Hi guys And please don't think I'm now restoring a Mini because I'm not ok ! It's about time I updated you folks on how the Midget restoration's coming on. The bodyshell is now about 90% complete in gloss coat, there's a couple of area's I need to deal with and a couple of panels to finish with 90/10 paint/thinners mix, to bring up the gloss. The bootlid has had 5 or 6 coats of 50/50 and now needs some 70/30, and 90/10 coats. Likewise the passenger door. The drivers door, is in primer now awaiting its first gloss... MORE
Ah! yes we have one of those on the Imp list, he doesn't own an old landrover and tell stories about when he was in the war! My mother in law worked for Dunlop aviation in Coventry (tyres mainly) she moved with the operation to a massive building in Birmingham known as Fort Dunlop. it sounds a bit like a sliding sun roof, rather along the lines of the 'Web asto'. The plexiglass could be a wind deflector? Absolutely correct. You need a hole in your roof to fit it. Hi Everyone I am trying to identify some type of top/cover assembly that a friend has inherited. Possibly someone in the UK can help. A description: It is a vinyl peice aprox. 3'x4' with reinforcment rods under a headliner material attached. It comes with chromed finishing parts for all sides. It also has a piece of curved tinted plexiglass with mounting pins on each end for the front/rear 3' section. Sort of looks like a large sunvisor. The vinyl is flat, no sides or back window section. Ok as we know, each of our cars are the similar but different, depending upon our likes and dislikes - some stock, some customized. Son and the car are in Cincinnati. Body is good, little rust, no collision damage. We took the 1275 and the trany out to inspect, and all seems o.k. Things I think it would need are : Engine gasket set, clutch and slave, Motor mounts, battery and a soft top. If I where nearer I would have had it on the road. We have had it for about a year with no procross except the inspection. He was going to do the body work first and paint, I was more intrested in getting it running, for fun, then paint... MORE

Yes, I have a standard Small British Garage (SBG) and have removed two rear axles and suspension in one go. Putting back together will probably as ind ividual parts though. As far as I can remember, I placed a wheelable trolle y jack under the diff housing I put axle stands with about 9" square 1/2" ply between the stand and floor pan (to spread the load) on either side of the car, under the rear bulkhead. Guy I don't know you know, that axles pretty heavy for one person to handle on their own, specially as its an awkward SOB to get to. You're also assuming that those nuts and bolts will come off nice and easy - never the case! F-111...FB-111 Thought so as soon as you mentioned Buffs. My ex-Chief Pilot at Brockway Air used to fly FB's our of Plattsburgh, NY wherein B-52's were also based...same with Pease...Buffs teamed with FB's. That FB is a "dense" airplane...75,000lbs+ loaded I guess. He loved the thing and the job. Mission was "on the deck" (terrain following) 2 element nuclear delivery, than get the hell outta there anyway you could sorta thing. Guy was a great pilot, check pilot and boss. I and several other people round here have good experience of the Ignitor (Pertronix in the US, Aldon in the UK). Hides complete within the cap. Dave, It sure is the same. I still remember the smell today. I was at the vintage races in Coronado CA a few months ago and some old UK iron trundled by and that great smell just grabbed me by the nose and transported me back to my early days of racing. I decided I was bulletproof against the cold and refitted the head and all that stuff and the car started! How about that!!! That 45dcoe is giving me a flat spot the size of Grand Canyon! Always had one, but it seems worse now. Cam + cold I guess. I will chart the numbers and ask around. They came from Vizard's second book.
