I was fortunate to have a pleasant weekend, with a variety of list members, as well as looking for some old car parts. Wednesday had me preparing the Impala, and display driver, for the trip to be sold. Thursday, I headed up to north Fort Worth, to meet up with Bruce Lowry, and his friend Shane. I met up with them a bit later than expected, as rain had slowed Bruce down to a crawl through Dallas. I parked the Impala next to their spaces, and installed my dummy driver, Gene Simmons. I have used POR-15 in my front wheel wells and engine compartment and have mixed feelings on it. It has a great shine to it when finished and I liked that aspect. One problem that I had was that as it cured/dried it formed bunches of tiny bubbles on the surface. When I talked to their tech people they said that the humidity must have been too high and that it is sensitive to humidity. They recommended that I sand all the bubbled surfaces with 440 paper and to put on another coat. This happened last fall and I... MORE
Well I snuck out ot the house this morning to spend and hour and a half at the gun show. Nothing too exciting, but I did pick up a lovely little 28 guage double barrel with side hammers. Needs a little TLC, but it was a size I've never owned. Also, listen up Brad, I found a guy selling laser sights with pistol mounts for $25.00. I'll let you know how they work. Finally I found a, you'll love this Frank, a Chinese scope, 6x24x50, with rangefinder, for $130!...quite a deal if it holds together on the 300 Weatherby.... MORE
I found the source of the wisp of smoke from the starter area to be that the 3 wire connector between the distributer and ignition module (Howard Assoc. of Costa Mesa Ca.) was sometimes shorting against the +12 Volts to the starter (neg. earth set up). It's no longer in a position to short, But I still loose ignition after I start to crank. Think I cooked the ignition box? If so, what would be the hot choice to replace it? RE: I was going to make Yes, and therein lies the rub. I think if you figure for inflation/cost of living the standard has remained about the same. It would seem that after 8 years of college and 25 years of experience I would have a different attitude....but I am sure you have heard(or said) this all before. my 79 1500 was smelling like gas badly. Noticed the water controlled choke was basicaly hanging by one screw. So, like a fool, I disasembled the choke while I was in there, just to see if everything was ok. Now the stupid part: I'm not sure if I lost it, or if it was never there, but there's no heat mass. Now my question is, it's nice and warm here in NH now, being spring and all; Do I even need a choke, or can I just seal off the holes in the carb? and how hard is it... MORE
I had one many years ago and enjoyed it so much that I want another one? A friend of mine called me yesterday and said he saw a 62 sprite on ebay with only 45 minutes left on the bidding and it was up to $400. It was located near Atlanta. It was a project that was taken apart, sandblasted, put in boxes 8 years ago and has been stored. All parts there..Hmmmmmmmm I need another project in my life like I need another EX WIFE! Cap'n Bob and Robert, Flew aboard whales (EA-3B Skywarrior) from various carriers, primarily in the Med. As a CT augmentee out of Athens, Greece and Rota, Spain, most of my flying dets were to the USS JFK. I have to be honest and say that I was not at the controls as the pilot during cats and traps, but I did drive once (with the pilot's concurrence as sidesaddle) at a steady 35K feet. How I came to a Midget...? A few years ago, my brother gave me a 1975 FIAT X1/9. He was having some problems with it. I got those fixed. It was a fun little car. Like a go cart, but street legal. Anybody every take the column out and just shorten it? On my 73 it seems it could be 3-4 inches closer to the dash. The fellow customizing the black one did what I think is a very attractive dash. That type of dash, with a shortened column should give us more room, no? Well, here I am again....Thanks to all who responded to my annoying questions....esp. Cap'n Bob and Frank C. The three webbing pieces that attach the rear two support bars together have completely deteriorated and need to be replaced. Question: Is this webbing needed at all? Ok, I am sure you all know what POS means. LIC is for Little Italian Car. I am about to acquire an 850 Spider, of late 60's, possibly 1970 vintage. Anyone know if these things have any intrinsic value. It is a complete car, but no title. Burgundy in color, I could take photos if there is an interest. True to form for the LIC's, it is rusted, even here in humid Texas. Please feel free to contact me off list if you are interested.
