G'day all And sorry Nigel - BRG was a standard colour for Bugeyes in Australia. The cars assembled here came in as CKD (Completely Knocked Down) and painted in grey primer. They were painted here in four standard colours, after four European national racing colours: Rhiems Blue (France) Monza Red (Italy) Nurburg White (Germany), and British Racing Green (duh). The Australian ID plates on the firewall were stamped with the car model, body number, engine number and colour. I can understand using it for the engine bay, but there aren't that many parts of the interior where the paint is exposed. However, spraying the interior cockpit will give you some practice using the paint before doing the engine bay etc. I'm assuming that this is not the first time you've refurbished/restored a car? Cannot speak to other states, but in Ohio, Revised Code section 4503.21 specifies that the plate must be in "plain view" and "shall not be covered by any material that obstructs their visibility". Other states have substantially similar statutes. "dfwip" 29453... MORE
Bob- I can't wait. Have the engine out already! Talked with Rivergate, and due to moving into their new shop, was advised they were just now filling November orders. It would be several months wait. Given that I am at the end of a ten year project, I want the car running the first day it gets above freezing in Ohio (which will probably be mid July). I had also heard that the Riverside clutch set-up could be an occasional problem. Apparently they use the MG pressure plate but a Toyota throw-out bearing. Not sure of the disc. Paul... MORE
I've only put about 500 miles on my Rivergate conversion. I initally had questions about the custom clutch. I thought the trowout bearing was a datsun part? Anyway... I was concerned about being able to replace the clutch should rivergate not be in existence when the time came. However, I talked to my local transmission shop, and they said it would be no problem to fabricate. I plan on putting some serious miles on the Midget this summer. Ask me again at the end of the year how it is going. Otherwise I am happy with the clutch performance.... MORE

"House style" Right on Don May. When BL took over things sorta went to hell. Liked the original AH but BMC was OK, too, IMHO. I got one gripe with the original...no trunk lid on the BE. That's it!! I've seen them all shades of black including underseal. I've seen them with chrome and stainless trims. I've seen them rusty brown with holes. I've seen them with painted over rubberized paint. I've seen them with the same colour and finish as the rest of the car. Which although is not original looks far better, and classic IMHO. Mine will be the same colour as the bodywork. Nigel, I am very afraid to post any pix you could see. The car is in three colors of paint plus the original Brookland green. (Seeing what looked best, ya know). I have lowered the front with 1275 springs but not the rear just yet. I'm running American Racing Mags 5.5 inches with 165 x 70 tires. I've cut off the front bumper supports and sold off the rubber bumpers. The interior is new and pretty well sorted out. McGee runs and drives well except for my often mentioned clutch problem. I will be pulling the engine this spring... MORE

The future 200 watts is correct El Capitan. I just had an error in stating that my current setup puts out 20 amps when it should have said 20 watts. As for the future 200 WATTS IT IS but probably in the '69 CGT as to provide a bit more security (locking doors and an alarm system). I like the visual of the Memorex commercial :) It is the set-up I had in 1992 Civic Si prior to having a stupid driver try and shoot through an intersection at the same time as me in 1995. ...or you could put Fiero seats in the car. Mine have speakers built in to the headrests and I can hear them just fine. And for now they are only getting 20 amps supplied from the Sony CD head unit. Maplins have a web site (maplin.co.uk) and do mail order from it. The wire is quite thick for the panel lights and shoulds easily take the extra load. When I get to Maplin I will buy a holder and a halogen bulb, and try to modify the existing holder. In the past I have smashed up a bulb and mounted the new holder in the screw bit of the old bulb. Now the old bit screws into the original holder and the new bulb goes into the new holder. Got two problems, not a lot of light and bad... MORE

I know that this really is off LBC topics but it is very interesting to me to get a snapshot of real living conditions from various parts of the world. Nigel's information of the tax of about 8% going health care is interesting. In my case, (and I am happy with my HMO health care plan with Kaiser) (except for the cost) It now costs me $800 USD per month!!!!! for me and my wife and no children. That is with no major health problems. It would have been more but I changed my plan to increase my co-pay... MORE
