Hi Folks, Recently my uncle passed away and I now am suddenly becoming more involved with the family farm, he was running it up until now. First thing is the barns need a massive cleanout. Neither my dad or my uncle ever threw anything away. Me either for that matter. I was there today working and I found a small stash of Spridget parts there I forgot I had. Let's see...it's been a week or so since Drew picked up Rick's '73 Midget in Vegas and drove it to the Seattle area. He took four days and his girl friend...she must have a great deal of faith in him to attempt such an adventure. I bought what claimed to be a sticker set for a midget, but its obviously for a 1275, as the chassis plate is wrong, it has MG cars written on it not Austin morris like my original and the negative earth warning sticker is wrong, the suplied sticker has 'warning negative earth' witted in black on a silver background, the original one Which I still have as it's still attached to the original nose cone that was repalced is at least twice the size, has red writing and a whole lead more writing on it. My first thought was that the dipstick would hit the bonnet/hood before it came out, but on closer consideration, it is probably not that long, so could come out, given enough force. Here in the UK, I use my mk3 Midget ALL YEAR ROUND without any problem. She has a good heater, I have a flying jacket and warm helmet and gloves, so I don't get cold in winter. I hardly ever put up the hood, unless it's raining before the start of my journey. When I had my mk1, I drove up to Edinburgh at the end of January, when there was a lot of the white stuff about. Even had a few laps around Knockhill circuit. And all this without a hood, as the mk1 didn't have one!! Margaret... MORE

I would like to relocate the windshield wiper motor on my 73 midget. It's on the left inner fender right now. I notice from pictures on Ed's web site that BE wiper motors are up next to the pedal box. Can I use a different cable and re-locate my motor? Anyone tried this? I pulled off the old slave cylinder and had it resleeved. When I took it off, it was very difficult to remove the upper bolt due to the small amount of room (no room for socket - only turn about one flat at a time) and the fact that the bolt was so long that there was less than 1/8 inch of room between the bolt and the frame when it was all the way unscrewed. I went out and bought a ratcheted box wrench, but I was wondering if anyone had any other tips. Maybe I could use... MORE

FWIW, if you still have yours (which I assume are broken and twisted) bend them back into shape, and weld a piece of strap steel across the open back side of the hinge. It boxes them in, never to distort again. Did this on th e 68 when it was in for paint, and they are still fine. Brad "" 36270... MORE

stewart you are correct to use 35 amp fuse.i am nearly sure the fuse in question protects indicators,fuel gauge and heater blower and operates when ignition switch is on.i had a similar problem on my 1977 1500 midget and found the problem was caused by worn wires on the indicator stalk shorting. to rectify,unscrew four screws that secure the cowls to the steering column remove lower cowl then move upper cowl in anti-clockwise direction round steering column,depress horn slip-ring contact and ease the cowl off the column.remove clip holding the switch wiring harness to the steering column and disconect... I always thought these were painted silver with black detail. I am going to get mine shot blasted then stove enameled. You can buy the masks to do the black detail but I have been told that they are difficult to position and paint tends to creep under the edges. Perhaps someone who has done it can advise. I was wondering if anyone could give me some information. I have a 1977 Midget. It has the rostyle wheels. I think I would like to refurbish these back to their original appearance. I know the trim rings and small hubcap were chrome. But, were the wheels simply black and silver-grey paint? I have showed pictures I found on the internet to my friend who does auto body painting. The scariest bit of all with my restoration of my 1500 Midget is coming up.. just ordered the hood, with that fited it's finshed. It will have gone from being an abandoned restoration to a finished car in about a year. I will admit I was the one who abandoned it! I started in 1988. the '75 on cars have extra 'chassis' rails running from the wheelarches back to the rear panel, compared with your 74. Apart from this, they are pretty much the same. I'm not sure what the carpet you have in mind looks like, but it looks like you'll might end up modifying something anyway, so it might be cheaper and no more difficult to get straightforward automotive carpet off the roll and make your own.
