Hi I am in the process of restoring a 1965 MK III Sprite and have bought two new floor panels (I don't think the one piece panel is available any more) I have started cutting back the passenger side floor and have struck sound metal a few inches in from the inner sill and plan to cut my new panel down and weld it to the sound original metal. Hi all As discussed in the previous thread my 1500 is totally standard bar the K&N filter, which was fitted and set up by the MGOC on their rolling road. However it has always been a bit hesitant, especially pulling away from cold. I also noticed it yesterday when it was fully warmed up and I was driving along at about 40.Ipressed the pedal down to accelerate and there was a definate hesitation, almost like turbo lag. Yep... You may have to do a little "fettling" to get fibreglass parts to correctly fit Ben. This is par for the course and should be pretty minimal if you buy from a quality supplier like Speedwell or Winner's Circle, both of whom have been doing these for years. Perfect Plastics is another long time supplier as well, though not sure what parts the presently stock. I myself am going over to a fibreglass bonnet for my Frog. Hi Ben You are right in that fiberglass wings are cheap and that they don't rust, although I don't think that the weight reduction will make a noticeable performance increase. Other things to consider will be the reduced strength of the front end if the unthinkable happens, paint cracking and flaking off, possible earthing problems of the headlights and of course the FACT that they won't fit!!! Well, I didn't get the Riley grill. The seller sent me the email below, a nd I responded by offering him the =C2=A325 off ebay. He responded that he no w wanted =C2=A330, so I backed away. Guy has it right I bet. You need to lever the rear spring shackles back so that they're at least vertical - preferably pointing back a little. Then load HEAVY concrete slabs in the boot (trunk) and leave for as long as possible for the springs to settle down a little. Hope this helps. Yeah. It probably will handle good that way...:) I live in an area that has steep drive ways and I like my cars "looowww". The two things never mix so that's why Im going air ride. I haven't ran my Midget yet with the air ride suspension. Iv only had the car for about 8 months and 4 of those months its been in my shop being "tricked out". Ed I appreciate your feed back but I do know how to get in and out of my Midget. Im 27 years old and Im very nimble and athletic (former amateur sponsored skateboarder) but my 72 round arch Midget is lowered quite a bit. With the Air Ride suspension up front completely deflated the car sits about and inch off the ground so its a little different getting out of my Midget compared to others. Last year when I removed the rear suspension to send the body off to be painted I discovered a broken spring, so I ordered a new set. After I have installed the new ones I get a wheel base of 79.25 instead of 80 and it is riding very high, so high that I cannot attach the rebound straps. I'm out of ideas so I hope someone has some. In Alans 72 photo album see LBG FRONT initial prime. The midget now looks worse than this as I've decided to remove all the paint and rust from inside the engine compartment. Did you know that under the battery tray is not painted with a top coat? It gives you a good idea of how we struggle for space in the UK, this photo is AFTER extending the garage to create more room. FWIW, I'm running 165/70x13's on my '75 square arch. With the ride height stock I had to grind off the tuck under flange for clearance because of my 5.5 inch wheels. If I lower the car as planned I will probably have to rework the inner wheel well to clear. I don't think you could go much bigger without radical mods if using wheels as fat as mine. I don't think so, Tom. Considering what you paid, if it's in the decent mechanical shape claimed, I think you did OK for what you paid, personally. I owned a de-smogged '72 until a certain girl ran a Stop sign one night and her insurance co. put me into a new Fiat 1/9. Pull the head and shave it to bring the Comp. I don't quite know what I was drinking when I though about this, but I apparently own a 1973 MGB with Wire Wheels and Overdrive in a little rough shape body wise. Mechanically, I guess it's sound. Bill, the normally transverse fwd engine is fairly do-able - the K series transplants popular in the UK are mostly from fwd applications - it's the rwd gearbox to match up with it that is then the tricky part; or more precisely, how you adapt the gearbox to the engine. If it's not a popular conversion, it might need some advanced engineering skills to make the adaptor bits. Not quite sure what you mean by the front portion of a fwd drive assembly, but I assume you mean the complete engine/gearbox/final drive/driveshafts? if so, that'd be quite a bit... MORE

Your plans pretty much match up with what I am doing, Rick. I have the engine compartment pretty well taken care of as well as the front wheel wells. I used POR 15 on the compartment and the various metal shrouds and brackets. It is supposed to be very tough and it has a nice shine to it. Since my color is black the color match is not a concern. Nelson - Know exactly the stuff your talking about, a freind had the exterior of his brick building blasted and had about a dozen bags left over, I grabbed them before they went into the dumpster and have them gathering dust in my garage. I wasn't sure if it was too abrasive or not to use on the MG, but if you already have used it, guess I'm safe. I was considering dipping my Sprite until I asked about it at the local Healey club meeting. The info that I was told was that it does a good job of cleaning up the crud but some of the guys had trouble with the dipping solution coming out at the seams later and messing up the paint job. Jim I'm not sure on this one, but as I've been reading the comments it suddenly came to me. I used to have a Ford Mondeo over here and I'm pretty sure you had to lift that to put it into reverse. Now, as I said, I may well be wrong, but that Mondeo box I think is the same basic 5 speed box as used in the Ford Sierra that preceeded it -and I'm pretty sure that Sierra box forms the basis of a lot of 5 speed conversions.
