Hi All I am finishing building a frogeye out of a 1970 midget (fibreglass front and rear) and replaced the rear springs (left all nuts and bolts loose until loaded) with nearly new (purchased on auto jumble 5 leaves 38mm wide 4.35mm thick). With everything bolted up the rear of the car is 225 mm off the floor (9 inches) what could be wrong? Best Regards Rob Batley "rob batley" 32278... MORE
I am in the middle of changing the front suspension on the 68. I am catching my breath, and allowing the spring pans and disc brake backers to dry from being coated with fresh paint. Thank you to Peter for the new shocks, I will have the cores on their way to you this week. Btw, I was missing the bolt on the right shock that keeps the trunion bolt from turning, I hope this isn't a big issue. Just Ed, the parts are great, everything is going on fine!!! Listers - I know there was a discussion of this a while back, but at the time I didn't pay much attention to it cause I didn't think I'd ever use it. Has anyone had experience with POR-15? I was at my local body shop supply place picking up some self-etching primer and they had a small display of it. Sounds too good to be true..... Dave, Having spoken to the camp organisers, it looks like I will have to stay until everything is packed away, probably mid afternoon, so it looks like I won't be able to make the gathering after all. One of the drawbacks of being a youth leader means that if even one of my group goes on camp, then I, as their leader, have to go too. I enjoy doing it, but it's a shame to miss an MG/Sprite gathering which is quite close to home. Next time, give me plenty of warning!! Camp is always May bank holiday weekend.... MORE

Rick I kept my old single bed and mattress for this job. With the tub fully stripped, it is light enough to man handle upside down. I laid out the bed frame and single mattress on the floor of the garage underneath the car and simply lifted the edge of the car and flipped it over onto the mattress and leant it against the wall. Duncan One of the jobs I hated most on the car (and there were plenty of them) was scraping all the underseal/bitumen off the inner footwells and fronts of the inner footwells. I'm not small (no comments needed on that one thanks Ed) at 6 foot and getting inside those footwells and scraping, scraping, scraping was very uncomfortable! Regarding carpet glue and fluff, I found Cellulose thinners worked really well. Apply it with a brush, leave for a few minutes and it just scrapes off, once you've got the majority off - go over it with an old rag... MORE

Nigel I had the same thing happen to my trip odometer. It broke off where the shaft was cross drilled just outside the main body of the odometer. If you have access to a metal working lathe it is a simple job to make a small shaft coupling and a new knob. I did it with mine and made the new knob a little larger so it is easier to grab. Rick The answers to these questions are as long as they are short! I can tell you what I did, but I'm not sure it will help you in your situation. I stripped all my interior paint back to bare metal using Nitromors paint stripper, washed it down with water, dried it, cleaned it all with a wire brush zip wheel in an angle grinder, sprayed it with etch primer, high build primer filler and finally top coat. I removed the carpet glue and (one of the worst jobs of the lot) the underseal/bitumen panels on the trans tunnel... MORE
Well, I finally succeeded in buying a Riley grill, but now I am back to the price of shipping to the US being a problem. Listers - Finishing getting the exterior of my Midget tub stripped and primed and about to move onto the interior and trunk areas. Whats the best way to go about it? The trunk is fairly dirty with light rust scattered around and there is a dirty sludge in the cracks and crevices, whats the best way to remove it and paint the interior? I doubt I'd be able to get all the rust and won't be able to strip everything to bare metal so I'll be leaving areas of the original paint. What should I paint the interior/floor with?... MORE

Yeah. Im going to have to find some other type of shoes to wear strictly for driving my Midget. My MR2 has come along way since those pics. 90% of the car has been painted now. All thats is left to paint is the aftermarket front and rear airdam and then reassembly. If you look at the third pic youll see that Iv put a driver side air vent. The first gen MR2s only had it on the right side. Iv also relocated the gas filler to the B pillar of both sides of the car and installed Datsun... MORE
Alan I can't comment on the Frogeye ones, but I can on the 72 ones (assuming there was no change from the 71 - 72 model year) as I've recently had them off my car. They were definitely NOT plated in any way. I know because I cleaned mine up with a wire zip wheel in my angle grinder. They are a natural finish, of some form of aluminimum or alum alloy casting. They're definitely NOT steel - take one off and pick it up - its very light - no way is it steel. And the 'yellow' finish... MORE
Whats up Roger I found that the steering wheel isnt the main problem. Its my frickin long legs and my propensity for wearing work boots. After removing the steering wheel I found that it made it easier to get out but I still hit my boots on the front edge of the door opening on the way out. Im hoping that the modification that Im making to the bulkhead just behind the seets will help even more. Blackish/Grey you say? Well ALLRIGHTY THEN, Jens...it's not oil!! :):) Oil is bluish in color and "stays" in the air. and....the exhaust definitely smells of burning oil (and not unburnt gasoline). Whitish/grey (or gray) is water which is a byproduct of combustion and along with condensation within the exhaust system is produced most abundantly when a "cold" motor (overnight sit, fr'instance) is initially fired up, most definitely on those cool, humid mornings when it tends to stay in the air rather than more immediately evaporate as it does in "drier" air. Black is definitely unburnt gasoline which we get... MORE
Tede The stuff you wnat is 3M Weatherstrip adhesive. Over here it comes in a red and white squeeze tube and is yellow in color. I think the paint is a fairly common color of gray.
