I'm pushing it back and forth and my neighbors must think I 've gone mad. Was at the hardware store and noticed Bondo UV sun activated body filler for the first time and being a curious animal had to try it. "Apply in shade only, must be in sun to activate" a good test for the level of the sun's UV rays it is. The column does not need to be removed, but it needs to taken loose so that it can be extended and dropped down. Otherwise tou will not have the clearence for the back screws in the cowl, and probably not enough clearance for the cowl itself. It is not that big of a job once it is examined. Whilst we are on about language.. Why Lugnuts? Wheelnuts seems so much clearer. Lugs are ears in the UK. Lugholes = earholes And Fenders are what you have around a fireplace to stop hot cinders rolling across the floor. Although, come to think of it, you have fenders on a boat. Nigel.... Spridgets wear "beading" on their rear ends between panels just like BE's, which also have "beading" between panels on their bonnets. In near future, my BE will have no "beading" in it's bonnet as it will have a fibreglass one, as the underside of the BE bonnet is not well protected against road splash. Well, Don.... "Your way" of putting together the panels and ADDING the top of the beading may just be a blessing is disguise with respect to avoiding future rust problems in those seams. There is a special adhesive that can be used in substitude for welding. Auto body supply would definately carry it and I think Eastwood does too. Gerard "gerardchateau" 24829... MORE
Hi Don May.... Considering the banging around the bonnet takes, I would seek the advice of an autobody shop of good repute in terms of the right adhesive to use for this sort of application, assuming you cannot get this advice from other listers. I can't seem to adjust to the idea of not having traditional fender beading. The problem is because of previous fender damage and damaged, bent and missing areas of beading I separated the fenders from the top to repair them and then MIG tack welded them back together along the top seam down in the v grove where the tack welds are easily covered with bondo without installing beading because it is easy to tack weld the seams on top then underneath grind small v shape groves in the sandwiched edges and tack weld there too. It seems like a long way off, but suddenly you look back and wonder where it went. Like you I did not settle down until I was almost 42 so I will be 66 on my 25th. I still suck air with the aid of Flonase, manage to get out of bed and into a vertical walking position and spend most the day on the bonnet from hell. In album labeled Stoneleigh. The car has an all steel bonnet, disk brakes and was very clean and tidy through out. I believe it still has skinny crossply tyres on solid wheels. The car is owned by a Midgetsprite club member - see the central disk on the windscreen . I remember seeing something in one of my books about this bonnet (hood) but I can't for the life of me find it now. I think it may be in the Chris =3D=0D Harvey book on Sprites and Midgets which I've lent to someone. $1000.00 takes this car home. Forced to sell, getting married and need the cash, bonnet alone is worth $1200.00 andI have put more then that just into restoring the bonnet. It is one of three known Thomas Denner Bonnets left in the world. The car is RHD with a new rack, and tie rods imported from the UK, most parts to finish it needs paint and body for the rear half and there is no motor or trans. Any body know of a good source of second hand parts in Norter England. Due to a complete brain fade I have bent the drivers door back on its self with maximun damage to door and A post cover panel. I am NOT happy but only myself to blame forgot to put hand brake on when putting on trailer got out leaving door open and guess what rolled straight off catching door on steady post. Hi afminc13, It can be done but not easily. In my opinion, not a good swap even if it was easy. The reverse is much more easily accomplished (A-series into a later RB car). Motor mounts are different and the frame crossmember where the steering rack mounts needs to be cut and reinforced differently to accomodate the crank pulley. I recall there is a drivers side footwell modification that needs to be done and maybe even the passenger side. If you want to go to that much trouble, I think there are better options, such as a rotary swap.... MORE
Don, Thanks for your help. I've come across the site myself and was definitely intrigued by the front bumper treatment. I've had my extended front "chassis" rails cut off to allow fitting an earlier year grill with no problem. I may even use the box section to feed the twin SU's when I install them. Rob You could replace the body panels with older ones (expensive.) I'm thinking of fabricating the pieces out of Styro and fiberglass. I bet there is a market for these pieces Is someone could make a mold from an older Midget. Jay Shaffer 24682... MORE
