Hi, I am new, and I am a spridget-holic. Now that that is out of the way.... I am rebuilding the 1275 out of my 73 RWA and I want to upgrade the transmission to a 5 speed. I hear of a Toyota (2T) from perhaps the Celica(? - but what year?). I have been referred to a company in Australia, Dellow Automotive [ www.dellowauto.com.au ], that sells conversion kits for what they call the 2T or 3T transmission but it is too pricy to ship to me. See, I am in the US. Toyota gurus here don't know... MORE
Ben I've never seen one like that before - it's certainly not like the early original UK Spec one which looks a bit like the later 1500 one - but has a more 'pointed' front to it. Strange! Nigel "amukdigiphoto" 31564... MORE
Hi As a sideline to the techy questions and to satisfy my curiosity...... I was just wondering what stories there are about how you guys came to be so into Midgets. They don't really seem like the first choice of car for the wide open roads out there. (or have I seen too many movies!?) I know that America was the main market for MG's since the TC and that they have a huge following over there, but why a Midget as opposed to say a Mustang or a Camaro? I'd love to own a Mustang, but trouble is... MORE

Guy has it right I bet. You need to lever the rear spring shackles back so that they're at least vertical - preferably pointing back a little. Then load HEAVY concrete slabs in the boot (trunk) and leave for as long as possible for the springs to settle down a little. Hope this helps. Yeah. It probably will handle good that way...:) I live in an area that has steep drive ways and I like my cars "looowww". The two things never mix so that's why Im going air ride. I haven't ran my Midget yet with the air ride suspension. Iv only had the car for about 8 months and 4 of those months its been in my shop being "tricked out". I do have air ride in the front of my 85 supercharged Toyota MR2 and Tokico 10 way adjustable shocks on all 4 corners and the car rides surprisingly very... MORE
Hi Biff, Yes it is, but when I recently explored prices from UK to USA, the Fedex and UPS shipping costs were waaaay more expensive than the UK Royal Mail / Parcel Force. It seems that the prices vary according to which service and which direction you are sending stuff. Guy "Guy Weller" 31333... MORE
Rob, I would, but you do realise that shipping from the UK is going to be expensive don't you? Have you checked the prices - it could add a lot to your purchase price. Guy "Guy Weller" 31318... MORE
Is it possible for UK sellers to ship via FEDX, UPS, etc. rather than using the Royal Post? I've often wondered this, as I shipped something via UPS to the UK for half what it cost to ship a similar item to the USA. James, A couple of points about the fact that lead was not introduced untl mid-30's (and then ommitted again during the war years. The lead does 2 things; 1. It "lubricates" the valve stems. This only became necessary as finer tollerances were introduced and engines ran at higher revs. Not critical for many of the earlier side-valve engines. 2. It reduces pre-ignition. Again much less of a problem on early low-compression engines. I have run an old 750 side valve engine on a mix of petrol and paraffin (kerosene) It was common practice during war year rationing in the... MORE
I want to bid on he the above part, a Riley grill, but the seller says he will only ship to the UK. Would any of our UK listers be willing to accept this part for me and forward it to the US? I've emailed the seller to ask him to reconsider, but he has not answered. I forgot to add in my previous reply that you can still get leaded petrol from a number of Bayford/Thrust locations.... http://www.leadedpetrol.co.uk/index.html David "David Jacobs" 31293... MORE
you're right about the possibilities for confusion creeping in with translation - here in the UK the standard grade of unleaded is called 'Premium' and is 95 RON, the higher grade is usually known as 'Super' and is either 97 or 98 RON. LRP (Lead Replacement Petrol) is about 97 RON but there is no national standard, so it could be anything. Regards David "David Jacobs" 31292... MORE
hi all, My car has been off the road for awhile, just waiting to get insurance now! i always used to run it on LRP as it was not converted. Recently i have heard things about LRp being awful as quality is low. and that most of the additives are crap including valvemaster that i have used in the past. and one place said that converting is not a good idea as you are adding in a metal with diffrent properties (plus i haven't got the money for that) I keep hearing that LRP is gonna be gone from... Bill, the normally transverse fwd engine is fairly do-able - the K series transplants popular in the UK are mostly from fwd applications - it's the rwd gearbox to match up with it that is then the tricky part; or more precisely, how you adapt the gearbox to the engine. If it's not a popular conversion, it might need some advanced engineering skills to make the adaptor bits. Not quite sure what you mean by the front portion of a fwd drive assembly, but I assume you mean the complete engine/gearbox/final drive/driveshafts? if so, that'd be quite a bit... MORE
