Those who have checked out my bugeye bonnet restoration photos may have noticed that I chose to form the missing sections of end flange and sheet metal with fiberglass. I realize that many have advised me to cut back and replace with new formed metal pieces . . . that is not within my expertise nor budget, lots of time I have. I might as well buy a new fiberglass bonnet for the cost involved for new metal work and welding so I sought the advice of some folks at TAP Plastics and went with fiberglass. My logic with... MORE
Don I'ts more than likely an idiosyncrasy of the way the bonnet is fabricated/constructed, being made out of separate side wings (fenders) and top panel, the beading was there I guess to help hide the seam joint. Nigel "amukdigiphoto" 25351... MORE
Dave You really need to find out what is causing the 'severe inward tilt', before you can contemplate fixing it! There is no means of camber adjustment because there is no need to adjust it - if the car is set up correctly it does not need adjustment. Unless you've been in a frontend shunt, or someone has whacked the car on the side in an accident - why would you need to straighten the frame? If you haven't been in an accident recently or whacked that sides wheel on a kerb or know of a PO that bent... MORE
Seams between grille and blinker/running light on bonnet... I too, pondered....then I filled them in! :) Cap'n. Bob '60 :{) PilotRob@... 25359... MORE
Well it's about time. My 71 MG is back and refurbed. While it was apart for a new clutch disc, why not put a Datsun 5 speed in it? 266 cam, lite lifters, right springs, new shells on the still-standard crank, Cooper S 163 head with rimflows and ported, 45DCOE, and LCB, with a Kenlowe to cut cooling losses. Cooper S dizzy. I want a merit badge for making the Rivergate kit work. It is not easy for one who must follow directions literally. Much more difficult than it needs to be, for me, anyway. I know many listers... MORE
Why do you suppose that beading was used to cover the bonnet seams of the fender/ wings however between the signal lamps and the grill opening the seam was left not only left exposed but not smoothed over? Just one of those little things I ponder. Don now full time bonnet sander "Don May" 25349... MORE
Hello Fellow Spridgeteers, Long time lurker (never a poster...'till now). My '71 Midget has a severe inward tilt to the right front wheel (negative camber..I think). Since there, apparently, is no means of camber adjustment, what can I do...Frame straightening...gulp. Is this car capable of being straightened by a standard shop? I need help...the tire is showing wear after 200 miles! "Dave Bilodeau" 25340... MORE

and there is still a slight sag in it. No one but a Spridget driver would notice it and it seems to have absolutely no impact on handling. I guess 40 years of driving just puts a twist in the old body. Man, can I relate! Jack Texas "austinbud2002" 25333... MORE
Nigel, Looking closely, I think the yellow bodywork in the background is in fact only the rear half of a Frogeye body tub. I dont thin it has anythin Frogeye about it forward of the doors. Guy "Guy Weller" 25307... MORE

Gerard I think you're right, as it stands it really is beyond economic redemption. However, if it was a Frogeye, it would be worth the 50 quid, just for the registration and v5 and chassis number which you could then transplant onto a rebuilt shell and build one up that way. Sadly it isnt a Frogeye so that option isnt available. Nigel "amukdigiphoto" 25291... MORE
Hi, Nigel.... Hell....I didn't even see it when I first looked...missed it entirely. Don May noticed the "background" BE and so advised all. And you may be wrong....BUT, you just might right...as to which car is really being advertised and sold and as to what the seller may really have in mind in this respect...it's a little confusing! :) Maybe he just hasn't had the chance to get to his mail yet with respect to your's pointing out what appears to be an error...time will tell. If he's "straight", he should thank you....I would! :) Meanwhile, I sent forward... MORE
Geeze, Don May...you're right..... he's advertising the sale of the car in the background while showing the later Sridget in the pictures?? What a very strange person, the seller. Too bad we can't get a better idea of what the BE looks like...especially the bonnet (Alan East-Jones...are you "listening"?) Cap'n. Bob '60 :{) PilotRob@... 25285... MORE
That will certainly leave one speechless. Strange thing is if you look close in the background is a bugeye body. Don "Don May" 25284... MORE
Hi David You were right on ths wiring colours I didnt notice that differnce. The dash lights area Red wire with white trace Whereas the diode is White Wire with red trace out on the male connector and Green with orange trace on the female connector. So now I have two more questions regarding this 1) If it is the brake failure warning light where abouts on the dash would this be displayed as there is no obvious point I can see. I havnt noted this so it may be functioning well after all. 2) What could be causing... MORE
I think it's a diode rather than a fuse, but the only one I can find in diagrams is associated with the brake failure warning light circuit rather than the panel lamps. However it's possible the colour code has been mixed up - some of the wiring to the brake warning circuit diode is white with a red tracer, the panel lamps supply is the reverse, ie red with a white tracer. What colour wires have you got connected to each side of this unit? Regards David "David Jacobs" 25258... MORE
Hammodale asks..."Sound familiar?" It sure does! That's why I've got halogens and a 3rd brake light mounted high on the rollbar. So THEY can see me better. I still drive it like it's a motocycle though... very defensively...because it is small and can go unseen not only at night...but in broad daylight as well. Not a question of outrunning them at all. Question of "fitting in" with the "flow" (safety). Left to my own devices in light traffic, I'm cruising along comfortably at 3K in 5th...65 or so. One must have the ability to stop quickly, go sideways rapidly... MORE
Robbie, Widening the tunnel is nothing - it takes just a few minutes and makes no difference to the structural integrity of it. The replacement cross member can be bolted in place - which is exactly the same principle as used in the MGBs. It is even possible to reverse the changes if you needed to. Guy "Guy Weller" 25234... need to widen the tunnel by about 1". Easy with a scissor jack. need to cut out the cross member and replace with a similar steel box section immediately below the floor pan, either welded or bolted in place. A quick and easy modification. Guy "Guy Weller" 25232... MORE
Cap'n, This has come up before and the Spit OD will not fit without mods. The conversion I saw widened the Midget tunnel with a bottle jack to fit the OD unit. The conversion also welded in a support piece as I recall. This is one reason I'm reluctant to do this. I have zero welding skills and am somewhat dubious about stretching the drive tunnel that way. May I disagree. For years I ran my mk2 Sprite with 1275 and 4.2 diff. It was a bit buzzy at 80mph on the motorways but easily bearable. Much of this was hood up to and it's much better with hood down which is I'm sure most of the year where you are. You then have the options of either a 3.9, 3.7 or even 3.5 (Moss now sell them again) to make things even better. 3.5s aren't cheap but they are cheaper than a datsun box and fitting kit. Well said, Don May... You hit the nail on the head..exactly spot on. This is the position I found myself in, more or less. Prior to knowing about the Datsun 5 speed, I attacked "the problem" by moving the whole rpm range upscale to 7-7.5k rpm by "Vizarding" a 1275 and making 4-4.5k rpm a comfortable cruising rpm. Supertuning the motor to take higher rpm is not inexpensive... for it's operating range is just short of a track motor. Weber 45DCOE, bigger valves, prepared head, VP3 cam and 1.5 rollers, big bore LCB and large diameter free-flow exhaust system... MORE
"Spitfire O/D gearbox" Will this fit the Spridget tunnel, etc? Seems to me this came up before and I sort of got the impression it would not? Cap'n. Bob '60 :{) PilotRob@... 25194... MORE
