This is my first posting here and it is just a quick note to introduce myself. I have at last bowed to constant pressure from the FPO to get rid of the Panther motorcycle combination (as so many men did in the early 60's when the BL Mini arrived) and get a 'sporty' car that she too can enjoy. We live near Bournemouth (south coast UK) and I am about to get my hands on my first Midget in 40 years of driving. It is a 1979 model in brown with new hood, starter, timing chain, exhaust and MoT.... MORE

Actually, I need to stop trying to bring home every little stray british car or motorcycle, or otherwise that is probably destined for the scrap heap. Mental note: Spend a few extra dollars in the beginning on the purchase price saves MANY dollars and man hours in the long run... "TJ Tryon" 36823... MORE

Same here with my mk3 midget. When leaded fuel was around I got 200 to the tank full. Then it started dropping. I think it's something to do with mode rn day fuel!! "They don't make it like they used to". Also, when I firat got the car nearly 20 years ago, it cost me =A35 to fill up from empty, now it's over =A325. It's a sign of the times!! Ahhhh, Spring is here and an old man's fancy turns to funny little British cars going round and round, real fast.(well, sorta real fast) Ever since I sold my Sprite (broke transmission, broke bank account) I have missed the little bugger, er...uh...little bloke? Does anyone know if speed channel will be carrying the Production G and Production H Races? Needa spridget fix. cheers, bill b. "w_burrell" 36808... MORE

Much better to have the head converted to unleaded. Here in the UK I ran with an additive for a while, can't remember which brand, but later had the conversion done. The olny difference I noticed was that the engine ran a few degrees hotter, which I have ben advised is normal, as unleaded runs hotter than leaded. Hope this helps Margaret South Lincolnshire (UK) "May you be in Heaven half an hour before the Devil knows you're dead" mmbrock88@... 36784... MORE

Yeah. I'm too old for either type too...but I can still remember. I had the hots for an E-Type for many, many years, but never could quite afford one. When they were $5K, I had $3, when they were $8, I had $5, then 20/10, etc...Finally bought an Elan +2, sorta a mini E-Type coupe. That cured me. I don't mind fixing broken British cars, but when they break three times before you can get backed out of the garage. "joe blxfstz" 36778... MORE

Dear Listers, Since folks seemed to have so much fun with carb adjusting let me try and keep the ball rolling. What would be anyone's best guess on a timing setting for a 1500 engine with dual 1.25 carbs, 2 inch exhaust and the lower U.S. compression? My Haynes gives anything from 10dgs BTDC (UK spec) to 2 dgs.ATDC in stock US single carb tune. I'm just not happy with the way the motor runs in all ranges and am trying to set a baseline timing. Any input is appreciated. Rob C Webfoot Leisure.com Your Local Pool Store-On the... MORE

Or at least the MOT tester thinks it is, Took it for it's MOT this morning and it passed. It still has a high idle to sort out (the throttle spindles are a little stiff it would seem) Nad the clutch master cylindre would apear to need new seals still. For those that don't know the MOT is the yearly road worthyness test here in the UK the car can't be driven on public roads with out a currnet MOT certificate, unless you are driving to a pre-arranged MOT inspection. Stewart PS this is the first MOT it has... MORE

Did it take much to get through? I had a Honda N600 some years ago (the one that looks like a mini, and has a mototbike engine), and all it needed after 18 years was a good service and new tyres!! mainly because the MGF/TF is not officially available in the largest sportscar market ie the US - the F outsells the Miata (or MX5) in the UK. "David Jacobs" 36696... MORE

I don't quite agree with you on that. The British car club I belong to (www.sbmoc.com) is very active, and we have enthusiastic members ranging in age from nearly 90 down to several teenagers. The youngsters are fascinated by cars which they can actually understand and work on themselves, and they think they're way cooler than new Japanese stuff. I don't think our hobby is dying - it's just getting passed on to the next generations. "joe blxfstz" 36677... MORE

Hello, Couple of questions I have hopefully some one can solve them for me. My Car is Uk 1500cc 1976 Midget First my car does not indicate tothe right when the steering wheel is dead straight. The lights does not come up and the dash board and the clicking noise is far more rapid than it should be. However when I turn the steering wheel a small amount in either direction it works fine. ( And i get strange looks when I have to sway across the road so my car will indicate) The left hand indicator works fine.... MORE

David I did measure it and it was not that easy to be exact but it was going to be tight or not go. Will try for a conventional oil cooler. Does it go in place of the pipe from the block (banjo fitting) to the top of the oil filter screw on bit? Mind you I do like the idea of a remote oil filter, perhaps I could put it where I can easily get to it.where can I get details, looked on MGOC but did not see it. terry Terry Isherwood Essex UK "Terry Isherwood" 36634... You won't be able to remove old ones without destroying them! Sticker sets are available for all years of Midget - sounds like you ordered / were sent the wrong one. Can you not simply change it for the correct set? Where did you get it from? Moss / MGOC and all the usual suppliers in UK should be able to help out. Steve "Steve and Sue Clark" 36397... MORE
