Going through old papers the other day and I ran into a letter from a chap in England that was going to do Sebring Sprite replica panels in fiberglass taken off of molds of an original car. Now this was back in 1989 but I am curious if anything still exsists of this project. The future 200 watts is correct El Capitan. I just had an error in stating that my current setup puts out 20 amps when it should have said 20 watts. As for the future 200 WATTS IT IS but probably in the '69 CGT as to provide a bit more security (locking doors and an alarm system). I like the visual of the Memorex commercial :) It is the set-up I had in 1992 Civic Si prior to having a stupid driver try and shoot through an intersection at the same time as me in 1995. Colin Well, I think the concensus is that their 'original' finish was indeed 'natural' but rebuilt ones were painted black all over. I was in two minds whether to leave them natural and spray a clear coat over them or to paint them silver. My main concern was to finish them in such a way as to protect them from the elements, so the paint won. I never set out to build a 'concours' car, that was never my intention - the car will be used and used regularly and enjoyed for what it is - so slavishly following... MORE
On the 1500 there is an extra piece on the front of the inner wheelarches, that is not there on earlier cars, however it is welded onto the front original 1275 panel rather than done properly and a new panel!, this is then welded to the rear part of the front panel just outboard of the RB mountings. I think I will just bolt it on.. the engine has to go near vertical to get it out because of the normally non removable front panel! and as I still want to fit an overdrive box (if I ever find... Guy Yep, it's straight from the gun. I have one of those rotary orbital sander thingies with a lambswool bonnet for the polishing and some rubbing compound and some t cut I'll be using on it when its hardened, so I won't need to ask the Cap'n to borrow his cat for the polishing ;) Nigel "amukdigiphoto" 29259... Guy Hey! Thats MY cheapo trolley jack! My dad got me that for Christmas one year I think, and it's been so useful. Which alloy castings? The steering rack ones? LOL Nigel, Yes paint looks good. Good finish if that is "straight from the gun" - you've learnt quickly. I was quite pleased with mine at that stage - anything would look better than the earlier states it was in. After the paint had hardened, about a month later I went over the whole thing with an electric polisher - made quite a difference. If you don't have an electric polisher there are reputed to be things that you can do to a cat which will render a similar effect. Guy "Guy Weller" 29257... MORE

Maplins have a web site (maplin.co.uk) and do mail order from it. The wire is quite thick for the panel lights and shoulds easily take the extra load. When I get to Maplin I will buy a holder and a halogen bulb, and try to modify the existing holder. In the past I have smashed up a bulb and mounted the new holder in the screw bit of the old bulb. Now the old bit screws into the original holder and the new bulb goes into the new holder. Got two problems, not a lot of light and bad... MORE
Brad ooooh you're my age, and there was me thinking you were an old fogey like the Cap'n! ;) I'm not with you on the slotted holes for the door panels. What slotted holes? Are you referring to the cut-out section for the internal door latch/lock? Or are you referring to the heat stamped pattern on the vinyl trim itself? I'm not planning on 'replicating' the vinyl trim for the door panel, only the hardboard panel itself, I'll re-use the old vinyl door panels which aren't in bad condition apart from one tiny tear on one of them. During my restoration of my shell, I had to take this off to repair it, but on the 1500 there are 4 spot-weld holding it onto the inner wheelarch, the rest is bolted onto the radiator mountings and the front chassis members just like any other midget in that respect. Given these spot-weld are already undone is there anything to be gained by welding them back on or can I just drill 4 holes and put bolts in their place? and will this make putting in and taking the engine out any easier? Cap'n It's coming on! I've been seriously hampered by the weather here lately, which hasn't been very conducive to spraying! We had snow here a week or so ago, since then its been milder but with that comes rain and wind; very windy here again today. But I've pushed on doing what I can, and the bodyshell with front panel assembly and both wings in position is now about 90% finished in gloss. Nigel... Yes, this is the season for inclement weather ok. No doubt about it. Over here, the coldest January we've had in the Northeast US in 30+ years, with a goodly amount of snow as well. I am not familiar with the speedo in your vintage LBC but I had a problem with the odometer reset rod in my 62 Sprite. At about a half inch from the body of the speedo there had been a small screw hole through the rod. This was for a small screw that held a shaft extension. Mine broke at that hole leaving what looks like it might be a screwdriver slot. The rest of the rod was not able to be attached. The far end of it had a small knob that is used to reset the odometer.... MORE
Terry... I agree with Nigel asking you why all this for bulb replacement but I will answer to the extent I can 'cause obviously it's already out of the car!! :):) OK... 1. Yes (O-ring, gasket, rubber washer, bit of silicone, whatever! :) 2. Have not seen an O-ring between instrument and panel before. But I don't see why you could not do this, either. 3. Hello troupe,..I'm looking for a set of Cornercraft Ace Mercury wheel disks (read hubcaps) for my 62 Midget. They were an option on the MG B and the Midget in the early sixties...anybody have any leads?..i'm also looking for a hardtop as well. Tomorrow i'm off to dear Don Mays house to bolt the rebuilt head on and visit his very cute Spridet coversion. if all goes well i'll be driving him home that eve (may car,..not Don.). wish us luck. -Many thanks rob and cp bob,have spent most of the day looking at this wheel prob,my sprite has square arches that dont help me in this wheel problem,look like l am going to have fit 5" rims along with 155x70 tyres,165x70 wil fit but theres still a chance of rubbing when used hard or loaded up etc,so not wanting to mess around with the new body work now that its painted, l will stick to 155x70 x13,on nice wheels.The next restro car l get, l will realy mod and then have some rubber, again many many thanks for your...
