Chuck...do not be mislead by compression ratios which could be had back when leaded ("manly") octanes were available . Today's unleaded "garbage" octanes require a little more thought in this di rection, assuming a cast iron head and the ignition advance curve you're probably working with, along with a "mild" cam with relatively little duration which will favor maximum "trapping" of the combustion gases in favor of the low end of the useable rpm spectrum (torque.. as in street application). Anyone remember a model # for the Isuzu trooper starter that is supposed to fit a Spridget? I seem to remember this was a bolt in substitution. I installed the pertronix night before last, but the engine wont turn over fast enough to fire. I've changed just about everything but the starter, so I guess that's next. FYI For any car addicts (british or non-british) in SoCal area needing a car fix this winter, there will be a Car Show (charity event) in San Juan Capistrano, CA this February 5th, Saturday. I missed last year's show but from pics it looked like a good turn-out of several hundred. Yeah... California has really gone over the top on classic car "emissions". It's all part of a political agenda in this particular respect, obviously. Has nothing to do with air polution really. I mean my Vizardized '74 1340 almost made it by CT emissions and was only "out" by 50 ppm hydrocarbons or less than .05 CO, depending upon which side of the correct ignition timing we chose to go. And this thing had a VP3 cam, 45DCOE and got 90+hp to the rear wheels. When properly tuned and maintained, most emissions non-equipped vehicles can get by the criteria... MORE

Well, my windshield search is finally over. I just won one off of ebay. The funny thing is, the shipping is going to be more than the cost of the windshield assembly. Oh well. Yes it is not new, but it is certainly cheaper than new and also it will be better than the cracked one that I have. I know you all were on the edge of your seats wondering when I would find a windshield and get my Midget back on the road form my post from about 6 months ago, so now you can all relax.... MORE

I recently had the pleasure of having dinner with Kevin and Cathy Valentine in Pennsylvania. Over dinner we of course discussed Spridgets, and I told him how I was having trouble with mine running rich and was contemplating a change of carburetors. Kevin pointed out that most carb problems are electrical and asked if I had checked the points. Well, I still haven't but I did decide to make them a moot problem by ordering a Pertronix Ignitor. Hi jim, I will try to drive by his shop this week and see if I can get his number. The hardtop I have was from the high desert at the base of the San jacinto mountains in San Bernardino County CA. The one he has was from a sports car shop in LA County. I don't think he has any clue what most of this is, as he is not a Brit car guy. Actually, the saga behind this is that I was looking for a car that definately needed lots of work doing. I wanted something that I could rebuild with my son, who was then in his mid teens. We needed the father / son bonding thing and both needed something to keep us off the streets! So we learnt together, how to weld, rebuild an engine and respray. "they" haven't lost their minds Bob, they've just forgotten the fact Europeans were responsible for two World Wars in the last century and have forgotten (obviously) who provided the majority of the manufacturing capacity (not to mention some "human" help) that bailed them out.... and most especially so in the case of France.
