Thanks for the information . . to all who have responded. Has the underlying frame changed? In other words I have a very rust free, dent free, complete front end of a 69 midget, can those fenders, front cowl, and hood be bolted on in place of the metal work that was modified for the rubber bumpers? Folks.... Part of what is pushing me to complete these projects is this group (besides the personal reasons). Hearing of all of you driving your cars and dealing with the little problems. Hell, any MG owner knows of the minor issues that goes on with them. I have yet to consider the interior and exterior. As my neighbor friend (a mechanic) says - "get it running perfectly, then worry about the interior and body". Do any of the members gather or put together meetings/rallys for others here? Hi guys, Whats the best way to re-finish painted wire wheels back to their former glory? I know most of you will say - grit/sand blast and epoxy coat them, but that's too easy and too expensive. When you consider that will pretty much cost 50 GBP per wheel, to be done properly, I can buy a brand new painted wire wheel for 80GBP, and probably sell the old wire wheels for 10GBP each, so for an extra 100GBP, I can have a set of brand new painted wire wheels - not very economic is it. There should be a little square box between the top and bottom hinges for the switch; it has two holes facing outwards (one for the switch body, one for the self tapping screw that holds it in place) The wiring passes through the box and then through the footwell side. If it's not there, it's possible that the A post has been replaced with the wrong one (not sure if you can actually get later ones with the box built in?) as these are notorious rust areas. Alan Would it matter how it was painted? As long as someone's willing to put in the work in prep, filling, stopping, flatting, cutting back they could still end up with a Concours paint job from rattle cans - it would be the hard way round mind. Sure, Mike... I already have the outside air intake hole fabricated and a 4" rubber tube for the mailbox I bought to be used as a "cold air box". I will "fashion" it once I have decided whether to stay with the double SU set-up or go with my 45 DCOE. Gotta do a little experimenting with various choke sizes on the Weber first, though. The box will breath engine compartment air in the winter months and cooler outside air (for better performance) in the warmer months. Hello there I am currently finishing of a restoration that someone else had started of a UK model 1978 1500 Midget. I was wondering if any one with a similar model had any photos of where the courtesy light switches are mounted on the door posts and also any info about the boot lamp and switch. Well folks... As of tonight, the B-GT (67) is nearly ready for the first road test. I need to get a tire tube replaced and check the differential fluid before I drop it onto the ground and try for a short drive. The new parts I needed to order were... Masking . . . what is masking? You like the way half the dash was over sprayed? Yes, if it were local I would jump to buy it at 500 no matter how much he PO did not understand the concept of masking. I have recently acquired a H.M.C.Co.Ltd hardtop(as in page 68 of the Terry Horler Bible)it needs a complete refurbishment,however this includes new rubbers to the side windows which seem to be one piece,together with the clips,front & rear. Ed. I haven't done a sear but I'm applying POR over good metal, not lace doylies, so hopefully my *rs will stay about 6" above the ground , and the the good metal has a been treated with phosphoric acid where needed (similar to jenolite) I will hunt out some seam sealer and apply over primer, thanx guys. Nelson... Frank used POR15 on his floors and they still rotted out beneath the coating. This resulted in an Italian burn....IOW, he was somewhat less than amused. Neither Diane, Tiffany or the cats could soothe him. His son, who was out destroying his VW at the time his Dad fell through the POR15 coated floor (at about 60 or so, traveling down the NJ turnpike) added fuel to he fire by failing to empathize while asking Frank for yet another coupla thousand bucks to rebuild his VW's blown engine, once again. Bob, A little while back I installed a pair of rear 5" speakers in the narrow space between the door pillar and the rear wheel arch. They fit really neatly and are only a few inches behind my head when driving. Out of town, there is no problem as I am not too bothered about the sheep listening to my choice of music. Has anyone tried setting up an output from a radio to provide a connection for an earpiece? Sort of like a m/c setup? Could I use the ordinary speaker output, wired into a jack plug socket, or would the output be too great for an ordinary earpiece? I fancy connecting to a socket which I could position in the inside face of the rear door post. Then I could use an ordinary in-the-ear unit with a jackplug. I know it wouldn't be stereo, unless I used 2, but in my case it still wouldn't be as I am almost... MORE
Alan, in the UK go to a motor factors and buy a tin of seam sealer. It can be trowled or brushed into seams after the first paint coats. It is compatable with paint finishes and although it hardens, it remains pliable enough not to crack. Don't use cellulose putty or fibreglass resin. They go hard, shrink, crack allow moisture in and generally don't do a good job. Petrol or parrafin is the best thing for removing the residue of any underseal, then finish off with a good engine degreasant. Guy UK, oop north "Guy Weller" 23798... MORE
Hi, I've just spent the afternoon sitting in the engine bay of the 72 midget scraping all the PO applied black underseal type paint . a.. I can't get it all off by grinding or scraping , it just goes gooey and spreads around and clogs the flap wheel. b.. Any ideas for removal ?, Petrol, flamethrower (Brad?), or just keep scraping and sanding? c.. When I did get some of it off, I found some hard cream coloured putty* had also been applied to some seams before the original spray coat.(Damask ). This did chip off however. d..... MORE

It should go exactly where YOU point it and NOT the other way 'round. It should never feel as though the "tail is wagging the dog". On rougher surfaces the car will "move" sideways in a controlled manner as it "skips" over rougher pavement but it should never "wonder" or feel "loose", despite the fact road shock may be transmitted to the steerng wheel. OK, let's try: Looks like a MKII or MKIII Midget according to the grille, bumpers and bonnet with chrome liner (non split rear bumper, thick bumpers, MG grille without the MG badge...). If you look at the seats....The early Midget MKII had a horse-shoe pattern seat, this changed later to the shown striped pattern. The missing chrome stripes at the sides and the Steering wheel horn butten might tell it's a Sprite. So my best guess: - 1966 MKII MG Midget, without side chrome stripes, and a non-original steering wheel It might even be an early Midget MKIII (1966/67).... MORE
Don It's extremely difficult to tell from those pictures the age or model, as by the looks of it, as you said, it has a mixture of parts from Sprites and Midgets on it, and you can't be sure what was original on that car. You have to make certain assumptions, and as this list has ably demonstrated in the past, assumptions are dangerous. It has a Sprite badge on the back, a Midget Grille on the front and Austin Healey Hub caps. If the boot handle is correct, this dates it to after October 1961 when it changed.... MORE
