in Maine (further north and east) should be fall well into the mid-teens, winds notwithstanding. Well, now that I've so so much great help in locating a source for VIN plate stamping, I find my source for the blank plate (I hadn't ordered it yet) has dried up. Can anyone tell me where to get one? Secondly, thanks to all who helped me ID my missing book, but I now find it's out of print, and I can't locate one of those either. The book is the "Sprite MG Midget Owners Handbook of Maintenance and Repair" It's green covered and is abut 5" x 8". It's published by Clymer Publishing. Again, where can I... MORE
Eeg Thank you and I'm pleased to hear your new sill is going to stay on! And yes I've already sprayed the underneath in topcoat, it's all done, as well as the engine bay and inside. I'm just working on the outer panels now. Repair panels are notorious for poor fit, some suppliers of repair panels are better than others (yes Ashley Hinton, you're one of the good ones:) and pretty much all of them require some form of fettling to make them fit correctly. Well, I just couldn't stand no being in debt. I had come into a small (and I mean small) amount of cash recently due to the sell of a piece of property in a ghetto. All offers will be considered. The car is pictured here but is now in running condition. I will post the new photo under SAVEDBLACK79MG. I have a rip free covertable top on it, and good black paint on it. The engine and transmission work good, I need to adjust the engine to run at normal speed. The brakes work and all the lights work. Er guys, I might be wrong but don't think so. Wasn't one of the reasons that once Concord(e) was into commercial operation (development and build costs already paid off) it was the noise control lobby in New York that delayed the commencement of the planes prefered profitable route. N.Y. was the last U.S. city to let the old girl fly in AND OUT. I still like to think it was the NIH syndrome that was the reason for this . Hi, Alan... Sure. But had petroleum prices remained at or about pre-nationalized levels, these airplanes would have been flying long haul routes all over the world today, IMHO.
