Chris Mine only has one horn - it was standard OE for one to be fitted, I think two was an option on your car. If you want to know if it's a high or low note you'll have to look at it physically - it should have an H or L stamped on the body. I'll take a look at mine when I can find it and let you know. They (being they, I mean people who have been down this path before) reckon that a ground up nut and bolt rebuild of any classic car will take around about 2,000 manhours of work. Anyone fitted a MGOC badge bar to chrome bumper midget with 70's style round spot lights. If so any problems? To avoid drilling any holes I propose to use another side/headlight switch in the panel light position to provide panel lights/ spot lights. Well Friday night I charged up the Midget battery and took it for the first spin of spring. The new Yokohamas are great and I live the wider chrome wire wheels! The tires stick out past the fenders (wings Nigel) about an inch or so, or just enough for that "hod rod" look I'm going for. Of course, I'd forgotten the fuel guage only goes a little below half a tank when it's empty, so I had an unexpected walk this morning, only about three blocks, but I've gotta boil out that tank I bought and see if the... Building on what Duncan said, the book by Horler will list the colors and have some good photos. One place you can see chips/buy paint from the Autocolor library (www.autocolorlibrary.com). Another practical source for me is "Restoring Sprites and Midgets - An enthusiasist guide" by Grahame Bristow. He doesn't list every nut and bolt, but he does show the break down of many systems. It can be a reliable daily car if you look after it.. I ran a 1959 frogeye from 1998 to 2001 as my only car, clocking up in the r egion of 40K in that time. The car was not a prime example when I started and its still not a prime example. It had been modified, (1275, ribcase box , Disk front brakes, later diff, 3.9:1, Fiberglass bonnet,). Ben, My 1500 has Peco exhaust, oil cooler but no magnetronic ignition or kenlowe fan, from Nov 2002 until Oct 2003 it was in daily use and i covered 15000 miles in that time as well as several large jouneys includng Le Mans and back which all told was 1000 miles in 4 days. (I'm in the UK) My car is far from perfect but regular and pre-emtive maintainance is the key to reliablility. Once you've ironed out all the faults that the previous owners failed to take care of (in my case my own brother!) its pretty easy... MORE
Thanks for the suggestions. As several of you have stated, the new foam may not "collapse" quite like the old stuff. I am going to speak with an interior shop to see what they would do. With respect to a smaller steering wheel, I doubt that would help. It is my knees hitting the underside of the dash that is the problem, not the steering wheel (although a smaller wheel would really help with ingress and egress!!!!). Paul, It was serious advice, and not really related to how big you may be. The new foam will fairly quickly compress aand settle. There is no real way of lowering the seat, except I guess you could work out a way of removing the runners and bolting the seats direct to the floor. Guy "Guy Weller" 30911... MORE

Hi, The PO of my car damaged the hood hinge arms and tried badly to repair them. I have now repaired them to a better state but they are both different sizes. If somebody has their arms removed from a MK4 could you please measure the distance from the hinge pin point to the fwd mounting bolt. Hi I have changed to a manual choke in my 1500 Midget I was curious to see where most of you have mounted your choke cable. In the dash is not an option, I wnat to keep it reversable. and I was hoping not to have to put a hole in any interior panels , but that may be the best place, on passenger side? Thanks Mike. I put one in my Bugeye, aftermarket, plastic with two screw mounts, on the passenger side of the heater box, above the panel, out of sight because of the dash. You have to know it is there to find it. There is a brown, always hot wire, that comes through the firewall and goes to the ignition switch. There is a "Lucas" conector right after it comes through the firewall. I changed that to a dual plug and plug the "non usable for heat" cig. lighter into that and grounded it through one of the mounting screws. Bob, Troutdale,... MORE
Hi Kevin You are right in that chrome is virtually impossible to paint. The paint just goes into small droplets like rain on a freshly polished car. (I think that we have all experienced that!) Stripping the chrome is simple and just requires a bath in hydrochloric acid....a job best left to a plating shop for obvious reasons. That will strip it back to the nickel plate which in turn can be given a light sanding with wet and dry to give you a surface ready to paint. I noticed in some old brochures that the gas cap on my car would have been painted Riviera Blue to match the body, but mine is a non- original lockable chrome cap. The only aftermarket reproduction gas caps I see for sale are chrome. Does anyone know where to find a reproduction cap that is non-chrome so that I can paint it? Bob, Guilty as charged. On my BE, all of the slots on the screws that hold the aluminum tub trim have to be dead on horizontal. In places where nobody can ever see, I might use an odd fastener that doesn't match the others... but it will bother me when I do. Places that can be seen - I've written down on my shopping list to get one more stainless 1/4-28 bolt so that they all will match. Cable tie tails on wire bundles have to point in the same direction - even though they're cut off anyways. Hose... MORE

Listers - My current project Midget (75) has no motor or trans, I'm searching for alternate powertrains to transplant into it, does anyone have photos, info or web sites they have run across on hot rodded Midgets they could pass along to me? Currently have a Ford 2.0 litre 4 cylinder with matching 4 speed, but looking at other options, plan on looking around for a 2.3L Ford 4 cyl with a five speed, which could be transplanted without too much hassle. Ford 2.3L turbo motor would be nice too, but don't want to spend a ton of cash,... MORE
Upon more progress on my 1500, I have discovered the keys have gone missing.. Last time I know I had them was just over 10 years ago now.. The door locks and the boot locks have been easily taken care of, as the number is stamped on them. The Ignition key lock is slightly different, although I do note there is a number stamped under the lock assembly, as opposed to cast into it, would this be a key number? or will I have to take the whole steering column assembly to a lock smith? if a real one... the plastic is usually stuck to the door itself - either over the whole door, or just over the openings. It is to protect the hardboard backing to the interior panel from any moisture that runs down inside the door. David "David Jacobs" 30779... MORE
Just picked up a pair of doors for my 1500, one is different to the other and the two I had on my car. This door is a passenger side door and appears to have a second panel init under the door skin, this panel runs the full length of the door but only from the top of the door to about 2/3rds down, it's spaced about 5mm inboard of the doorskin, this is not present on the two original doors of my car and not present on the drivers side door that I acquired with it, any one...
