price should be? If the car is as "perfect" as the seller says there shouldn't be a need to put any $$$'s into R&Rs. I've never bought an MG that I didn't need to put at least a few $Ks into it. No idea what to look for in a car that is 25 years new. No idea what to offer for this car. Any suggestions will be considered and appreciated. Jim C 73 Midget 66 MGB "klutterbutt92530" 23647... Don, Re the crack, there are many al. alloys which are not weldable, but I have no idea about this one. In any case, a typical good welding-repair practice for large and relatively fragile castings such as this is to pre-heat the whole bare casting (in an oven) and keep covered with thermal blankets as much as possible during the weld time to minimise distortion. Without this, even if the bell housing IS weldable, one of the dangers is that you might just cause the crack to propagate further by attempting to weld in situ and thus cause more... MORE

Thanks for the tips David. Now that I think about it I think I am to fault for the problem. I towed it home with the rear wheels on the dolly and the steering locked in center position. The California freeways, that in sections are fast approaching third word conditions, could have been too much jarring on the steering lock. 880 between Hayward and Berkeley is some of the worst freeway surface I have driven on in the states. I have a new Kenlowe kit, built to go in front of the radiator in my 71 crossflow 1275 Midget, but I'm interested in fitting the electric fan off a 89 Civic Si behind the rad if there's room. With my engine out, I can't measure the gap. The Honda unit looks far more robust an air mover, but will need a minimum or 4 and a half inches - 5'd be better. Could one of you boys 'n girls go measure? Sure would appreciate it. It's 86 degrees in my shop today - could be worse, eh? Thanks... MORE

HHmmm... I don't see how towing would fall under that category.... How would a tow truck be allowed to tow a vehicle. At least in MD... you see wrecked...no tags on the vehicle... most definitely wrecked 'non-operational' vehicles towed wheels on the ground all the time. In California the law is the wheels of a car with a non-operational registration status are not allowed to touch any road surface either while moving or parked or towed with wheels touching the road. I now have a no fee permit that allows me one day to move it from one location to another. If I did not have 55 miles to travel in heavy freeway traffic with no back roads only 55 miles of city streets and traffic I would not bother with such silly rules. I've completed converting my Bugeye over to negative ground, but I am having a problem converting the tachometer from positive ground to negative. The only tach conversion instructions I have been able to find on the internet or books are for a different type (earlier positive ground tachs?) and the configuration & colored wires do not match. I need advise from Listers who have done a similar tach conversion in past. First ... tach is not original Bugeye. My tach is from a later Mark 2 Sprite (HAN7), specifically a Smiths RVI2401/00 Positive Earth. The white wires wrap around... MORE
